Jake The Snake Plummer Honors Pat Tillman Against NFL Rules
— Ace

Says that if he's fined, he'll take his fine "like a man"

Nick sends this story over.

Asked recently about Plummer's sticker, NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league's long-standing policy prohibits personal messages on uniforms or helmets. Violators could face fines of $5,000.

"I'll get fined," Plummer said. "I'll take my fine like a man."

He said he would ask the NFL to give the fine money to the Pat Tillman Foundation, which was set up to honor him after his death.

It's just a small gesture, and it can't bring Tillman back to us, nor help win the peace in Afghanistan.

But really, a lot of what's good in life is just small gestures.

Sort of like that Miami Vice episode with Glenn Frye (the first one-- Smuggler's Blues), where Rico doesn't have a clean undershirt to go with his banana-yellow zoot suit, and Crocket just opens up his t-shirt drawer and says, "Here, man. Take mine. We're gonna need to look sharp when we meet Reyes about the drop."

And then he sticks his pinky into a bag of coke and tastes it and says, "Mmm. Pure Columbian snow."

Picture removed due to over-high draw on bandwidth. Sorry!

Thanks to someone I'm not sure I can credit, because he wants to be anonymous.

Yet Another Teenage Photoshop: SobekPundit apparently still thinks Kerry's "Cambodian Covert Ops" tall-tale remains funny.

The thing is, I agree with him.

A Mitzvah in Miami?: Republicans Scoring With Jewish Voters In Florida
— Ace

Maybe they see that Kerry is a shande after all:

Jewish Democratic leaders in Palm Beach County are worried.

They are increasingly concerned that Republicans and the Bush administration have done such a good job of marketing themselves to Jewish voters that the once-reliable bloc of Democratic votes could go in a big way toward the president's re-election.

With 22 days until Election Day, Democrats are scrambling to undo gains Republicans have made among Jews.

...

"The Republicans have made major inroads with respect to Jewish voters," he told Democrats at a Palm Beach County party meeting last week. "If they get 40 percent, it would be devastating. If they get 30 percent they could win the election. We need to keep them under 20 percent."

Sid Dinerstein predicted President Bush would take one-third of the Jewish vote in Palm Beach County. He's the chairman of the county Republican Party, and for year's he's been pushing Bush to Jewish voters.

He said the Democrats have reason to be concerned, and said it involves far more than his party's and the president's ability to market themselves.

"They're scared to death," Dinerstein said. "From their perspective they should be scared because enough Jewish people have finally said, `You know what? This is serious. This isn't about who's paying for your prescription drugs.'"

Both sides agree Israel is the main reason for the weakening of Jewish support for Democrats.

Wow. Both sides are fuckin' geniuses, huh?

The Bush administration has strongly supported Israeli government actions and has aggressively courted the Jewish vote. Some are unsure about Kerry.

"They have to lie to say that Kerry is as good as Bush [on Israel]," Dinerstein said.

...

Although Dinerstein considers Israel vitally important, he said it's not the only reason for an erosion of Jewish support for Democrats.

He said it's a long-term phenomenon obscured in 2000 because the Democratic vice presidential nominee, U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman of Connecticut, was an Orthodox Jew.

"The Lieberman thing obscured a long-term trend," he said.

...

Last week, former New York Mayor Ed Koch was in Palm Beach County to whip up Jewish voters on behalf of Bush, and attracted hundreds to his speech.

Democrats brought in their own non-Florida Jewish celebrity last week: Jon Bauman.

He was "Bowzer," the singer dressed in black as the doo-wop group Sha Na Na sang 1950s hits during the '60s through the early '80s.

Bauman's solo act tours nationally.

Bowzer.

Fuckin' Bowzer. This is the guy who's going to whip up fucking votes in Florida.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: I don't care what the Gallup poll says, John Kerry couldn't get elected warden of monkey-prison with a wheelbarrow full of bananas and a lenient policy on flingin' excrement.

Florida Jews and Bush go together like...

It just feels right.

A Slight Change in Format
— Ace

Well, all that crazy Rathergate traffic is going away.

That being the case, I've decided to change this site into the site I always imagined it could be-- and would be.

The political stuff is interesting enough, I guess, if you're into that sort of thing. And all the little sarcastic remarks I do after news stories-- eh, occasionally amusing, but it's not where my heart is.

And where is my heart, you wonder?

Well, my heart is precisely where I left it, back in 1984-- back with a pair of hip, hot pastel-wearing detectives named Sonny Crocket and Rico Tubbs. Yes, I'm talking about Miami Vice, and if you've had the almost-erotic pleasure of watching this MTV-noir gem, you know I'm not exaggerating one iota when I proclaim the series to be the most perfect piece of drama captured on film in all of recorded human history.

It's not so much a detective series as a life's thesis, a sublime philosphical inquiry into the nature of man, of celebrity, and of absolutely rocking the house down with great songs by the AWESOME Phil Collins and even AWESOMER dude from The Eagles.

It's the politics of contraband,
it's the smugg-ler's blues...

For the rest of this blog's existence*, I will endeavor to be primarily a repository of all things Vice, including of course the spectacular Don Johnson rock album Heartbeat.

And, yeah, here and there I'll post about politics.

I hope you share my passion for Miami Vice, and I hope that, even if you don't, you'll take this cinematic, cybernetic journey with me just the same.

And I hope you'll swing with me to this rockin' Jan Hammer instrumental.

* Or at least I'll continue with this schtick until I become bored with the premise, which, quite frankly, I already half am.

Look, I barely remember this stupid fucking show. I sort of liked it when I saw it, but, for crying out loud, I was a kid. I didn't know any better. I thought fucking Vans were just too fucking cool. And I only think I watched like three episodes, before Edward James Olmos showed up with the fucking ninja sword, fucking everything up with his somber inertia.

This is one of those ideas that sounds really fucking funny to you when you've had one or eight Miller Lights. You know, like that whole "Smitty" fiasco. We'll see how it works out in the light of day.

And a great one, too. I really admire Winds of Change's work here-- good digest of most of the hot liberal-bias stories going around, with links aplenty.

The SwiftVets Aren't Playing
— Ace

Bill from INDC mentions their newest endorser, Col. "Bud" Day, Medal of Honor winner and POW.

Meanwhile, RedState both scores a blogging coup and also creates further "shadowy links" between the right wing blogosphere and the SwiftVets by being invited to watch the filming of the next SwiftVets ad.

The SwiftVets appear poised to hit hard:

We have agreed not to discuss details of this ad in advance. We can report that it will be the most crippling blow delivered so far from a group that almost certainly single-handedly derailed the initial momentum of the Kerry campaign in August.

And thanks to an overwhelming spontaneous deluge of gifts from fellow veterans and fellow citizens, Swift Boat Veterans for Truth are now financially prepared to buy enough airtime to have a real impact.

To those who say the Swift Boat charges have already done all the damage they can to Kerry and the campaign has moved on to other fronts, we say, wait until you see this ad!

Sure, sounds a little breathless and all, but I'm inclined to think this will at least be one of their stronger ads.

And this ad will have something the other ads didn't-- real money behind it, and real paid-media exposure.

Blogger "Symposium" at Right Wing News
— Ace

Frank from IMAO, Michele from ASV, Bill from INDC, and (ahem) lowly I all kibbitzed for an hour at John Hawkins' Right Wing News site. Oh yeah, he was "moderating," I guess you'd call it, although it was pretty unmoderated.

It was kind of like an AOL chat room with one woman and a dozen 16 year old boys, all of us trying to get out our best internet pick up lines. ("Baby, you so fine, your daddy must have had a shrouded T3 connection to download all that fine pixelation into your ass. You're l33t, sweets.")

Since I didn't have any good lines, I just kept to the background mostly, hoping the chick would notice the very interesting Morissey quote in my sigline.

And, to be fair, I guess it didn't help when I began asking people if they wanted to cyber.

The edited version looks sort of like something you can actually follow, though.

I made the admission that I've softened on Wonkette. I still don't think she's funny, but I do think that her daily news round-up is useful. Or it would be, if I read her site, which I almost always don't.

I didn't slip the f-word or even the douchebaggery-word past Hawkins. Damnit, that was half of my schtick.

Thanks big to Allah for suggesting me to Hawkins for this thing.

Unbelievable Oversight: Damnit, I wasn't prepared for the "which female bloggers do you read question," and I stupidly forgot to mention the wonderful Florida Cracker, who's not only a great blogger, but who's been a big cross-pollinator with this site since way back. Wayyyy back.

Way back, like to March.

I'm sorry, Florida. A mention on RWN would have been good for some exposure but I just completely brain-froze on it.

Update: John was kind enough to parenthetically correct my inconsiderate oversight. Thanks, man.

Damnit: New Gallup Shows Kerry Up By One Point
— Ace

Read it and weep. I know I am.

The USA Today/CNN/Gallup Poll gives Kerry a 49 to 48 percent lead over Bush among likely voters three weeks before the November 2 presidential election. A prior poll had given Bush a 54 to 40 percent edge in mid-September.

A majority of Americans polled, 49 percent, say they disapprove of the way Bush is handling the presidency, while 47 percent say they approve. In late September, 54 percent approved of Bush's handling of the job.

Kerry beats Bush on honesty (44 to 42 percent) and on which contender expresses himself more clearly (57 to 38 percent).

Still, 56 percent say Bush is a strong and decisive leader, while only 38 percent believe Kerry is a better leader.

Kerry's comeback comes on the heels of the first two presidential debates, both of which Kerry is considered to have won.

Ummm... considered by whom?

It's a rule: Liberal writers, hoping to hide the fact that they're expressing their own opinions, are addicted to the passive voice.

Sorry For the Slow-Downs

I should have apologized sooner for the site being down for most of Thursday. I don't know why that happened; most or all of Mu.Nu was down for a period.

Today's a little sketchy too. I'm sorry for that.

I try to avoid just linking Instapundit's links -- what's the point, really? almost everyone reads Instapundit -- but I have to link this.

Just in case anyone missed it.
