Jimmy Carter Hospitalized
— Ace

Be classy, people.

Former President Jimmy Carter was taken off a plane and hospitalized Tuesday in Cleveland after he reported feeling ill.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Hopkins Airport said the 85-year-old former president was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center by ambulance...

Unrelated But Similarly Brief: Eiffel Tower evacuated due to bomb threat. Bomb threats are pretty common there.

Update: His spokesman says he just has an upset stomach and will soon be back to promoting his latest anti-Jew book.

Rasmussen: Raese up 2 over Manchin, 48-46, with leaners.

Contributing to that is (at Hot Air) Manchin's cynical position on ObamaCare, which basically consists of saying "If you like my ObamaCare support, you can keep my ObamaCare support; if you like my ObamaCare opposition, you can keep my ObamaCare opposition." He's now on record as being simultaneously for the measure (for Democrats) and against it (for everyone else), and he's sticking to his non-position.

Also at Hot Air: Quinnippiac puts McMahon close to Bluementhal, just 9 5 3 behind.

I remember this sort of I Hear The Footsteps situation in Scott Brown's race against Martha Coakley.

Hello! Andy Stern, Of SEIU Fame, Reportedly Under Federal Investigation UPDATE: Stern Statement Denying Knowledge Of Investigation
— DrewM

Gee, I wonder if this ever came up during all of Stern's visits to the White House.

Prominent ex-labor leader Andy Stern is reportedly being investigated by the FBI and Department of Labor as part of a corruption probe involving the Service Employees International Union, authorities said.

Two organized labor officials met with federal agents this summer to answer questions about SternÂ’s role in approving money to pay the salary of an SEIU leader in California who performed no work and a book contract that Stern landed in 2006, The Los Angeles Times reported today on its website.

Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the investigation.

...Stern abruptly resigned as president of the 2.2-million member SEIU in April.

Stern, who currently sits on President Obama's bipartisan deficit-reduction commission, has not commented on the investigation.

As part of the corruption probe, the feds have been examining $150,000 in consulting fees paid to a disgraced former Los Angeles labor leader under a confidential agreement signed by Stern, then president of the powerful Service Employees International Union, according to documents and interviews.

Once upon a time the media had a term for this kind of thing. Culture of...Culture of something...oh right, CULTURE OF CORRUPTION!

Related enough (via LauraW.)...the head of the AFL-CIO thinks it's about time to "re-establish popular control over the private corporations".

Again, there's a term for that...it's on the tip of my tongue...it's, um, oh yeah...SOCIALISM.

UPDATE:Stern denies having any knowledge he's being investigated.

Obama: Fox News' "Point Of View" Is "Ultimately Destructive" For The Country
— DrewM

This from the most destructive President in history. It would be laughable if it weren't so infuriating.

Look, as president, I swore to uphold the Constitution, and part of that Constitution is a free press. We’ve got a tradition in this country of a press that oftentimes is opinionated. The golden age of an objective press was a pretty narrow span of time in our history. Before that, you had folks like Hearst who used their newspapers very intentionally to promote their viewpoints. I think Fox is part of that tradition — it is part of the tradition that has a very clear, undeniable point of view. It’s a point of view that I disagree with. It’s a point of view that I think is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world. But as an economic enterprise, it’s been wildly successful. And I suspect that if you ask Mr. Murdoch what his number-one concern is, it’s that Fox is very successful.

Yes, well. Fox News is the most watched and most trusted source in America according to polls. Just another case where Obama is out of step with most Americans. Imagine that.

Can you imagine if George W. Bush spent 1/10 the time whining like a little girl about the press that Obama does?

Obama is the most thin skinned, lying, anti-prosperity, anti-American exceptionalism President in memory and he's lecturing people about what is destructive to America? The irony, it burns!

Call me when Fox News has put this country on a path to fiscal ruin. Call me when Fox News has endangered the health care of nearly every American. And call me when Fox News has sold out freedom loving allies to authoritarian thugs.

Until then Mr. President...shut the fuck up.

Oh one other thought...this "golden age of an objective press" Obama misses so much? Yeah, that's when the mainstream media consisted of the 3 networks regurgitating what they read in the liberal NY Times earlier in the day. All this holding liberal propaganda to some competition and fact checking is so darn destructive to the country. Why, it's like once the people find out what the self anointed gatekeepers are holding back from them, they tend not to be so fond of mainlining socialism.

And one other, other thought...Presidents really shouldn't be attacking companies and individuals by name. Not only is it punching down but it has the odor of an enemies list. But what do you expect from a President who sides with thugs around the world and practices "Gangster Government" at home?

Is it January 2013 yet?

Congressman Alan Grayson: Dishonest Scum
— DrewM

Congressman Alan Grayson is a well known jackass. He goes well above the normal amount of jackassery one would expect from your average Democrat and regular Keith Olbermann guest.

His recent ad attacking his Republican opponent explores new depths in dishonesty, again, even above that of your normal Democrat. Grayson compares challenger Daniel Webster to an Islamic fanatic in his views on women.

Well, Caleb Howe at Red State has the video of the speech from which those Webster clips were taken. Not only does Grayson's ad take those soundbites out of context, it actually reverses the context entirely.

Grayson is a disgrace and he's flat out lied to the voters of his district. This clown needs to go down and go down hard. Here's Daniel Webster's website.

Thanks to Baseball Crank for the heads up.

Something with your morning coffee, a little bit of a stir created by Sheriff Joe this week in Manchester NH, telling the Dem base to stop bitching already.

He said Democrats can win both races if they draw clear distinctions between themselves and their Republican opponents, and he urged Democrats to "remind our base constituency to stop whining and get out there and look at the alternatives. This president has done an incredible job. He's kept his promises."

I don't find it all that controversial, he's referring to their legislative accomplishments and not any actually positive results when he says Obama kept all his promises (except things like *cough*Gitmo*cough*). Besides, Obama's got them anyway, if Dems can wake up enough of them to go vote on Nov. 2. So he says go out there and insult them a little, because for the base they just need to avoid a depressed turnout.

Joe's kinda funny in that "crazy uncle who keeps pulling his pants off" sorta way.

MORE of the same from Obama to the base: Your apathy is "inexcusable".

A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Moron

So before the whole Mexican midget tranny deal went south I was doing my annual clean up of the computer room/laboratory and stumbled across some old boxed up documents. One of them turned out to be a photocopy of the very first short story I ever wrote, way back at the wee age of 5 and a half.

I remember begging my mother to write it down for me being that I was illiterate at the time. So she sat down and duly typed it out on the family typewriter. She may have corrected a word or two and added in some punctuation (and breathing pauses), but it is pretty much is as it tumbled out of my young hyperactive mouth.

I do recall that it was loosely based on a dream I had. Probably brought on after watching a marathon of Johnny Quest and Lost in Space. And you can already see in it some of the themes that make up the Maet of today - concern over the extraterrestrial menace, an unhealthy interest in explosives and chemicals, and a fondness for technology-enabled violence. Clearly I was Abby Normal already at the tender age of five.

old-glory-2.jpg

Of course reading it again I can see now that it has some continuity issues and needs better characterization and more fleshing out in the second act. And possibly a love interest. But hey, for a little guy who had been talking for less than a year and a half, had at best adequate bladder control, and who could barely dress himself at the time all in all I think it was some decent work.

So here it is in all its glory below. And yeah I know it's no smashing figs in grottoes but really what is? more...

CoffeeParty About As Much As Hip, Happenin' Party As You Expected
— Ace

Stuff you'd hear about if these were Republicans:

1) The white rapper is awful. His tough rhymes have the "gritty authenticity of Boulder, CO, suburbs' ice rinks and Lazer-Tag parks."

2) The white blue-hairs in the audience have trouble finding a beat to clap to, which isn't entirely their fault. Eventually they all seem to agree on a simplistic 1/2 time clap, which isn't really right at all, but at least they're all on the same page in being wrong. It's kind of embarrassing early on when you have eleven or twelve distinct attempts at a time-signature being clapped.

Something else:

1) Gee, for a "moderate" answer to the Tea Party, they seem to be using the chants of the Old Left, and the rapper sure seems big on leftwing agitprop!

Anyway, this is the big fat CoffeeParty that was so huge that CNN had to do sixteen bazillion lead stories on it. At Hot Air, the story of the national convention that no one heard about.

But below, MC TrustFund and DJ PhillipsExeter.

Old and Busted: I Sure Would Like to Tap Lindsey Lohan and Tell All My Friends About It!
New Hotness: I'm 90% Sure I'm Going To Have The Chance, But I'm Not Going To Tell Anyone

— Ace

Yeah.

Well, Lindsey, I've got some bad news and some worse news.

The bad news is you can't really trade on your pedo-friendly looks for very long, even in Hollywood, and expect to get by on just that. Looks fade, and one day you're going to look like a woman instead of a sex-child.

The worse news is I've been trying to get in touch with you about this for three years.
