Sex Toys and Power Tools Do Not Mix Well

Below the fold. Have a caution about clicking. There's no picture and the account is as sterile as possible, but it's still one of those "once you have read it you cannot un-read it" things. more...

Carville, Minutes Before 9/11: I Hope Bush Fails
— Ace

Odd that the media is only interested in provocative, wedge-causing statements emanating from one camp.

And wasn't Carville one of the four assholes pushing the Rush Limbaugh line to the public?

Sure would be nice if we had a media interested in asking questions.

Jessica Valenti Getting Hitched
— Ace

With lots of feminist angst.

She answers her readers, who see her impending nuptials as possibly hypocritical.

On the issue of same sex marriage, frye886 says, "It seems to me a more powerful action by many couples would be to refuse to get married and publicly state the reasons why not."

Andrew and I discussed not getting married until everyone could, and we think that's an understandable choice. Instead, we're trying use our impending marriage as a pro-active way to talk about same sex marriage among our friends and family, and being mindful of the inequity in every step our process. (For example, in our engagement announcement we asked anyone considering getting us a gift to instead donate to an organization fighting for same sex marriage rights; we're planning on saying something about it as part of our ceremony; and we've taken the advice of several commenters and will have donation cards to said orgs instead of favors.)

Several of you also got into it about dresses - whether the traditional white dress actually did signify "purity," etc. I'm kind of ambivalent about it, but I ended up getting a not-quite white dress (don't want to give too much away in case the boy is reading!) that I bought from a place where all the money goes to charity.

Everyone who believes that she was seriously considering delaying marriage until "everyone could," and believes she's looking at her wedding as a "pro-active way to talk about same sex marriage among our friends and family," rather than as Princess' Special Day, please raise your hand.

Your "hand," by the way, morons, is that paddle-like thingee at the end of your arm. You might know it better as your "finger-hoof."

It must be positively exhausting to have to pretend about caring so passionately about so much all the time.

Obama, Focusing Laser-Like on the Economy
— Ace

Too overwhelmed to staff critical positions at Treasury.

But that's Job One, you know.

Also Job One? Global Warming, Universal Health Care, wealth redistribution, putting the British in their place, etc.

Department Of Justice To Launch Illegal Immigration Probe...Into Local Sheriff Enforcing Immigration Laws.
— DrewM

Change!

The U.S. Justice Department has launched a civil-rights investigation of the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office after months of mounting complaints that deputies are discriminating in their enforcement of federal immigration laws.

Officials from the Justice Department's Civil Rights Division notified Sheriff Joe Arpaio on Tuesday that they had begun the investigation, which will focus on whether deputies are engaging in "patterns or practices of discriminatory police practices and unconstitutional searches and seizures."

An expert said it is the department's first civil-rights probe related to immigration enforcement.

Arpaio vehemently denies that deputies are illegally profiling as part of his immigration crackdowns. He said Tuesday that he welcomes the investigation and intends to cooperate fully.

"We have nothing to hide," he said.

Now Arpaio is a colorful character to say the least but I'm assuming his high profile is one of the reasons the Obama Justice Department is going after him.

Combine this with the Department of Homeland Security's investigation into why ICE conducted a work place enforcement raid and I'm starting to get the sense the Obama administration may not be serious about enforcing immigration laws.

Obama Administration: We're Cool With The North Koreans Launching A Satellite, It's Not Like They'd Lie To Us Or Anything
— DrewM

Dangerously naive.

"I tend to believe that the North Koreans announced that they are going to do a space launch, and I believe that that's what they intend," [Director Of National Intelligence Dennis Blair] told the Senate Armed Services Committee Tuesday.

Keep in mind Blair is the same guy who thought Chas "The Jewwwws Got Me" Freeman was the best available pick to create intelligence estimates. Feel better now?

Follow the link to McKittrick's place to see how the White House reacted to the Navy's announcement they good shoot the missile down if ordered to. Needless to say, it wasn't the right way.

So as Madame Clinton tries (but fails) to hit the reset button with Russia, Team Diplomacy has more or less told two of our closet allies, Israel and Japan, they are on their own in dealing with their biggest security concerns.

Change indeed.

Get Your Stinking Paws Off Pop Culture, You Damn Dirty Artist!
— Russ from Winterset

From the headlines.

I wasn't going to elevate it to the main board, but I kept getting a disturbing mental image.

Jackie Earle Haley replaced by a CGI character in some future "re-imagination" of Watchmen.

"Meesa Rorschach! Meesa fight crime!"

As Shakespeare once said: "Will noone rid me of this troublesome jackass?" At least I THINK it was Shakespeare. If I go back and read the George Lucas reimagined version of the play, the work's probably attributed to a talking pie now.

Camille Paglia goes wobbly
— Purple Avenger

Drudge had this, but its worth expanding on a bit.

As I read Paglia's piece, which indicts Obama's advisor's, aids, and hangers on, rather than Obama himself for having such shockingly poor judgment to have chosen a train wreck crew like this to begin with, I get the creepy feeling that her tone and words are similar to many Germans after being confronted with the reality of what the Nazis did. Lots of Germans said shit like: "Oh, if only the fuhrer had known about those death camps he would have put a stop to it!". They simply couldn't get their heads around the fact that the fuhrer wasn't exactly what he claimed to be, so dire shit simply HAD to be someone else's fault.

The Paglias of the world can't envision a scenario where Obama is to blame for anything - he inexplicably possesses a tautological purity of intent for them, despite a background and associations suggesting the man is about as pure of intent as Carlo Gambino.

I find it impossible to believe that the most "media connected" president ever, who still has a Blackberry, isn't wired in on what's going on within his administration. Chances are someone even leaked Paglia's column to them in draft form and Obama knew about it before it even went to press.

Its not a lack of communication, its a lack of character.
