Huffington Post Parody

Pretty funny... but they lose marks for not quite as boring as the real thing.

Hat tip to the Fat Kid by way of Hog on Ice.

Yes, I'm a Reality TV Whore
— Ace

Not sure if The Wardrobe Door is, but he did go to school with Kelly from the Amazing Race (the beauty queen who made an unfair comment about her boyfriend getting out of his military obligations by getting captured by the enemy).

He told me my impressions of her were unfair. He's got a highlights from his interview with her here, and the full interview here.

On the POW remark:

And as to the POW comment, we have been asked about that so much. It really just came out wrong. Honestly, Ron and I neither one remembered the comment until we saw it on TV. Some have even misinterpreted the comment as a disrespect for the military. That is the furthest thing from the truth. I have the ultimate respect for the military, for veterans and especially for POWs. I have lots of family in the Army and the Air Force. My brother is graduating from West Point. Ron knows that I respect him for what he did. That was just one bit of the conversation. I was actually trying to lighten the moment. His mom actually jokes with him about getting out of the military as well. It was also funny to see the titles they picked for us. Everyone else was dating couple, engaged couple, married couple. We were Former POW/Beauty Queen.

Mr. Paul Anka... Dragged Into Hillary! Fund-Raiser Scandal
— Ace

Hillary! is apparently safe:

The New York Times coverage from today is a bit more sympathetic, but it appears that the worst consequences for Hillary are likely to be avoided – the prosecutor, Peter R. Zeidenberg, said “that the fund-raiser, David F. Rosen, tried to keep Mrs. Clinton’s campaign from discovering how much money was donated to cover the costs of the star-studded event at the heart of this criminal case.” The prosecutor told the jury, “You will hear no evidence that Hillary Clinton was involved in any way, shape or form.”

But... our hero is tainted by the scandal:

Finally, the details of the fundraiser that Rosen organized — $5,000 for Patti LaBelle's hairdresser, $10,000 for Paul Anka CD's that were to go in gift bags, Cher’s request of a particular model private plane — reveal the ostentatious and lavish atmosphere of Democratic campaign fundraising in Hollywood. It’s not a scandal in and of itself – well, it’s nothing new, at least – but it’s not the side of the Democratic Party that Hillary or any other lawmaker in the party wants to spotlight.

At least Hillary! knows who slices like an f'n' hammer.

Pat Buchanan Again Calls the American Entry Into WWII Unnecessary
— Ace

Happy VE day, huh?

He does seem like a nice guy. Too bad he's, well, an anti-semite.

I'm not really sure how Buchanan supports the American struggle against the Communists during the Cold War and yet can't manage to endorse the fight against the Nazis. Perhaps he'd say that the Cold War struggle involved far fewer troops actually engaged in fighting (although, over the 40 years of the Cold War, quite a few American boys were dispatched around the globe to fight Communism, often indirectly and often in places that were just not as important to us as Europe).

And of course Cold War confrontations risked a much higher bodycount than all of our losses in WWII.

As William F. Buckley concluded in a long essay on Pat way back in the late eighties (I think), Buchanan takes a number of positions, each of which seems defensible on its face, and yet, taking them all together, the cumulative impression is that he just hates Jews.

My words, not WFB's. But that seemed to be WFB's basic gist.

Let's Be Honest: I Don't Need Much Provocation to Re-Post
— Ace

Two questions I'll generally say "Yes" to:

1) "Would you like another merlot and/or Miller light?"

2) "Would you be so kind as to repost one of your brilliant comedy bits?"

Well, Pat from The Right Wing Conspiracy asked on Karol's site for a repost of my Schwarzenegger "Let's be honest" post.

Shhh, Pat. You had me at "hello."

I'm Outraged By Whatever The Hell It Is I'm Talking About
— Ace

Evil will always triumph, because Good... is dumb. -- Dark Helmet from Spaceballs, in my new favorite quote, courtesy of Dave from Garfield Ridge.

From NRO's the Corner:

Sarah Loomis, 32, of Great Neck, N.Y., agreed. "I think it's good for the church to have rules against killing and things like that," she said. "But I was really hoping the new pope would loosen up on things like abortion and homosexuality. This is the 20th century, after all. Or 21st. Whatever."

Let's be honest: they're (largely) morons.

Thanks to NickS.

Let's Be Honest, I'm a Moron Update: Dumb, dumb, dumb Ace. I linked the quote without checking the source. It's a parody.

Thanks to VonKreedon, for watching us watchers of the watchmen.

Can someone fucking watch him and get him off my tits for five minutes?

Heavy Metal Thunder
— Ace

Armor Geddon has video/pics of his tour in Iraq up, set to music by Alice in Chains. Look for "Unstoppable" at his video-hosting link.

Not my favorite AiC song, but still damn good. Good footage, good to see the faces of the men defending us. And the part in the song where the lyrics mention "household pets" is pretty damn funny.

Thanks to VonKreedon.

REVEALED!: King Tut Wrote "I'll Tumble 4 Ya," "Karma Chameleon"
— Ace

Take down this stupid picture, Drudge. No one gives a rat's ass what King Tut looked like. We especially don't care to look at this creepy dude three days running.

Say, Drudge, don't you have a hot story to run on someone being fired at Disney?

"If they fail in Iraq, Osama and his whole crew are finished"
— Ace

One of the climactic moments in The Dark Knight Returns -- Frank (Sin City) Miller's brilliant graphic novel about an aged Batman coming back out of retirment -- was his triumph over a particularly loathsome and large "mutant" gang member.

The gang leader was quicker, more nimble, and more innately vicious than the old crimefighter, and beat the hell out of Batman at their first encounter. Realizing he can't beat the quick and vicious thug on the thug's own terms, Batman baits him into fighting in a sludge-pit at a quarry. The gang leader soon finds himself to be as slowed by the sludge as Batman is slowed by advanced age, no longer having any sort of advantage over the much-older man.

And then Batman starts using all the dirty little in-fighting tricks he's learned over a long career of kicking ass and taking names. As he starts to break his young opponent's bones and tear his tendons, he explains, "This only looks like a mud-pit. It's an operating table. And I'm the surgeon."

Iraq is beginning to look like an operating table, too:

The war in Iraq is increasingly looking more like a showdown with Osama bin Laden's al Qaeda followers than a battle primarily against Saddam Hussein loyalists.

The shift is making the fight a focal point of the U.S. global war against Islamic terrorists and one that might dictate whether the U.S. wins or loses, said a senior official and an outside expert.

"If they fail in Iraq, Osama and his whole crew are finished," said retired Air Force Lt. Gen. Tom McInerney, a military author and analyst.

The changing dynamic was highlighted this week when the U.S. military launched a major offensive in western Iraq, primarily against foreign jihadists who crossed the border with Syria to join the al Qaeda network in Iraq led by Abu Musab Zarqawi. In a troubling sign, U.S. officers said Zarqawi's terrorists seemed well-trained and well-equipped.

The U.S. offensive, code named Operation Matador, entered its third day yesterday in the dusty border towns west of Baghdad near Syria. The command said three Marines and more than 100 enemy fighters have been killed.

"In the Muslim world and extremist world, this fight for Iraq is their key battle," said Gen. McInerney. "If they lose it, they lose the war. And so the imams are inciting young people, not particular well-educated, to head to Iraq. Most are going through Syria via Damascus.

"This is why Iraq is such a fundamental part of the global war on terrorism. When we finally defeat Muslim extremists, it will be the battle in Iraq that defeats them."

Five years from now the debate will be whether Bush and his "neocon madmen" actually planned this flypaper/mudpit strategy or if they merely blundered into it. It seems immaterial either way-- the basic strategy of the Bush Administration was to actively fight these bastards, rather than waiting for Americans to be butchered. Luck, as they say, is the result of good planning. Or good instincts.

And an epilogue to the Batman story: The "mutant" gang, made up of vicious nihilists who had simply chosen violence and mayhem as a means of filling their hopeless lives with meaning, disbands after their leader is humiliated in the mud-pit.

And, in fact, many of them, still looking for a "strong horse" leader, side with the new strong horse in town, Batman himself, joining his new "gang" of Guardian Angels-like protectors of the city.

Nihilistic Mutant Thugs Update: Terrorists kill 50 more civilians in bombings.

Do any of these maniacs believe they can actually win anything by these inhumane and counterproductive tactics?

I don't think they give it much thought. They are killing just out of rage, not to achieve any political purpose.

Perhaps the media is right to shun calling them "terrorists." Yasser Arafat was a terrorist. At least there was a rational (although evil) scheme to his murderings.

These aren't insurgents. And they aren't even terrorists. They're not even organized criminals, who at least kill for money, and only when necessary.

They're simply homicidal maniacs who've decided to join a club.

Toro, Toro, Toro!: Operation Matador Kills 100 Terrorists
— Ace

Raiding a terrorist stronghold used to transport men and material across the Syrian border to the US, Marines have blocked the most likely avenues of escapde and forced the cowards into a stand-up fight.

It's the biggest offensive since last year's Siege of Fallujah, and hopefully this time the bastards won't be permitted to flee:

The offensive by more than 1,000 Marines, sailors and soldiers included helicopter gunships, fighter jets, tanks and light armored vehicles. U.S. officials described the area as a known smuggling route and a haven for foreign fighters involved in Iraq's insurgency.

The New York Times reported Tuesday that Air Force F-15E Strike Eagle fighters dropped two 500-pound laser-guided bombs and fired 510 20-millimeter cannon rounds Sunday against insurgents around Qaim and that Marine F/A-18 fighters fired 319 20-millimeter cannon rounds.

The paper quoted U.S. Col. Bob Chase, chief of operations for the Second Marine Division, as saying: "The enemy honestly felt that they had a sense of security up there. It had been a safe haven, and a lot of folks up there were former Baathists," referring to Saddam Hussein's former ruling party.

"Now it is no longer a safe haven, and it will never be a safe haven again," said Chase. He was quoted as saying insurgents have had a network of illegal "rat lines" of men and materials moving from Syria into Iraq that had to be stopped, and said the offensive would continue for several days.

The Los Angeles Times reporter embedded with the offensive said the insurgents appeared well-prepared, having sandbag bunkers piled in front of some homes and that fighters were strategically positioned on rooftops and balconies.

Bill Roggio has lots of links.

And Arthur Chrenkoff says the "dam has broken" -- the appointment of a Sunni to the position of Defense Minister has caused thousands of Sunnis to enlist in the army and thereby join the new Iraq.

The media keeps rooting for an "insurgent" Tet, but they may have to content themselves with a terrorist Dien Bien Phu.
