— Ace He uses the term "unmitigated disaster" but we know what he meant to say.
"I can't think of a time when I felt it was more important for us to defeat an incumbent president today with respect to Barack Obama. I think he has been an unmitigated disaster to the country," Cheney said at the Wyoming Republican Party state convention in Cheyenne on Saturday.
Half-baked thought: Leading public opinion consists of leading the public by a matter of months. People who said Obama was a disaster on the first day of his presidency (or before) were right, and yet by and large ignored by the 65% who, early on, supported Obama. They just couldn't follow our thinking.
We were right. But they were right too, in the sense of "right" meaning "stupid."
At any rate, they thought they were right and we were crazy.
High-ranking Republican officials and dignitaries mostly haven't spoken like Cheney does here, a summary, a judgment. They have attacked this or that, or underscored his poor performance on gas prices or energy policy or so forth, but they haven't, largely rendered a "failure" judgment on the whole shebang.
Maybe that's to the good. Maybe if we were doing that for a year or two, the public would be immunized against it and say "Ho hum, same thing as usual, just like Obama's bleatings."
It would now be about the time to pour it on. Or at least very close to that point.

When you tell them that youÂ’re going to extend healthcare to people who donÂ’t now have it, they donÂ’t see how you can do that without hurting them. So I think he underestimated, as did Clinton, the sensitivity of people to what they see as an effort to make them share the healthcare with poor people."
They don't see how you can do that without hurting them because you can't do that without hurting them. ObamaCare relies at its heart on those with good health insurance giving up a part of their health care -- and yet still paying for that insurance -- for those who have no health insurance.
"Sharing" sounds good for those without. It's not such a good deal for those with.
There's no way to get around this basic fact, and 90% of Obama's and the Democrats' misrepresentations on ObamaCare have consisted of offering various arguments denying the obvious.

From the perfect visual he served up with his missed three pointers to the institutional breakdown of the not-so-Secret Service to focusing on priorities like being Michelle's own personal Fodor's on the taxpayers' dime there was no shortage of embarrassment for the administration. Throw in Hilary (Who?) Rosen's crass attack on Ann Romney and stay-at-home-moms in general and the other Hillary following the administration's "Party All the Time" motto in Colombia, and there was already enough material to keep the RNC ad guys busy from now 'til November.
But then the coup de grace was delivered by David Axelrod's stumping for the GOP nominee:
The choice in this election is between an economy that produces a growing middle class and that gives people a chance to get ahead, and their kids a chance to get ahead, and an economy that continues down the road weÂ’re on.
Couldn't have said it better myself, Axe. All Team Obama really ever had was running for "change" (and against George W. Bush). It shouldn't be a surprise that they're going to keep going to that well even though it's bone dry. more...

Overthinking and Your Child-Like Mind
This is a test that supposed to show how sometimes knowing too much leads to overthinking and keeps you from solving problems creatively. Now I don't really believe this to be true except for superficial levels of knowledge about something. But after two or three minutes pondering this puzzle I decided I probably was overthinking it and took a break. When I came back, I saw the answer in about 30 seconds.
Oh and the article's anecdote about NASA being too uncreative to use pencils in space is pretty much all bullshit. The engineers at NASA weren't stupid and there were good reasons for switching over to pens instead.

— CAC I was going to do a review of Burger King's Bacon Sundae, as I have already reviewed it's evolutionary ancestor at Denny's, but as I am stuck on Atkins, I had to think more outside of the box.
As a man fascinated by both infinite regression and bacon, I have often wondered how many baconbaconbaconlayers one could achieve. I am not the first man to think of this:
But I am curious if a practical baconbaconbaconbaconbaconbaconbacon or higher is possible. Much like the riddle of how many times you can fold a piece of paper, is there a real limit to how much bacon can go within bacon? I'll open the floor to the morons in my quest to achieve the highest practical layer of baconx possible; and I will cook, eat, and review it here on a future bacon thread. In case you doubt my digestive abilities, I remind you I made my own bacon latte with a substance that shall forever haunt my better half's memory, "bacon-milk".
For clarity, the ideal bacon-within-bacon would use as many different kinds of bacon as possible, without the end product falling apart.

But anyway, in a contest sponsored by the British National Army Museum (I love military museums and my favorite one is at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton Ohio), George "Mofo" Washington topped the Zulus and the Nazis in a poll which asked the question "who was the baddest sonofabitch we ever fought with?"
Runners up included some guy from the IRA in the early part of the 20th century, the Zulus who wiped two regiments out in an hour or so at Islandwana (where does Zulu time from from you ask? Respect. That's where), Erwin Rommel and Napoleon.
Little known factoid, the Brits were engaged in several major conflicts around the globe during the American Revolution.
