Until I can figure out a way to cool this down, I'm disappearing them.

This is not a good solution, I understand. It's a topic of debate. Many of you want to debate it; you can do so here.

But I hate red-on-red blogfights, and I especially hate them when they are occur entirely on this blog. I figure the disappearance of both posts will at least reduce the main-post embarrassment and anger.

Disputes are better handled in comments, not in main posts calling people out.

Remember how during the recent election cycle the American press would always trot out polls taken in Europe regarding who they’d choose to be our President? (As if they had a say in the matter? Well, actually, if you go back and read some of the stories at the time about some of the fucked-up voting practices, it’s quite possible they did.) But, have you ever noticed that no one ever polls U.S. citizens about who we think should be, say, Germany’s Chancellor? Or Amsterdam’s city dog-catcher? This isn’t quite as satisfying, but the BBC has put up what they’re calling a “Euro Test.”

”This test contains 25 questions to gauge your attitude towards Europe. There are four sections: Euro People, Euro Politics, Euro Leisure and Euro Work. After taking the test you will be told which category you fall into.”

BUT:You. Will. Be. Told. Good to see there are still some “Deciders” left in this world. Sadly, this multiple-choice quiz doesn’t allow for write-in answers, and is geared towards Brits, but put on your best soccer hooligan face and go help them out, won’t you?

There's a catch, of course. The public -- oh, I'm sorry, I meant the Special Olympics waterhead public -- actually still agrees more with the Democrats on the issues, even while beginning to favor the Republicans as far as casting actual votes.

The explanation for this divergence offered is that the public is worried about uncontested liberal rule and wants to nudge the pendulum back a bit the other way.

A better explanation for this is that the public is fucking retarded.

Three words I never thought I would string together, but as TSO,  & Jonn Lilyea of This ain't Hell who have a report as well and I were wandering around the antiwar (well anti-everything) protest today we ran into Code Pink Cuties. Now there were the usual old, hags as well, but judge for yourself Natalie and Brianna were peace fairies and cute as buttons.

The President will be on CBS's news mag 60 Minutes tomorrow and I can only imagine that they didn't let him use his teleprompter. In a ninety minute interview on his own turf, where you'd think he would do better, he manages to whine about his critics, signal the death knell for Tim Geithner's term at Treasury, and fundamentally misunderstand the purpose of the Guantanamo Bay detention facility.

Obama gets sarcastic about high expectations for Geithner's bank recovery plan:

It's going to take a little bit more time than we would like to make sure that we get this plan just right. Of course, then we'd still be subject to criticism: "What's taken so long? You've been in office a whole 40 days and you haven't solved the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression!"

Actually, at the time of Obama's interview yesterday, it had been 60 days. The public is justified in believing that he should have had a plan to remedy the bank situation before now because he has been telling us for two months that one was absolutely necessary to save us from breadlines and that, of course!, he had one.

His first attempt was a giant flop when it was released on February 11 and everyone realized that he didn't have so much of a plan as an vague intention. The second attempt, details of which leaked today, does not sound much better (can you say "moral hazard"? I'm half-convinced this is an intentionally defective plan so he can ditch it and get on with the nationalizations).

Obama also noted that Geithner's job was safe and that he will henceforth be known as the Scapegoat-in-Perpetuity; even if he wanted to quit, the President wouldn't let him:

Sorry, Buddy, you've still got the job.

This is a vote of confidence from the President, sure. It's also a threat: there is no escape.

Obama's also made ignorant comments about Guantanamo Bay:

"How many terrorists have actually been brought to justice under the philosophy that is being promoted by Vice President Cheney? It hasn't made us safer. What it has been is a great advertisement for anti-American sentiment."

Guantanamo Bay was not designed or ever intended to bring terrorists to justice. It was intended to be a prison for combatants in the War on Terror. It has also been used for intelligence gathering. Obama's preoccupation with "justice" stems from his desire to pretend that the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are police actions with criminal justice goals, rather than wars for the safety and survival of the United States and American interests at home and abroad.

What a disaster.

Another brutal day for President Obama's NCAA Tournament bracket. He was just 8-for-16 on the day and he would be pretty much eliminated from contention in most pools.

...Overall, Obama picked 19 of 32 first-round games correctly.

In other words, about as well as he has with everything else he's done since taking office.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is less than impressed with President TelePrompter public outreach efforts thus far.

He mentioned U.S. sanctions against Iran, U.S. support for Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein during his 1980-88 war against Iran and the downing of an Iranian airliner over the Persian Gulf in 1988.

He also accused the U.S. of provoking ethnic tension in Iran and said Washington's accusations that Iran is seeking nuclear weapons are a sign of U.S. hostility. Iran says its nuclear program is only for peaceful purposes, like energy production, not for building weapons.

"Have you released Iranian assets? Have you lifted oppressive sanctions? Have you given up mudslinging and making accusations against the great Iranian nation and its officials? Have you given up your unconditional support for the Zionist regime? Even the language remains unchanged," Khamenei said.

Khamenei, wearing a black turban and dark robes, said America was hated around the world for its arrogance, as the crowd chanted "Death to America."

I think it's safe to say Iran's fist is still clinched. Unfortunately I doubt that means Obama isn't devising new and exciting ways to suck up to these bastards in private talks that are no doubt going on or about to start.
