Aussies Annoyed by Terrorist-Supporting Thugs
— Harry Callahan

Apparently, some audacious Australians aren't too happy with some of their fellow citizens who not only support nine of their friends who were plotting attacks on a nuclear reactor, but also helped their cause by beating a camera man outside the court where the terrorists were being arraigned.

Imagine that.

Bill Richardson in '08?
— LauraW.

There is a rumor going around that a little country to our south called 'New Mexico' is actually one of our 50 States.
I know what you're thinking. That can't be right.

But after spending fourteen grueling hours of fact-checking, I have to conclude that this story appears to be grounded at least partly in fact. Don't hold me to it. Its still shaky.

The leader of that 'State,' or tiny Latin American nation, whichever it may be, is 'Governor' Bill Richardson.

Apparently this guy has signaled his intentions to run for President in our country in 2008:

At the annual Gridiron Dinner in Washington, D.C. -- and later on a trip to New Hampshire, Richardson got a lot of laughs when he made statements in two languages:

"No, I will not run for president," he said in English. Then, switching to Spanish, he added, "Seguro que sí, ¡voy a ser candidato!" ("Of course, I will be a candidate!")

In February, Associated Press political reporter Ron Fournier filed a story on possible 2008 contenders that said, "New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson has told party leaders he will run."

He's a Democrat, but the tax-cutting kind. He also seems to have half a clue about illegal immigration.

I'm feeling optimistic about 2008.
Hopefully, with Bush leaving office, the evil humor that has robbed Democrats of their senses will finally leave them.
And in the clear morning of sanity, perhaps they won't field a bunch of wacknuts like they did last time. They might even get behind somebody that appeals to most Americans.
Its still three years off. We shall see.

UPDATE: Sheesh you people. I'm not excited about having the guy as my President. I'm simply noting that he appears to have announced, and that he's nothing like the buffoons that stepped forward last time.
He may be bad news, but he's not a lunatic commie glue-sniffer like Kucinich.
Get off my tits.
The last time I saw you retards get this excited, it was because somebody was talking shit about LOTR. Calm down. Put some underwear on your head and have a scooby snack. There, there.

Mass-Murder's Popularity Takes A Hit
— Ace

Al Qaeda offered an "explanation" for its most recent butchery:

Then late at night it posted a second statement on the internet "to explain to Muslims part of the reason the holy warriors targeted these dens." It said it had ordered the suicide attacks on the hotels "only after becoming confident that they were centres for launching war on Islam and supporting the Crusaders' presence in Iraq and the Arab peninsula and the presence of the Jews on the land of Palestine."

A third statement on Friday also had a defensive tone. It said the bombers were four Iraqis, who had chosen the hotels "after a month of surveillance and information gathering".

Weddings are "centres for launching war on Islam"?

The genius intelligence agents of Al Qaeda apparently determined the bride's garter was intended to be tossed into the hands of a CIA operative. It contained a microchip explaining its plans to hypnotize Muslims using subliminal signals during broadcasts of Charles in Charge.

Zarqawi's Sister Arrested; Bomb Didn't Detonate
— Ace

Let's hope Andrew Sullivan gets his way and no one so much as raises his voice to this psychotic whore.

Let's see... she intended to blow herself up (along with scores of innocents). Seems to me a little arm-twisting would be far less injury than she intended to inflict on herself.

Army: "We Want Artificial Gills!"
— Ace

Well, like, who the hell doesn't?

Not a boy on the face of the earth who hasn't been dreaming about an artificial gill since he first saw Thunderball.

Actually, even cooler is the fact that the Navy wants to mimic sharks' electro-vision:

A shark doesn't use its eyes to find its next meal. It relies on jelly-filled canals inside its head to pick up on the tiny electrical charges that potential morsel makes when it flexes its muscles, or swims counter to the earth's magnetic fields.

It's a real-live sixth sense. And it's something the Navy would like to exploit as its sailors look for subs and mines in the crowded coastal waters.

As a guy, I thought I knew a lot about sharks. I took pride in knowing about sharks.

But this whole "electro-vision" thing, I just never heard about before. I thought everything was smell with them.

Barack Obama: No Reason For Extra Scrutiny For Young Male Arabs From Terrorist-Producing States
— Ace

...no need to look a little harder at their Visa applications. Treat them the same as Canadians and Swedes.

I didn't believe the hype, but now I'm a convert. Barack Obama surely is the future of the Democratic Party. Demagogic and dangerously stupid.

Hoax Call To McDonald's Results In Forced Nudity And Forced Sodomy
— Ace

I don't know how else to explain it. If that headline isn't clear, well, it's hard to digest this into just a few words.

Make sure you watch the video. Pretty horrifying, actually, but you also can't help laughing at the abject stupidity on display. At least until the sodomy part.

And that's when the argument starts-- should the guy who received the sodomy be charged with a crime? If that question doesn't seem to make sense, again, watch the video.

Just curious-- does anyone have an application to work at McDonald's? Who knew. You get past the deep-friers and it's like a cross between Plato's Retreat and some sub-dom Thunderdome, with Grimace playing the role of The Gimp.

Richard Posner: Too Much Welfare Attracts Malcontent Immigrants
— Ace

The New Editor digs up what seems a pretty prescient prediction of probable precognitive prognotistication:

Because the U.S. does not have a generous safety net--because it is still a nation in which the risk of economic failure is significant--it tends to attract immigrants who have values conducive to upward economic mobility, including a willingness to conform to the customs and attitudes of their new country. And because the U.S. does not have employment laws that discourage new hiring or restrict labor mobility (geographical or occupational), immigrants can compete for jobs on terms of substantial equality with the existing population. Given the highly competitive character of the U.S. economy, in contrast to the economies of Europe, employers cannot afford to discriminate against able workers merely because they are foreign and perhaps do not yet have a good command of English. By the second generation, most immigrant families are fully assimilated, whatever their religious beliefs or ethnic origins.

...

Advocates of the European model point to the pockets of poverty in the United States, but may not realize that poverty cannot be abolished without recourse to measures that produce the social pathologies that we observe in Europe. Social mobility implies the opportunity to fail. If society protects jobs, the employment opportunities of ambitious newcomers are reduced and they may end up at the embittered margin of society. Thus, it is not poverty that breeds extremism; it is social policies intended in part to eradicate poverty that do so, by obstructing exit from minority subcultures. If Muslims in European societies do not feel a part of those societies because public policy does not enable them to compete for the jobs held by non-Muslims--if instead, excluded from identifying with the culture of the nation in which they reside they perforce identify with the worldwide Muslim culture--some of them are bound to adopt the extremist views that are common in that culture. The resulting danger to Europe and to the world is not offset by long vacations.

Practically a premonition.

Read it all.

The Left's Patriotism Gap
— Ace

Gap? How about "gulf"? How about "yawning chasm"? How about "fathomless abyss to rival the void in Helen Thomas' head"?

Winds of Change reposts an article from last year:

I Started To Write About Veteran's Day...

...and to thank the veterans alive and dead for protecting me and mine.
And worried that what I wrote kept coming out sounding either too qualified or would be interpreted as being too nationalistic.

And I realized something about my own thinking, a basic principle I'll set out as a guiding point for the Democrats and the Left in general as they try and figure out the next act in this drama we are in.

First, you have to love America.

...

I don't get a clear sense that my fellow liberals feel the same way. And if so, why should ‘the folks’ follow them? Why are we worthy of the support of a nation that we don't support? So let me suggest an axiom for the New Model Democrats:

America is a great goddamn country, and we're going to both defend it from those who attack it and fight to make it better.

And for everyone who is going to comment and remind me that ‘all liberals already do that’…no they don't. Not when the chancellor has to intervene at U.C. Berkeley to get ‘permission’ for American flags to be flown and red-white-and-blue ribbons to be worn. Not when the strongest voices in liberalism give only lip service to responding to an attack on our own soil.

Loving this country isn't the same thing as jingoism; it isn't the same thing as imperialism; it isn't the same thing as blind support of the worst traits of our government or our people.

It starts with recognizing the best traits, and there are a hell of a lot of them. They were worth defending in my father's time, and they are worth defending today.

So thanks, veterans. Thanks soldiers and sailors and marines and airmen. Thanks for doing your jobs and I hope you all come home hale and whole, every one of you.

Half of the problem is that lefties are intellectually insecure and have been taught that patriotism is for stupid people. Determined to prove themselves non-stupid through an easy course (not everyone can split atoms, you know), they buy into the various signifiers of a high intellect promoted by their lefty heroes.

If it became Liberally Correct to wave flags and wear flag pins tomorrow -- if suddenly that denoted education, erudition, and progressive virtue -- you'd have seas of red, white, and blue in San Francisco.

Anti-patriots denigrate patriotism as empty-headed jingoism. But most of their antipatriotism is itself empty-headed, a trivial tribal signifier, a vapid fashion accessory informing the world that they are members of the smart set of Sneeches whose bellies defintely do not have stars upon thars.

Happy Veterans' Day: 23% of Public Wouldn't Give Iraq War Veterans a "Warm Reception"
— Ace

Just on FoxNews, a new FoxDynamic Poll. Question: How would you treat veterans of the Iraq War?

Give a war reception: 71%

Give a cool reception: 13%

Look the other way: 10%

Margin of error +/- 3%, conducted November 8-9.

Question the patriotism of anti-war critics? Doubt they "support the troops" as much as they claim (in between sniping at them for using white phosphorous "WMD" on civilians)?

What politics, do you suppose, those 23% might have?

And don't tell me those 23% don't represent "all" liberals. No, they don't. But they do represent the majority of liberals. Self-identifying liberals are something like 25-28% of this country; 23% is an awfully big chunk of that group.

So, let's put it in stark terms: almost half of all Democrats wouldn't warmly welcome Iraq War veterans, and, we can deduce, around 90% of lefties and self-identified liberals.

Do I question your patriotism? You're goddamned right I do.
