— Ace Oh God. The hits just keep on coming.
Anyone really gonna vote against Romney? Or Huckabee? Gonna vote to keep this guy in office for four more horrific years, huh?
ussia's government plans to exploit the Obama administrationÂ’s eagerness to conclude a missile defense deal as a way to obtain valuable technology from advanced U.S. missile defenses, according to U.S. national security officials. The Russians specifically are seeking a defense technology cooperation deal with the Pentagon that will permit them to gain access to U.S. hit-to-kill missile defense know-how, the key technology for the most current strategic long-range and tactical short-range defenses that were developed at a cost of billions of taxpayer dollars over the past two decades.
The reason, the officials said, is that Moscow knows it can offer very little in the way of cooperative missile defense with the U.S. The current strategic anti-missile interceptors around Moscow are armed with nuclear warheads — tactical weapons that Moscow is not expected to use against an Iranian missile attack.
Additionally, the nuclear-tipped interceptors are supposed to be the subject of follow-on U.S.-Russian tactical nuclear arms reduction talks based on the recently ratified New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty.
Wait, what? Why are we trying to limit Moscow's own very limited nuclear defense? What do we care if they have some interceptor air-burst defensive nukes that probably won't work?
Is this part of Obama's plan to give up our own defense in exchange for Russia giving up its non-defense?
Thanks to RD.

— Ace Via Althouse, another example of something that was played as an embarrassment for Bush, and proof of his stupidity, instead serving as a "see? he's just like you" human-warmth moment for Obama.
I guess there's an easy edgy joke about a threatening black man trying to get into a locked home but Obama's about as threatening as Urkel's agent's aromatherapist's opthamalagist's hairdresser's panty shield.

— Ace Well, there you go.
This hurts T-Paw, as she'll strongly compete for home-state donations.
In related news, Meghan McCain just got a new tattoo of a rack of spare ribs eating a burrito.

Less ha-ha and more ta-ta. Stick to what you're enhanced at.
As (I think) the late lamented Greg Giraldo said, Meghan McCain is to comedy what Einstein was to comedy.
Incidentally, she goes after Sarah Palin as if the poor woman were a pork chop sauteed in Haagen-Dasz and Axe body spray.
This seems to be the go-to topic for un-bright women posing dishonestly as conservatives.
Keep trying, Meghan! Hopefully you'll find something you're good at some day!
The more she fails at everything the more attractive she seems, because, come on, she's got to be good at something, right?
It's like the law of averages, right? Or just the idea that the universe is merciful?
If she's this bad at everything else -- come on, gotta be, right?

— DrewM Libya is not a war you silly wingnuts, it's simply "kinetic military action". Hope that clears things up for you.
In the last few days, Obama administration officials have frequently faced the question: Is the fighting in Libya a war? From military officers to White House spokesmen up to the president himself, the answer is no. But that leaves the question: What is it?In a briefing on board Air Force One Wednesday, deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes took a crack at an answer. "I think what we are doing is enforcing a resolution that has a very clear set of goals, which is protecting the Libyan people, averting a humanitarian crisis, and setting up a no-fly zone," Rhodes said. "Obviously that involves kinetic military action, particularly on the front end."
We've always been at war kinetic military action with Eastasia!
Oh, so our military is just dropping bombs, blowing things up and killing people in another country. Why on Earth would anyone think that's war? FYI- this non-war isn't meeting expectations yet. I wonder when the NY Times will declare it, whatever it is, a quagmire.
Meanwhile, it appears the ghost of Al Haig tried to stage a coup while Obama was gone and take over the Oval Office.
Sadly, somebody appears to have let him in.
Added: Ace has often talked about one of the main powers of the presidency...to not talk about something. It's the corollary to the "Bully Pulpit", if POTUS doesn't talk about something, it doesn't really exist and it's certainly not a crisis.
Well, Obama hasn't gone on TV to address the nation about Libya as every president I can remember has when sending troops into action. Yesterday I saw something on Twitter, I'll try and find the link (here it is), that said Obama has no public events scheduled for today or tomorrow. Now comes word there will be no on camera briefing by the White House spokesman either. They are simply hiding from the American people so they don't have to explain themselves. It's shameless and dangerous (if the military is going into action people need to support the mission. It's the job of the president to layout that mission and rally the public. Obama is derelict in doing his duty. Again.)

— Monty [UPDATE] As statements of the obvious go, this one is pretty to-the-point. It's more like a judo-chop to the neck than a punch in the gut.
There actually is such a thing. Quote:
America’s too-big-to-fail banks are well on their way to becoming too big to save. That point will be reached when saving the big banks, protecting their creditors, and stabilizing the economy plunges the US government so deeply into debt that its solvency is called into question, interest rates rise sharply, and a fiscal crisis erupts. In other words, the “doom loop” isn’t really a loop at all. It does end eventually, as it has – just for starters – in Iceland, Ireland, and Greece.
Over in poor, boned California: actuaries (finally) tell the state the truth, but the cities don't want to hear it. Whenever you hear a government official express concern about how underfunded the pension plan is, you can be sure that this concern is of a much lower order than their concern over immediate budget shortfalls. If it comes down to paying bills now or funding the pension, they'll kick the pension can down the road every time.
Speaking of the Loyal Order of the Terminally Boned (LOTB)... Illinois? Boned. Massachusetts? Boned. Rhode Island? Boned. Montana? Boned. In fact, you can say that the LOTB now includes about 30 US states, and many foreign countries. Newest foreign entry: Slovenia! Welcome!
And let's not forget one of the founding members of the LOTB, Portugal. Their government collapsed yesterday over resistance to a government austerity call to fend off an ECB bailout. They now get in line behind Ireland and Greece in the ECB's bailout window. (I don't see how any of the three can avoid a default at this point; it's pretty clear that none of their citizens will stand for the kind of austerity measures the ECB is going to demand as a precondition for a bailout.) Next up: Spain!
What killed Detroit? Union Greed. Well, that, and four decades of truly abysmal city and state government.
Doom! DOOM! DOOOOOOOOOOOOM!
In the immortal style of Nat King Cole, let me sing a little song for you. I call it...Unsustainable.
Unsustainable, that's what we are
Unsustainable though near or far
Like a fog of doom that clings to me
How the thought of debt does things to me
Never before has an economy been more
Unsustainable
more...

— Gabriel Malor Alternate headline: Grandstanding fool to roll out red carpet for group of non-stop whiners that face less discrimination and "hate crimes" than several other groups, according to FBI data, including Jews, gays, and (shock!) Caucasians. Maybe that's too long?
Democratic Sen. Dick Durbin (Ill.) announced Tuesday that he will hold Congress' first-ever hearing on the civil rights of American Muslims next week. The hearing comes a little more than two weeks after a Republican in Congress made headlines by holding a controversial hearing on the radicalization of Muslim Americans. The release announcing the hearing said it is in response to the "pike [sic] in anti-Muslim bigotry in the last year including Quran burnings, restrictions on mosque construction, hate crimes, hate speech, and other forms of discrimination."
As has been noted repeatedly, though few Democrats dare to publicly acknowledge it, discrimination and hate crimes against Jews in the United States exceed same directed at Muslims by an order of magnitude. Sen. Durbin goes on in his statement to jaw about religious freedom and intolerance. If he had an ounce of integrity, he would recognize that "anti-Muslim bigotry" is a fraction of what Jews face. Muslims are just more vocal about it because they've got a friendly audience in Washington.
Democrats have made a fetish of holding the Muslim community's hand. Why such attention paid to Muslim sensibilities? Well, you don't see radical Jews blowing up buildings, shooting our troops, threatening beheadings, and funding terrorism abroad, do you?

— Gabriel Malor Year after year, science finds explanations, scientific reasons behind all the legends. They think this proves history was not as myth has shown it, but in fact it proves that all the myths were true.
