— Open Blogger [Above the post update - Andy]: I did a thread about OregonMuse's issue earlier this week.
I just emailed Pixy to check on the first batch of IPs I sent him (about a half dozen). If you're having an issue commenting and haven't sent me your information yet, please follow the instructions in my post. Thanks.

On today's book thread I wrote:
I have lost the ability to post comments on this blog. It doesn't tell me I've been banned, it's just that when I enter a comment and click on the 'Post' button, the screen refreshes and the comment simply disappears and does not appear in the comment list. This occurs whether I use IE, FF, or Chrome, and it doesn't matter if I'm in Linux or Windows. I've also reset my modem and gotten a new IP address, but I still can't comment. Anyone else run into this before?
I wonder how many other morons this has happened to besides me. If you're reading this and are unable to comment for some mysterious reason, not because you've been accidentally banned, please send an email to me (OregonMuse and then the at-sign and then yahoo, then dot, and finally com); I just want to get a count. I can't promise anything, but if I get a lot of responses, maybe I can rattle some cages and get it looked at. more...

Yeah, some dumb guy in Philadelphia actually thought putting up this sculpture was a good idea
Good morning, 'rons and 'ettes, and welcome to the Sunday Morning Book Thread. I had to be out of town most of the day yesterday, so today's content will be light.
Book by Morons for Morons
You're all probably familiar with longtime moron commenter Wyatt Earp. You've heard him bitch about his home town, Philadelphia ("the crack whore of cities"), and you've heard him piss and moan about the Eagles, an NFL team known primarily for being used by other NFL teams to blow their noses on, but despite all this, he got off his sorry ass and actually wrote a book. When I was highlighting moron authors awhile back, I somehow missed him. Anyway, Mr. Earp's book Only Son, is available on Kindle for the absolutely outrageous very reasonable price of $3.99. The plot of this crime novel involves "a discharged U.S. serviceman [being] found dead on a Philadelphia street and a pair of homicide detectives struggle to solve a crime with no witnesses, no leads, and no family to speak for the victim."
And you know no one knows the mean streets of Philadelphia ("we're not as corrupt as Baltimore") quite like Wyatt Earp, a police officer who no doubt spends all of his time dealing with perps, creeps, scrotes, toughs, punks, thugs, and Methodists.
So buy his book and read it, dammit.

So Long Big E. She served her country well.
There isn't another active warship on the planet with a comparable legacy. The USS Enterprise first saw action during the Cuban Missile Crisis, tasked with stopping Soviet ships from reaching Fidel Castro's shores, and on November 4, returned to its Newport, Virginia home after supporting the Afghanistan war. In between, Enterprise participated in most of the major national-security events in its five decade history. Oh, and it made history as well: the Enterprise is the first ever nuclear aircraft carrier.
Hopefully, another warship will bear the name Enterprise. Sure beats all the latest ones.
UPDATE: Seems SECNAV has declared that CVN-80 will indeed be named USS Enterprise.
Unfortunately, Captain Kirk could not attend today's ceremony. more...

— Dave in Texas Sweet Jeebus it's 80 here today.
Footballs are happening too. Mostly waiting to see who plays Noter Dang.
I suppose there is some consolation, that they've been out of consideration for a couple decades. I like that. Also I'm conflicted over the Georgia-Alabama fight. Dad is from GA. Mom and me from AL. But dad graduated from Auburn.
Let it burn.
Have a great weekend you dorks.

— andy I have a busy morning, but I'll be back this afternoon with the gun thread before settling in for the contest to determine who gets to play Notre Dame for the BCS national championship.
And by play I mean beat.
