28 Laocoon was a Trojan priest who warned the Trojans not to bring that big wood worse into the city.
This angered the gods on the Hellene side and one of them blinded him while another sent 2 big sneks to devour him wnd his sons.

El Greco was inspired by the old Byzantine aesthetic but added a Renaissance/Mannerist twist. Byzantine art was profoundly spiritual and ethereal. It was meant to lift the viewer's mind and soul to a higher plane of consciousness and worship. Renaissance art was more humanist.

Years ago, he was working for a large dealership, and the freshly-minted MBA Office Boy who got put in charge of his branch decreed that henceforth all the mechanics would wear white coveralls, so they'd "look professional".  That lasted about a week.

Never been on a ship but spent many year offshore fishing in 30 to 40 ft twin diesel rigs.  Everything in the engine room is covered in a fine layer of soot.  BTW, the fabulosa cheap cleaner will cuts diesel soot off fiberglass even with salt water.

218 From what I remember, Laocoon and his sons were warning the Trojans not to take the Horse into the city, and one of the gods who was rooting for the Greek side -- Poseidon? -- sent the snakes to kill the man and his sons.  You'd think the Trojans would have taken that as a warning:  "Somebody wanted to shut Laocoon up!  He was on to something!  We'd better not take this Horse thing inside!"

But nooo, they interpreted it as "The gods are upset that Laocoon wanted to prevent us accepting the Horse.  We'd better take it in, or the gods will be furious with us!"

Liberal illogic, even then.
