Romney’s gamble is that in the midst of an economic downturn, voters are ready to accept Ryan’s prescription for fixing the federal budget, in particular his proposals for reforming Medicare. Romney and Ryan are right that major changes need to be made, and at some point the voting public will accept that view, too. That day is coming. The question is whether it will arrive by November 6.Of course Team Obama says it is delighted with Romney’s choice, because they believe they can destroy Ryan’s plan, and in the process the Romney-Ryan candidacy. And it seems likely that at the very least choosing Ryan has made winning Florida a little harder for Romney — and if Romney doesn’t win Florida, he doesn’t become president. What Democrats are overlooking is that Ryan is a truly formidable figure. He not only knows his stuff, he is able to communicate his ideas in a persuasive and appealing way. There’s a very good chance voters will like him. Democrats love to portray Republicans as angry. They won’t be able to do that with Ryan, who doesn’t give off even a hint of anger.
But the fact remains that there has never before been a national debate about entitlements like the one that is coming in this presidential campaign. Mitt Romney has decided itÂ’s time for that debate, and that he can win it. ThatÂ’s the biggest bet of his candidacy, by a long shot.

Well, at lot of you probably missed this the other day as it involves Rachel Maddow and MSNBC but it really highlights why too many folks out in the general public are stuck on stupid as it is not just MSNBC that does this. Rachel Maddow's Misleading Report On Fracking.
She began her segment with that favorite boogeyman of the progressive anti-nuclear left, Three Mile Island, saying, "People began to feel like whatever its potential upside was, it was maybe too dangerous to be worth it to pursue more nuclear power."Yes, that's true, but it's because of people like Rachel Maddow.
Three Mile Island was indeed scary, but it was nowhere near the catastrophe the anti-nuclear movement made it out to be. In fact, the natural background radiation posed a bigger threat to the residents than the small amount of radioactive gas that was purposefully vented following the meltdown. Did Maddow remind her viewers of that fact? No.
Clearly fearmongering, she went on to explain that powerful images are what cause people to turn against allegedly dangerous sources of energy. She then proceeded to show the now infamous footage of some guy in Colorado lighting his tap water on fire, and of course, she tied these images to natural gas drilling. Did she mention the University of Texas study which concluded that methane in water wells was probably natural and likely was present in the water prior to shale gas operations? No.
Until we clear out this BS that masquerades as journalism and get some honest reporting on energy and climate issues, we are going to continue to have energy problems. Look at nuclear power. The NRC This Week Has Put Nuclear Licensing Decisions On Hold due to fears over storage concerns. Hey, what about Yucca Mountain? Oh wait, that plan has been put on hold. Obama Promises To Close Yucca Mountain and Romney Tries To Remain Neutral. All this going on while California Braces For Power-Grid Test During Heat Wave. Hopefully we won't become India before it's too late. more...

— Ace One reason I'm sort of biased against the Nolan movies is that the Animated show and the subsequent animated movies are so good.
Downloadable from Amazon for like $2.99 or something is Batman: Under the Red Hood, from a year or two ago. I watched it expecting little and wound up being nicely surprised.
A long time ago Batman had a second Robin. The first Robin had split off to be his own superhero, Nightwing. The second Robin, Jason Todd, was generally disliked by the fans. DC did a nasty little stunt-- they wrote a plotline in which Joker apparently murders Jason Todd, and asked readers to call in (paying $0.50 a call, of course) to vote on whether to Keep Him or Kill Him.
They voted to kill him. And DC did.
Under the Red Hood is about this incident, or, rather, the aftermath of it.
They did something comic books always do -- they brought Jason Todd back. But it's one of the few times All Is Forgiven because it's a pretty neat storyline. As to how he came back -- well, I won't spoil it, but it makes sense (in the comic book universe of Batman, anyhow).
And when Jason Todd came back, he came back angry. Angry at violent criminals, and angry at Batman, whose coddling, morally weak non-lethal manner of dealing with violent crime resulted in his own death. Although the Joker is a major character in it, the main conflict is between Batman and Jason Todd's vigilante alter-ego, the Red Hood, and it's actually pretty well done.
They took a lame, unpopular character and made him pretty interesting.
Below is a clip from one of the last scenes in the feature. It's kind of stupid to include such a late scene -- spoilers -- but I really like it.
If you have any interest in this movie, though, don't watch past 2:00. Just watch the first two minutes to see if you like the central conflict here. If you watch past that, you kind of just watched the whole end of the movie.
I never was a big fan of Batman and Robin, but somehow Batman Versus Robin is pretty compelling.

— Ace Updates: Two things. First, Drudge over-reads Costa. Drudge's headline says a Romney chartered plane is waiting for takeoff near Ryan's hometown in Wisconsin. That's not what Costa says -- just that it's a chartered plane.
Second, apparently Ryan is non-denying this story by telling people "But I'm on vacation next week." Or words to that effect. Well, that's not a very strong denial. And also, that vacation is part of the reason people suspect Ryan is the nominee. You know, good timing. Schedule is clear. No other commitments interfering with any new demands that might suddenly fall to him.

Update: Not True?
— Ace As of yet Mike Flynn only has this from "sources," so it's not actually confirmed.
At first, the idea seemed like something out of fiction. No, weirder than that, because even Aaron Sorkin couldn't come up with such a convoluted plot device. But, the information came to me from a very high-ranking Republican official who assured me the information came from "very credible sources."
This dovetails with a Politco report that the DNC will feature prominent Republicans.
I don't want to link Politico, but I have to suggest giving that article a read. The Democrats are planning a very negative and hard-hitting convention. I hope the Republicans have a counter to that. And although I'm not the Guy Who's Necessarily Against Gauzy Uplift, I don't know if Gauzy Uplift is going to be enough when you have three days of the Democrats portraying you as Hannibal Lecter.
Update: Bad Tip? I'm told Huntsman's daughters are denying the claim that their dad will speak at the convention, and Drudge has also removed a link to this story, seemingly indicating his skepticism about it.

— Gabriel Malor The New York Daily News has started a new election blog, the Rumble, and yours truly will be posting there a couple times a day. Some eagle-eyed commenters in the morning post spotted it when it went up.
Today I had posts on Obama's love-hate relationship with negative SuperPAC ads, and some push back against the silly liberal idea that alternative energy isn't getting enough subsidies.
The Rumble will have three conservatives (SE Cupp, Derek Hunter, and me), three liberals (Michael Cohen, John McWhorter, and Zerlina Maxwell) and an independent-ish (Josh Greenman), and we will, allegedly, rumble.
Feel free to stop by and show the NYDN's commenters what real internet morons are made of.
