Buzzfeed tried to scoop them by releasing an edited version. The video is of Obama speaking at Harvard in 1991 in support of racial hiring practices. Obama was supporting Derrick Bell, a Harvard professor advocating the hiring of blacks over other ethnic and racial groups.

Earlier today, Buzzfeed’s Ben Smith announced on Twitter that video researcher Andrew Kaczynski had released “the mysterious Harvard/Obama/race video that the Breitbart folks have been talking about.”

However, the video has been selectively edited--either by the Boston television station or by Buzzfeed itself. Over the course of the day, Breitbart.com will be releasing additional footage that has been hidden by Obama's allies in the mainstream media and academia.

Classy, urbane Tom Brokaw makes fun of Mitt Romney on MSNBC. You know, MSNBC, where the elegant people go.

He made fun of Romney's "white man's overbite." That's something I never heard of before. Apparently there is some racial stereotype attached to white people who are having fun. Something to do with the teeth.

Seasoned broadcast veteran Tom Brokaw appeared on MSNBC’s Morning Joe and did a hilarious impression of one of Mitt Romney‘s trademark facial tics — the “white man overbite.” Prior to Brokaw’s imitation, the other panelists were discussing what the Republican hopeful had to do to corral conservative supporters.

“I have not seen that dance step from the Romney campaign,” Brokaw observed. “I mean, that’s a really slow move, and he tends to go one way and crashes into the wall and goes out or you know, he goes out and does the white man overbite!”

The MSNBC panel thought that was hi-larious. That's just the way they roll at MSNBC. They're full of class.

The Department of Human Services granted $11 million dollars to Detroit to provide business attire to job seekers. Two people were helped.

The audit, conducted by the city's auditor general for the period from July 2009 to September 2011, found the department failed to control the operations and finances of a boutique that was to provide the clothes.

The department did not safeguard grant funds or create an inventory for the clothing, the audit found.

Among the most telling findings, which will be discussed today during a City Council committee meeting, is that a third-party contractor advanced $148,000 to a downtown Detroit clothing store and opened an account, but did not include the city on the account.

The audit is the latest finding against the city's Department of Human Services, which has been under scrutiny for chronic mismanagement of federal funds. Many of the department's leaders have departed since an internal investigation was launched last year, including an inquiry into the purchase of $182,000 worth of high-end furniture for a department office. In 2009, the department received more than $11 million in stimulus funding and created a service center.

That's okay, though, because good intentions are what really matters. According to the audit, the DHS grant was supposed to help 400 people. You see, it's just that the funds were mismanaged.

400 people. That comes out to $27,500.00 per person. See, it was a good plan. It was just mismanaged.

Nothing criminal here. Move along.

Pat yourselves on the backs, morons. Yesterday's exercise of packing the reviews of his book hit pay dirt.

As some of you are probably aware, I tweeted something rather rude upon learning the news of Andrew Breitbart's death. Consequently, many of his many fans are unhappy with me. Fair enough. In consequence of that, many of them have decided to spam the Amazon page for The Rent Is Too Damn High with highly negative reviews that typically reveal that the reviewer has not even made a passing acquaintance with my views.

Boo-effing-hoo.

Y'know, Matt, unlike lefties who can't accept a sincere apology, this wouldn't have happened if you had apologized for that tweet. But no apology's forthcoming, is it? That's only expected of conservatives.

As LauraW. said in an email this morning: "We think they're wrong. They think we're evil. We're playing to not lose, occasionally playing to win, by the rules. They're playing to destroy us, utterly, however they can."

Precisely.

So for starters in fighting back against this, there are three people who need to be mercilessly hounded at every available opportunity for their reactions to Breitbart's death and for just being asshats in general. First and foremost is David Frum, followed by Matt Taibbi and Yglesias.

None of these punks should expect anything other than an attack lurking around every corner. So if you haven't had a chance yet, go and give Matt's book an appropriate review.

I wasnÂ’t expecting 20 pages filled with naked pictures of the author in various poses. I found the photos that included animals to be in extremely poor taste.

Yesterday was Andrew Breitbart's funeral. Due to concerns about disruptions by the left, I was told not to say anything. They seemed to not even want the day confirmed.

I spent Monday packing and Tuesday traveling (and at the service).

I won't be blogging today, as it will also be a travel day. And also, I forgot my laptop's power cord. Which I hope will only require a trip to Best Buy to fix.

I apologize for the slack. But I felt I had to come out and say goodbye.

Thank you for understanding. And thanks to the cobloggers who keep this stupid blog running, despite my general awfulness.

Buck Up Lil Campers - The GOP Is Not Doomed in 2012

I know that DOOM and hemlock mojitos are the trendy drinks these days around the HQ, but there are some good reasons to believe the fundamentals favor the GOP candidate this election.

Indeed, this is why I prefer simpler models that Teixeira conveniently avoids.  The "Bread and Peace" model from Douglas Hibbs uses only two variables (real disposable personal income per capita and military fatalities in unprovoked wars).  That model's results last month were not encouraging for Obama, even if you modify the model to give him credit as the incumbent.  Since then, real disposable income has fallen.

Among newer models, there is the "Nowcast," from professors Charles Tien of and Michael Lewis-Beck, who have done a fair amount of work in this area.  The Nowcast is based largely on the National Business Index (NBI), which the authors define as the percentage of respondents who say "business conditions are better" minus the percentage of respondents who say "business conditions are worse," as measured in the national University of Michigan Survey of Consumers.  This NBI, measured in April six months before the November election, correlates highly with incumbent vote share since 1980.  The most recent Nowcast (.pdf) - just one month from April - has Obama at 47.4%, which not only projects an Obama loss but one outside the average overall model error of 2.2%.

And this is taking into account the standard GOP stupidity and fuckuppery. So we have that going for us.

But hey if you just enjoy the tangy taste of hemlock and and the warm buzz of a KCN chaser, don't let me spoil all the fun.

UPDATE #2-- Looks like I blew ND but hardly enough polling there. Also blew margins in two states but still called correctly. Ohio saw a turnout (with votes still to be counted) of over 1.2 million, meaning there was a 10% jump in turnout over 2008. Some hay has been made over where Romney won. The Santorum areas are not going to go to Obama. The Romney areas will. That Romney got the turnout needed in Dem-dominated areas bodes well if he is the nominee in November, though he badly needs to shore up support with the Republican base to ensure turnout does not drop in the rural parts of the state. One more thought. A lot of snark today about how Romney only barely won OH after spending oodles of cash against the not-Mitts. Romney, for the whole primary thus far spare the last four days, always polled behind here. Sometimes by large double digit margins (in the case of Gingrich and Santorum, he polled -16 against each of them). That he still squeeked it out can be taken in a hundred ways, but let's not pretend it was his to lose all along. more...
