— Ace Reader Mark sends this:
Yesterday Rush Limbaugh announced he had been lying about his not meeting with Obama back in January. He explained what really happened is that he did in fact have a secret meeting with Obama in which he told Obama he hoped his policies fail. Obama responded, “Look, I hear you but I won, I’m a visionary.”He later read an email from a caller who was extremely disappointed that Rush lied to us. Rush sighed heavily and explained why he did. He brought in the Joe Biden story about meeting with Bush.
The explanation was a bit contorted and I wondered about it. Last night late I went to his site and read it in detail and began to realize, RushÂ’s lie was in the past: this story of his is the lie. And it is quite ingenious.

— Ace The coordinated message about the failure of the party and well-funded advocacy groups to actually advertise on blogs has induced one group to do so.
I'd like to make fun of them for whining but I can't -- this stuff gets talked about a lot on the right side of the blogosphere. Not only do we on the right push the party's message and encourage people to donate to candidates, we also encourage people to donate specifically to such advocacy and message groups -- gratis. But these groups seem happy enough with the free advertisements, and never seem especially interested in paying for mentions.
I get a lot of emails from these groups seeking posts about their videos, statements, and of course ability to receive donations. How about paying for an ad, guys?

— Ace About a half-year after Gary Gygax.
Arneson actually invented the role-playing game. Gygax was its most zealous apostle.
Reading these obits, I can't tell what Arneson did, as a job, "for real." I don't remember them saying what Gygax did, or had done, either.
Thanks to a veritable plethora of tipsters.

— Slublog No more McCains, ever. Sound like a deal? Meghan McCain, the daughter of our 2008 nominee, is trying to make herself the future leader of the party. Here's a sample of her winning strategy:
Thank you so much Mary, yes we have to take back our party from radicals! xoxoExcuse me? "Our" party, Ms. McCain? Those are awfully
Based on her writings and media appearances, though, she's simply a younger version of her father - a Republican who realizes the easiest and best way to achieve media adulation is to speak out against all of the conservative 'radicals' who make up a good percentage of the party.
To paraphrase Rush Limbaugh, I hope she fails.

— Jack M. What a douchetool.
How much does Obama love his pizza? So much that he is willing to fly a chef 860 miles to Washington D.C. to make him a personal pizza.
When you're the president of the United States, only the best pizza will do - even if that means flying a chef 860 miles.Chris Sommers, 33, jetted into Washington from St Louis, Missouri, on Thursday with a suitcase of dough, cheese and pans to to prepare food for the Obamas and their staff.
He had apparently been handpicked after the President had tasted his pizzas on the campaign trail last autumn.
Hey, you guys know what says you are really sincere about this whole Global Warming thing that you want to use to justify an economy crushing cap and trade program? Jetting a dude across the country to make you a freaking pie.
And you know what says you have a real solid handle on the economic concerns of citizens who are struggling through the recession? Jetting a dude across the country to "hand toss your dough".
It's not as if you can't get pizza in Washington. I know. I eat at Armand's Chicago Pizzeria a lot. It's pretty damn good. And conveniently located on Capitol Hill! I even saw Joe Biden there once. So, you know, you could probably get directions.
Now, granted, the good folks at Armand's probably don't make the "Hyde Park" (a special Obama pizza topped with chicken and hot sauce) but they are willing to work with you on the toppings. If you are looking for something with a little zing, I would recommend the "Sgt. Pepper". But then you would expect that from a Beatles fan.
I am disappointed in one thing, though.
If you are gonna fly a chef nearly 2000 miles round trip to make you some specialty pizzas, shouldn't you have gone the whole nine yards and asked for arugula?
Or is that a sacrifice you are making for the "common good"? If so, Courage, little buckeroo. Courage.
An afterthought: You know, Democrats, Obama is the head of your party. You freaking own him.
So I don't want to see you lecturing the CEO's of bailout companies about using private jets to petition the government, when your guy is jetting dudes across the country to make him a few slices of 'Za.
Why? If I may modify a riff from Jeff Goldstein: "BECAUSE OF THE PIZZA!"

— Purple Avenger The smell of food in general works, but Lavender and pumpkin pie increase boner blood flow by around 30%. When word gets out, Viagra sales will collapse.
Some smells they didn't investigate that certain males apparently seem to think work - stale beer, vomit, crown royal, and axle grease.

— Open Blog (Let's try this again without the technical glitches, shall we? Hopefully someone can delete the fucked up redundant post below, because gawd knows I've tried)
(More updatish: Looks like we've closed the space/time/blog rift between dimensions and the parallel post has vanished. For a brief second though I thought I heard a scream of utter despair as it went off into the Void. Oh well.)
O.K. class…get out your safety scissors and Elmer’s glue. On tonight’s thread you’ll be making your own desktop papercraft versions of My Little Cthulhu, courtesy of Dreamland Toyworks. (Acrobat Reader is required to get and print the cutouts) You may choose between the traditional green Cthulhu or the alternate red or black versions. Extra credit will be given if you also construct the cutout “victim” within this class period. (Those can be found at the bottom right corner of each Cthulhu cutout sheet)
Simply follow the non-existent instructions concerning “insert Tab A into Slot B” and you’ll be just fine. If you finish early, please restrain your Cthulhu from attacking classmates until at least 5 minutes before the end of the period. Any questions? No? Please start working now, and as I always remind you, the glue is not meant to be eaten. Only souls.

— Dave in Texas I threw this in the sidebar earlier, but one part of this story kinda stuck in my craw, as they say in Connecticut.
It was this..
The university, which isn't selling tickets, is not amused. Seniors who are selling the tickets instead of inviting guests are robbing other people connected to ASU -- returning students, faculty and staff -- of the chance to see Obama, university spokeswoman Sharon Keeler said.
and this...
When students are selling their tickets, they're taking away from the ability of someone else from the university community to go," she said.A notice on ASU's Web site warns that selling the tickets would be a violation of the school's student code of conduct. The school is monitoring the online advertisements, and anyone caught would be referred to the university's judicial system, Keeler said.
She said she didn't know what punishment the violators could face.
You know why she doesn't know what punishment the violators could face? Allow me to splain. Because they haven't figured out what violation of the university's "total fucking embarassment clause" they're committing.
They will. They just didn't know today, when the story broke. And they are NOT. AMUSED. (ponder that bullshit from the impartial writer).
Students. Who have been given tickets are selling something that's been given to them (as part of their $90,000 investment in a degree), a pass to see His Esteemedness. And because this has run afoul of the law of unintended consequences (who the fuck would sell a ticket to an Obama commencement?), there should be hell to pay.
Nope. They can sell em if they want to, and I'd love to watch ASU's counsel defend any persnickety punishment (like, oh say withholding a diploma, good luck Sun Devil Beagles) they think they can manage within budget.
