The Morning Report - 4/20/21 [J.J. Sefton]

Good morning kids. Tuesday and of course the big story is the impending verdict in the trial of Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin over his involvement in the death of a black suspect - whose name will not be mentioned by me - who expired while resisting arrest. Despite the initial shock of the knee-on-the-neck video, the facts surrounding the case released only in dribs and drabs as Minneapolis and dozens of other urban areas across the land were torched and sacked in a wave of rioting and violence that was alternately described as justified or completely ignored and covered-up as such, would tend to exonerate Officer Chauvin, and never get to the point of his being charged with manslaughter.

But that is not what's going on here. The issues and legitimate controversies and criticisms of policing while crucially important are not central to the crux of the biscuit in this discussion. This trial is about several things. First, Officer Chauvin (and now the 26-year female veteran cop in last week's accidental yet wholly understandable shooting incident) are scapegoats. America as founded is in the dock. Forget about the verdict in the trial; Chauvin had to be put on trial since regardless of the actual circumstances of the incident, he committed the heinous "crime" killing a black man while being a white male cop. If you think that that's ridiculous, and it is, get a load of this alarming statistic:

A nationally commissioned survey asked respondents for an estimation of how many unarmed black men were killed by the police in 2019. Forty-four percent of liberals said it was 1000 or more. In reality, the number was actually no more than 27.

The survey, commissioned by Skeptic Mag, asked respondents: "If you had to guess, how many unarmed Black men were killed by police in 2019?â€ Among those identified as "Very Liberal,â€ a majority (about 53 percent) of them estimated that the number of unarmed blacks killed by police in 2019 was one thousand or over, with about 22 percent putting the number at ten thousand or above.

Almost 39 percent of those who were simply "Liberalâ€ guessed "About 1,000â€, with a further 12 percent claiming the number was more like 10,000 or more. Approximately 25 percent of self-declared "Moderatesâ€, nine percent of "Conservativesâ€, and 13 percent of "Very Conservativeâ€ Americans estimated at "aboutâ€ one thousand.

Those listed "Conservativeâ€ or "Very Conservativeâ€ guessed closest to the actual number.

The numbers are especially galling given the leftâ€™s claims to science, data, and reason. In reality, it appears they are far more prone to wild conspiracy theories than the political right.

The problem here is, these are not "wild conspiracy theories." These are memes and propaganda being drilled into the minds of children by day in schools (or Zoom classes), reinforced by the media on the nightly news and now standard business practice across a wide swathe of corporate America and consumer brands. Lest we forget what they did to Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the aftermath of "hands up don't shoot" Mike Brown. If Josef Goebbels were alive to see this, he'd pop a stiffie so hard he could run the Boston Marathon with it despite the club foot.

Second, Chauvin's trial serves the purpose of abolishing police departments without having to go through any lengthy, messy legislative processes. I mean, you would have to be out of your mind to want to be police officer given not only the inherent danger of the job but the prospect of facing a public execution for just doing your job should you find yourself in a confrontation with a Horst Wessel of color. Lastly, and probably the most insidious aspect of this is to get the minds right of those who remain on the job. In the event of actual legitimate protests occur against, say, lockdowns or stolen elections and the BLaM-tifa black-clad brownshirts be called in for a bit of bovver, you'll look the other way as more Ashli Babbitts get piled up like so much cordwood rather than intercede and risk your pension. Or you'll go door to door to find curfew violators or vaccination refuseniks. Besides, you have to show that you reject your inherent white supremacy, right? After all, you're just following orders. Oh yes, police forces may be "abolished" but there will be policing.

In second guessing this whole horrendous thing, it would actually be to the advantage of the enemy if Derek Chauvin were acquitted. Wouldn't a conviction disprove the meme that the justice system is rigged against colored people of color? Barack Obama was elected (in theory) twice in the hopes that it would close the civil rights era of "struggle" once and for all. I distinctly remember sitting at a dinner with an old liberal friend a month or so before the 2008 election who told me flat out that he was voting for Obama for no other reason than his being black and a black man should be president. How'd that work out for us?

I can only look at things through my own lens, and it's hard to fathom how these people think because my brain can't process how their minds work. How they can live with themselves. They won't be going door to door to enforce directives and edicts, they'll be going to door to door to round up the non-compliant and put them on cattle cars. Who says they're non-compliant? Someone. Someone high up. Someone important.

Yet through all of this, the *role* of the police doesn't change. The police are there to enforce the law and keep the peace according to the law. If the laws are just, the police are agents of justice. If the laws are unjust and rotten, the police are agents of injustice and rottenness. If the law says that men mustn't be murdered, the police will protect life. If the law says that certain men *must* be murdered for some unspecified public's undefined good, then the police will murder those certain men.

We got a Christmas card yesterday from a business in Hong Kong that was mailed...21 years ago. (we lived in HK from '98-'99).
It was sent to the company my husband worked for in NY 14 years ago. There are no markings on it to forward...not even to the address where we lived in CT during that time.
And it was delivered to our house here in MO.
Oh and it was sent by 'air mail'.

The only answer I have gotten on missing or late mail for the last year is "covid". They can't articulate exactly how a virus has fvcked up the mail, but that's always their answer.

Main thing I noticed was that over the last year of sitting in his house, he's picked up 30 or 40 pounds (he was a big guy anyways) At age 67, it's not going to be easy to get rid of those.
