— Ace Frank Miller doesn't like barbarians threatening civilization much.
EverybodyÂ’s been too damn polite about this nonsense:
The “Occupy” movement, whether displaying itself on Wall Street or in the streets of Oakland (which has, with unspeakable cowardice, embraced it) is anything but an exercise of our blessed First Amendment. “Occupy” is nothing but a pack of louts, thieves, and rapists, an unruly mob, fed by Woodstock-era nostalgia and putrid false righteousness. These clowns can do nothing but harm America.
“Occupy” is nothing short of a clumsy, poorly-expressed attempt at anarchy, to the extent that the “movement” – HAH! Some “movement”, except if the word “bowel” is attached - is anything more than an ugly fashion statement by a bunch of iPhone, iPad wielding spoiled brats who should stop getting in the way of working people and find jobs for themselves.
This is no popular uprising. This is garbage.
By the way, Occupy Portland is getting ready to riot. A protester tipped off police that other protesters were stockpiling stones, gathering boards with nails in them, and even digging a trench-line for a pitched fight.
Portland will be evicting them tonight, supposedly.

— rdbrewer Vaccine for ethical blindness? I'm sorry. I meant experimental remedy for non-existent threat. Smallpox. But it's okay; it's a big Obama donor. From the LA Times:
Senior officials have taken unusual steps to secure the contract for New York-based Siga Technologies Inc., whose controlling shareholder is billionaire Ronald O. Perelman, one of the world's richest men and a longtime Democratic Party donor. When Siga complained that contracting specialists at the Department of Health and Human Services were resisting the company's financial demands, senior officials replaced the government's lead negotiator for the deal, interviews and documents show.
When Siga was in danger of losing its grip on the contract a year ago, the officials blocked other firms from competing.
Too bad. An ethical blindness vaccine might help Democrats, the media, and OWS protestors see the crony-capitalism on display here.

— Dave in Texas November football is the best football.
Ranked matchups include Auburn (24) at Georgia (14), Oregon (6) at Stanford (3),
and of course Nebraska (19) at Penn St (12). I don't really have anything to add to this awful story.
Va. Tech (10) already took it to Ga. Tech (20) on Thursday night.
Have a great Saturday morons. Remember your picks for tomorrow if you screwed up like me and forgot the Thursday night game. If you don't think too good, don't think too long.

Oh, also some good news out of Venezuela (what are the odds of that?), Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos has been rescued from his kidnappers.

To all the Veterans out there, I salute you. Thank you for your service and may those of us who still have the watch, measure up to the standards of previous generations of warriors and continue to serve America and keep the flame of freedom lit.
I went by a local VFW today. I bought a few rounds for some veterans and was regaled with stories of their time in service. Some were sad. Some were uplifting. It was an honor to hear their stories. Tremendous experience and one that I highly recommend y'all do sometime.

History Of Veterans Day more...

— Ace Essentially he's a fighter who's dazed on his feet. He has one round to throw some roundhouses and maybe, possibly land a hit and get back in the fight. No reason to conserve resources now.
Is Perry done?

— Ace Hot Air has some vid inside, and Weasel Zippers has some outside, including a cop bodyslamming a hippie.
I'm told. The internet is poor here so I can't really watch the videos.
They're supposed to be back in a couple of hours.
I kept out of the scrum, but the reports are that they do in fact smell, of soured, fermented body-sweat, cigarettes, and rutting lice.
I don't know what rutting lice smell like but that must have been in the mix.
And the people saying they smell are largely people who themselves were traveling all day yesterday, then stayed up till 1 am drinking, then rolled out of bed without showering.
So, to us they still smell.
I was just on FTR radio (sorry, I meant to give a head's up but draaamaa intervened) and I pointed out something simple: They are protesting because they suck at life. Their lives suck. They are doomed to suck.
But, the thing is, in any system or society, they would be on the bottom. In the socialist paradise they dream of, they'd be the drudges with the four-to-an-apartment situations.
They seem to think that if they change the way society values things, then they'll rise to the top. But they wouldn't. Because in any system, including socialism, you still have to do something to earn that top spot on the socialist gravy train.
The problems that beset them in a less-socialist system -- lack of discipline, lack of skills, lack of hygiene, lack of not sucking, etc. -- would still hamper them in the socialist paradise they clamor for.
And the thing is, the people on top of thing in a capitalist system? Would still be perched near the top of a socialist system. Because even a socialist system winds up promoting people who show up on time, do the tasks assigned to them (mostly looting money from other people), and tuck in their shirts once in a while.
We'd just all be poorer.
I pity them. What they are angry at is, ultimately, the universe itself for giving them life but not giving them ability.

The veteran I knew best was my dad. I don't have a picture of him in uniform. Here he is a few years after his service, standing in front of his pink Thunderbird. He was an enlisted man in the Army, and when he went to jump school at Ft. Benning, they offered him a job. He was asked to join what he always called "the cadre." It's now called the Blackhat Cadre, due to the distinctive hats they wear. From Google Books:
They are more than instructors, because in a very tangible way they are the Airborne School. They are the custodians of tradition, and they are the link that joins paratrooper of the past with paratroopers of the future, with every new paratrooper that they train.. . .
The cadre's main function is to teach you how to get from the airplane to the ground without killing yourself or injuring others around you. The method of instruction has changed little since World War II.
They had already taken notice of him, but he got the job offer because of the way he handled a fight with a bully. There was a lieutenant going through jump school who picked on everyone, and everyone hated him. One day he started-in on my dad who tried to ignore him. Then he said, simply, "Why don't you just leave me alone." They guy persisted and finally thunked dad on the head with his finger.
You can't touch somebody like that.
The lieutenant had a beating coming, and he got it. Before the fight was over, everybody turned out to see it--everyone rooting for dad. He quit as soon as the guy indicated he'd had enough. Apparently instructors or officers witnessed the fight too. About thirty minutes later, dad was escorted to the CO's office. All the officers were there, the big guy sitting at a desk. Dad thought he was going to the stockade. "Brewer, we've been watching you... (here it comes) We like your style, and we'd like you to stay on here as cadre."
So dad stayed at Ft. Benning while his buddies shipped out to Korea.
I told this story to G. Gordon Liddy once. I was a fan of his show and sent him a letter. Liddy read it on the air and explained that my dad was selected because of the way he handled that fight. He had tried his best to avoid it, and when it could no longer be avoided, he took care of business. (Interesting coincidence: Liddy was at Ft. Benning at the same time.)
There were other things in place, of course. He was a smart guy and a good soldier. He had also qualified for the pistol and rifle teams. He chose the pistol team: "I knew I'd spend less time on the ground [in the prone position] shooting a pistol."
The Army was perfect for dad, young man that he was. It gave him structure and taught him how to be a man. It made a permanent impression on him that translated into tremendous practical benefit later on in business. It taught him how to lead.
So, here's to a good soldier, my dad. His birthday was 11-11, by the way.

— Ace Currently it's two groups of people videotaping each other with cellphones. In one case, two people are cell-phone taping each other's cell-phones.
Several of the BlogCon guys are barring the door to the conference room.
There's about 20 of them. They're fairly young and dirty and speak in a strange jargon like the Oasis Tribe in Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.
Now they're doing that "mike check" thing, and are chanting.
The BlogCon folks are now chanting back: "WE. are. the 99%."
The BlogCon people began chanting, "We want the dog, we want the dog." Apparently these mutants were the ones who elected a dog as a leader or something.
A dirty blond mongrel tried to bullrush into the room, and was repelled. And also, wasn't allowed to enter. When the hell are the cops going to get here?
The BlogCon people continue chanting snarky things, like "I like spaghetti!" "Breitbart, Breitbart!" and "This is what losing looks like!" The cops are escroting the hoboes out to the rousing serenade of nah-nah-nah, hey-ey-ey, goodbye.
