Ace of Spades Blog Started the Tea Party Movement?

So says P. Henry Saddleburr:

I know that this or that individual have taken credit for the formation of the Tea Party Movement, but it was Ace of Spades Blog that started the Moron Meetups that actually created the infrastructure that culminated in the Tea Party phenomenon.

I'll warn you that Ace of Spades Blog is an adult blog, full of bad language and questionable subject matter, but it's one of the best conservative blogs out there.  And it's damned funny, too boot.

Ace affectionately refers to his readers as 'Ace of Spades Morons' and his politcal allies as the 'Moronosphere'.

Ace used to gather with his Moronosphere in NYC, but not everybody could make the journey, so a commenter proposed regional 'Moron Meetups'.

Commenter Blankminde created the ability for these Moron Meetups to be registered on a national map and soon they blossomed in every city in the country.

...The bottom line is, once Rick Santelli had his rant, it was a call to arms and a dog whistle to the Ace of Spades Morons.  I know that 3 AOS Morons were heavily involved in the creation of the Richmond Tea Party.  I suspect that other Morons were key players in their own Tea Parties across the country.

Thanks, Ace.  Your blog has created life long friends and no, it wasn't Ron Paul or Michelle Bachmann or even Freedom Works who created the Tea Party Movement.  Sure.  They all helped.

But it was AOS Morons who started their movements, city by city, block by block.

It was Ace of Spades Morons.

I don't know - the Tea Party protests seemed to pop up spontaneously and as I recall there wasn't a lot of planning for them going on in the comments. On the other hand I can't think of another conservative blog that has the community that AoSHQ does where commenters regularly meet up in the real world. So who knows maybe the Moron Horde really were a proto-skeleton for the movement.

Oh and your completely random IRS audits will be coming along shortly. Congrats.

The Only Battle Fought on American Soil in WWII: The Battle of Attu
— Dave in Texas

May 11-30, 1943.

The only battle of WWII fought on American soil, the Japanese forces likely moved on the Aleutians as a diversion from the battle that took place at Midway. But they took and held Attu and Kiska for a year. American forces moved on them to retake the islands in 1943. Sixty* Seventy years ago we took them back.

tumblr_melcozjnxZ1qixjkro1_500 (370x450).jpg

A young Army private was awarded the Medal of Honor in this fight. His citation:

In the face of severe hostile machinegun, rifle, and mortar fire, Pvt. Martinez, an automatic rifleman, rose to his feet and resumed his advance. Occasionally he stopped to urge his comrades on. His example inspired others to follow. After a most difficult climb, Pvt. Martinez eliminated resistance from part of the enemy position by BAR fire and hand grenades, thus assisting the advance of other attacking elements. This success only partially completed the action.

I can't add anything to that.

Hi there, Morons and Moronettes. I'm tmi3rd, and we're going to do things a little differently with this year's group of hockey threads.

We're going to keep them on the weekends. This will keep from clogging up what's been a pretty busy news period.

Today's games are (3) WAS vs (6) NYR at 4:30 EDT on CNBC, (4) BOS vs (5) TOR at 7:30 EDT on NBC Sports, and (7) DET vs (2) ANA at 10:30 EDT on NBC Sports.

Gun Thread (5-12-2013)

Every Time The Mask Slips

An NJ senator was caught on a hot mic saying they needed a bill that was going to confiscate guns and demeaning the efforts of gun rights groups that want to focus on effective crime prevention measures.

The discussion reveals absolute contempt for the Second Amendment and those who exercise it, as well as complete ignorance of the fact that gun rights organizations like ANJRPC have long advocated for clear and specific legislation punishing criminals who misuse firearms, instead of misguided legislation (like the bills currently being pushed by Senate Democrats) that demonizes hardware.

The bill's being considered tomorrow. If you're in NJ, you might want to lob in a call to your senator.

Westford MA Anti-Gun Selectman Unceremoniously Dumped

You may remember this story from a few months back, when a loony left selectman proposed an "assault weapons" and magazine ban in the wake of Newtown. The resulting backlash kept the ban from moving forward, but it seems the good citizens of Westford weren't quite done.

Jefferies [the gun grabber --andy], who has served the town for more than 20 years, received the least number of votes -- 1,206.

Also from here in MA, the Town of Sudbury soundly defeated an anti-2A town bylaw proposal, and the Massachusetts Gun Owner's Action League (GOAL) is seeing significant membership growth.

Lesson for progtards everywhere: you mess with the bull, you get the horns.

Sunday Morning Book Thread 05-12-2013: Steampunk Barbecue Edition [OregonMuse]
— Open Blogger

steampunk BBQ grill.jpg

This was put together by some foundry workers in Russia. I wouldn't mind having it in my backyard, though.

Good morning morons and moronettes and welcome to the the award-winning AoSHQ's Sunday Morning Book Thread.

The AoSHQ Amazon Store

I've been very neglectful of this because I couldn't be bothered to figure out how to make it work. If you click ace's Amazon Store link in the upper right corner of the main page (the link that says The AoSHQ Amazon Store), it will take you to an Amazon page emblazoned with the AoSHQ logo, and there's some books listed that you can buy. But I don't know how to add new books to the list. If you know the title of your book, you can enter it in the search bar in the upper right corner of and it will call up that book in the AoSHQ store. But if you're browsing around Amazon, it's easy to exit the AoSHQ store, and you won't be notified when you do. So when you finally come upon a book you want to buy, you need to go back to the beginning and enter the title in AoSHQ store seach bar.

Or, if you prefer, you can do it with a little bit of link-fu:

The beginning of any link to any item in the AoSHQ store is going to look like this:

http://astore.amazon.com/aoshq-20/detail/

Now, a typical Amazon book link is big and long. Here's an example:

http://www.amazon.com/Puritan-Gift-The-ebook/dp/B006OO7OZU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1368244437&sr=8-1&keywords=the+puritans+gift

In this long link, there's something that looks like an identifying number that occurs right after the '/dp/' part, which is 'B006OO7OZU'. Simply add this identifier to the the 'base' address of the AoSHQ store, and you'll get this:

http://astore.amazon.com/aoshq-20/detail/B006OO7OZU

If you click on that link, you'll see the book inside the AoSHQ store, and if you buy it, Amazon will contribute a few pennies to ace to help defray his not inconsiderable Valu-Rite expenses.

I'm kicking myself for not doing this earlier. Sorry, ace. From now on, I'm going to try to make all my book links go through the ace store.

Let's start on these new links with Celia 'Sgt. Mom' Hayes' brand new book Air Force Daze which is so new, it isn't even up on her web page, yet. Amazon describes it as

Being a True Account of 20 Years in the Big Blue Machine: With Reminiscences, Rants, Memos and Accounts of Divers Amusing Incidents!

Collected from the archives of the milblog The Daily Brief (formerly Sgt. Stryker's Daily Brief) an assortment of informational briefs, memos, rants and reminiscences by Sgt. Mom

Celia also writes historical fiction, including To Truckee's Trail. This is a story about the The Stephens-Townsend-Murphy wagon train party, which

crossed the continent in 1844, blazing a trail through the wilderness from Ft. Hall in present-day Idaho, across the high desert and over the Sierra Nevada range to Sacramento; two thousand miles across unknown, trackless wilderness on a gamble that life at the end of the trail would be better. This is the story of their journey, every dusty mile and hard choice, and of an extraordinary group of ordinary Americans.

And if that weren't enough, there's her 'Adelsverein' trilogy about German settlers in Texas:

Adelsverein: The Gathering
Adelsverein: The Sowing
Adelsverein: The Harvesting

Or, you can get them in all in one volume:

Adelsverein: The Complete Trilogy

So buy Sgt. Mom's books and send a few farthings to ace. Midget porn doesn't buy itself, you know. more...

IRS Officials Knew Conservative Groups Were Targeted
— Slublog

Well, isn't this interesting.

Among the other revelations, on Aug. 4, 2011, staffers in the IRS’ Rulings and Agreements office “held a meeting with chief counsel so that everyone would have the latest information on the issue.”

On Jan, 25, 2012, the criteria for flagging suspect groups was changed to, “political action type organizations involved in limiting/expanding Government, educating on the Constitution and Bill of Rights, social economic reform/movement,” the report says.

Hey, maybe the IRS is just defining "low-level" differently than you or I would:
Read the Hot Air link to see how serious these charges are. (Spoiler Alert: Nixon.)

Time to check the official AOSHQ Shit Status on this story: more...
