— Ace Not only does a fast verdict usually indicate a guilty verdict, but especially in this case:
If you had several choices, one of which which might put you and your family in physical danger, and one would just result in a guy you don't know going to prison, which would be the easier option to choose?
And hence: the faster option?
Especially in this case, hesitation about the verdict would indicate a not guilty finding.
Mad Max got her way.
As did the judge who absolutely refused very reasonable requests to change the venue of the trial and to sequester the jurors from news -- and threats.

— Ace I'm sure you're just all stunned by this revelation, so I'll give everyone a few minutes to compose themselves.
Nice weather out where I am. How about for you? Pretty mild winter we had this year, thankfully. (Would have been nice to enjoy it instead of being locked down, though.)
So... has everyone recovered sufficiently from the shock of hearing that the Witch Queen enjoyed her Tyrant's Privilege while enforcing a sever lockdown on her subjects?
Good, here's an excerpt from the Federalist.
Her spokesman confirmed Monday that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer flew to Florida more than four weeks ago. The formal announcement raises glaring questions over why Whitmer has been criticizing Florida’s handling of the pandemic and urging Michiganders to not leave the state she has kept in one of the tightest lockdowns in the nation.
"In the past six months, she has left the state three times, once for the inauguration, once to assist her elderly father who is battling a chronic illness, and once to visit with Michigan’s National Guard troops,†said Bobby Leddy, Whitmer’s press secretary. "All trips were very brief, two full days or less, closely followed public health guidelines, and were made when Michigan’s daily positivity rate was in the low single digits.â€
Breitbart Newsreportedlast week that a top Whitmer aide traveled to Florida for spring break and posted several pictures. Tricia L. Foster, appointed by Whitmer as the Michigan chief operations officer, documented her trip comprehensively on Facebook.
The new information further contradicts Whitmer’s continued efforts to lock down her state. Whitmer’s press secretary called the Breitbart report "a partisan attack from a garbage white nationalist website†in anemailto Newsweek. Leddy did not clarify to Newsweek whether Foster was vaccinated prior to her trip.

Good morning kids. Tuesday and of course the big story is the impending verdict in the trial of Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin over his involvement in the death of a black suspect - whose name will not be mentioned by me - who expired while resisting arrest. Despite the initial shock of the knee-on-the-neck video, the facts surrounding the case released only in dribs and drabs as Minneapolis and dozens of other urban areas across the land were torched and sacked in a wave of rioting and violence that was alternately described as justified or completely ignored and covered-up as such, would tend to exonerate Officer Chauvin, and never get to the point of his being charged with manslaughter.
But that is not what's going on here. The issues and legitimate controversies and criticisms of policing while crucially important are not central to the crux of the biscuit in this discussion. This trial is about several things. First, Officer Chauvin (and now the 26-year female veteran cop in last week's accidental yet wholly understandable shooting incident) are scapegoats. America as founded is in the dock. Forget about the verdict in the trial; Chauvin had to be put on trial since regardless of the actual circumstances of the incident, he committed the heinous "crime" killing a black man while being a white male cop. If you think that that's ridiculous, and it is, get a load of this alarming statistic:
Those listed "Conservative†or "Very Conservative†guessed closest to the actual number.
The problem here is, these are not "wild conspiracy theories." These are memes and propaganda being drilled into the minds of children by day in schools (or Zoom classes), reinforced by the media on the nightly news and now standard business practice across a wide swathe of corporate America and consumer brands. Lest we forget what they did to Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the aftermath of "hands up don't shoot" Mike Brown. If Josef Goebbels were alive to see this, he'd pop a stiffie so hard he could run the Boston Marathon with it despite the club foot.
Second, Chauvin's trial serves the purpose of abolishing police departments without having to go through any lengthy, messy legislative processes. I mean, you would have to be out of your mind to want to be police officer given not only the inherent danger of the job but the prospect of facing a public execution for just doing your job should you find yourself in a confrontation with a Horst Wessel of color. Lastly, and probably the most insidious aspect of this is to get the minds right of those who remain on the job. In the event of actual legitimate protests occur against, say, lockdowns or stolen elections and the BLaM-tifa black-clad brownshirts be called in for a bit of bovver, you'll look the other way as more Ashli Babbitts get piled up like so much cordwood rather than intercede and risk your pension. Or you'll go door to door to find curfew violators or vaccination refuseniks. Besides, you have to show that you reject your inherent white supremacy, right? After all, you're just following orders. Oh yes, police forces may be "abolished" but there will be policing.
In second guessing this whole horrendous thing, it would actually be to the advantage of the enemy if Derek Chauvin were acquitted. Wouldn't a conviction disprove the meme that the justice system is rigged against colored people of color? Barack Obama was elected (in theory) twice in the hopes that it would close the civil rights era of "struggle" once and for all. I distinctly remember sitting at a dinner with an old liberal friend a month or so before the 2008 election who told me flat out that he was voting for Obama for no other reason than his being black and a black man should be president. How'd that work out for us?

Top Story
- After being gone for nearly two weeks, our main server was back on line for only two days before another storm caused another power outage and took it down again.
They've evidently got backup power working again for part of the datacenter, because the servers we have there for my day job didn't even hiccup, but our server was down for about five hours.
And the switch it was attached to was down for about eight, so I couldn't reach it even after it came back on line. When I was finally able to connect it had already been up for hours.
Long story short, we're getting a second main server, in Dallas, close to this one. Specs are:
- Intel W-1290P - 10 cores, 5.3GHz
- 64GB RAM
- 1TB + 2TB NVMe drives (it was a special deal, and adding a 2TB drive cost the same as upgrading the main drive to 2TB)
On the other hand, it's a lot faster than this server. Thanks to the recycling of part numbers, we're upgrading from a Xeon 1240 to a Xeon 1290 and getting 4x the performance.
I could have got two six core, 32GB servers for the same price as one ten core, 64GB server. But what I've learned this week is that it doesn't help having lots of small servers if all the work is landing on just one of them.
