In other news, the EU plans to fine Microsoft $700M dollars because European users are apparently too stupid to figure out they can download other browsers for free. Porn and bootleg software? Mad skilz baby, mad skilz. Browsers? Not so much...huh? what? where am I? what is this thing, why does it beep? Help, I've fallen down and can't get up.
The fine works out to around $50 for each machine in violation that was shipped by OEM's. The EU says they're cutting Microsoft a bargain cuz they could have been fined $7B, or $500/machine. Either way, its a pretty harsh shakedown caused by Euro-users (apparently) being lemming like incompetent imbeciles who are unaware other stuff exists. Its truly a wonder they manage to find the power switch...or maybe the EU sends out specially trained techs to turn on computers for people?

Ted Gundy was a US Army sniper during WWII. Two years ago at age 84 during a visit to Ft. Benning he was awarded a 'black hat' by the U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit.
They also gave him a chance to shoot a 1903 Springfield A4 similar to the one he used during the war as well as a modern sniper rifle at the base's range. And he showed that he's still got it when it comes to shooting.
Ted Gundy, an 86-year-old World Wat [sic] II sniper, was awarded the "black hat," one of the highest awards of the marksmanship unit, during his visit to Ft. Benning, Ga. He got a few other surprises along the way.He was presented with an exact replica of the rifle he used during the Battles of the Buldge [sic] and Bastogne, a 1903 Springfield A4 sniper rifle. It must have seemed like old home week as he hit the target - three hits for three shots - at three hundred yards - three football fields.
He was then given the opportunity to try modern equipment on a target 1,000 yards away. The Remington 700 is, according to the video, "one of the most accurate rifles in the world."
At 1,000 yards, for every mile per hour of crosswind, the bullet moves 10 inches. Just like with the WWII-era Springfield at 300 yards, Gundy hit three for three with the Remington at 1,000.
You do not want Ted Gundy ever coming after you.

Gabrielle Giffords' Husband Doesn't Want You To Have An AR-15
But he apparently bought one for himself completely by accident on the way out of a gun store. Or something. Maybe they were just on his mind since he's been talking about how evil they are.
Mark E. Kelly, gun-control proponent and husband to former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, recently purchased an AR-15 (an "assault weapon," he called it)—which he now says he intended as an illustration of the need for more stringent gun laws.
The related Facebook post of his, made after he knew he'd been caught, is hilarious.
Looks like the judiciary committee will vote on background checks next week. I just had a background check a few days ago when I went to my local gun store to buy a 45. As I was leaving, I noticed a used AR-15. Bought that too. Even to buy an assault weapon, the background check only takes a matter of minutes. I don't have possession yet but I'll be turning it over to the Tucson PD when I do. Scary to think of people buying guns like these without a background check at a gun show or the Internet. We really need to close the gun show and private seller loop hole.
Wow. I guess when they set up the "instant background check" system, they really meant "instant". I know that's unexpected for the government, but it actually does perform as advertised most of the time.
Is Kelly saying there's something in his background a longer check would uncover? Is he saying that a background check for an "assault weapon" should be different than one for a handgun? I mean, he only has one background and I'm really struggling to understand the problem with a system that should indicate he was clear to buy the guns returning the correct answer too quickly.
Oh, wait ... he's just an asshat throwing out a weaselly excuse after he got caught doing something he now finds embarrassing. Got it.
Do NOT Stray From The Plantation
Your average black guy can't be a 2nd Amendment supporter, says a rich, black, liberal guy.
Colion Noir, a young African American who is conservative and pro-gun, is the National Rifle Association's newest spokesman, but apparently this has proven too much for rap and entertainment mogul Russell Simmons.
I'm sorry. Mr. Simmons, that the uppity Mr. Noir apparently doesn't find life on the left's plantation all that fulfilling.

Surely you morons can add to this list. Top 10 Sequester Cuts To Hit The White House.
1. Obama to begin drinking Poland Spring instead of Fiji water.2. BidenÂ’s nanny no longer paid to work weekends.
Everything must be taxed for the good of the planet. Washington State Democrats want Bicycles To Be Taxed For Causing Global Warming. Seriously?
Orcutt’s main support for the tax comes from his belief that riding a bicycle is worse than driving a car for the environment.more...“A cyclists [sic] has an increased heart rate and respiration. That means that the act of riding a bike results in greater emissions of carbon dioxide from the rider. Since CO2 is deemed to be a greenhouse gas and a pollutant, bicyclists are actually polluting when they ride,” he said.

"Well, Bless Your Heart!"
Good morning morons and moronettes and welcome to the amazing Sunday Morning Book Thread.
Sisterhood You Guys
Did any of you morons know that Friday was International Women's Day? I'll bet you didn't. It passed with nary a mention on this fine blog, so I figured I needed to pick up the slack.
I thought I'd celebrate International Women's Day by highlighting the works of one of the most intelligent, talented, insightful, accomplished women alive today. This is precisely the kind of woman the feminist movement holds up for praise, demanding our respect.
I'm speaking, of course, of Phyllis Schlafly.
Ann Coulter devoted a 2002 column to this amazingly accomplished woman, which I am drawing on heavily for this thread.
This is for starters:
She was nearly the first woman ever to attend Harvard Law School – though it did not then admit women, Schlafly's Harvard professors found her so brilliant that they offered to make an exception for her. (She declined.) Instead, she married, raised six amazingly accomplished children and later attended law school in her 50s – all while fighting the establishment in her free time
She helped launch Barry Goldwater's presidental run with her 1964 book A Choice, Not An Echo, which sold 3 million copies, and Coulter argues that this clarion call against the Northeast 'Rockefeller' Republicans paved the way for Reagan's eventual ascendancy.

— Ace Searching (per Dr. Spanks's suggestion) for websites collecting obscure words, I found a bunch, including The Gradiloquent Dictionary and the Luciferous Logolepsy. ("Luciferous" there meaning, as it does in the Fallen Angel's old name, "Bearing light" or "illuminating").
From the first I found this useful word:
eleutherophobia -- fear of freedom
I also found this essay by Will Self on "fast culture," a term he uses for fast-food style culture or education.
Oh, and here's something I found last week: "nonce word," a word invented "for the nonce" and not expected to be used again. A nonce word is an invented non-word where you can still tell what it means, because it's combining real words and suffixes and prefixes and such. For example I just insulted Jake Tapper's cat as "fat, entitled, and dandrous," dandrous being a made-up word for "full of dander."
Now that I know this is A Thing and not just a mistake I make, I'm going to be doing it more. I feel liberated, knowing this is A Thing I'm allowed to do.
(It's possible dandrous really is a word, if you look it up in the Oxford Unabridged Dictionary, but who has one of those? Not me.)

— Gang of Gaming Morons! Afternoon M&M's! I hope everyone's Sunday is proceeding well, despite losing an hour of rack time.
If you sent me stuff to post, don't worry! I think next week we'll do an all Reader Submission Gaming Thread. I just don't want to turn this into a "Wall of Text" where no one will really see your hard work.
Walking Dead sidebar. I purchased both the Compendiums and am working my way through them. They aren't bad, but I have definitely preferred the series over the book. My comic book nerd friend says the books get better, so we'll see. Looking forward to tonight's episode.
