The ACLU and Others Doing a John Kerry Spiel
— Ace

First there were allegations of "torture" at Abu Ghraib. (Mind you, this "torture" did not cause me to lose any sleep.) Then there were incidents "tantamount to torture" at Guantanamo Bay. Now, the ACLU has released documents describing "abuse" of Iraqi "civilians" by the U.S. military, which were obtained as a result of a lawsuit they initiated. (My my, what else is new?)

The documents list dozens of allegations of abuse at American detention centers - the use of cigarettes to burn prisoners, aggressive dogs, electric shocks, sexual humiliation and beatings - that began at about the same time such acts were occurring at Abu Ghraib prison.

Furthermore, the Washington Post reports that five non governmental organizations also obtained army documents through lawsuits detailing the abuse of Iraqi "civilians." (The site requires registration, sorry.)

These liberal groups fail to grasp the fact that terrorists are not going around in military uniform. They dress as civilians, all the better to blend in and escape capture by coalition troops. So for me, this just shows how desperate these terrorist apologists are getting.

They also choose to ignore the fact that terrorists are not protected under the Geneva Convention, which only applies to a country's soldiers, in uniform, and hope that all Americans will do the same.

Marines on Fuckin' Notice
— Ace

At the UNPOPULIST we have this thing called "Ironic Mullocracy Bingo."

Nobody knows what the rules are, but the game seems to revolve around stuff like this:

"We are eagerly looking for the Americans commandos to come
to Iran since they are chicks which would rapidly be picked up by our
eagles
,” declared Iran’s Intelligence Minister, according to a report
from the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting service.

I - 9 ...  I - 9.

Jeff also has more on Sen. Kluxxer.

My contribution here.

Not Billion; BILLION! (WuzzaDem)

Are You Conservative features some coverage on Bush's latest request from The Daily Beanpile ('Where the Left meets the news and peels rubber like it was string cheese').

Good stuff. Read the whole thing here.

...Hoping to fund his utterly futile attempts to democratize the Middle East, and "save the world from tyranny," the flexin' Texan is going to ask Congress for yet ANOTHER 80 BILLION DOLLARS! Yes, you read it correctly: ANOTHER 80 BILLION DOLLARS! ...

Enviro-Wackos and The War on Terror
— Ace

First, the enviro-wackos got bent out of shape over the drilling for oil in parts of Alaska. Now the governor or New Mexico and the environmentalists are bellyaching over the decision by the Bush Administration to approve drilling for oil and natural gas in the federal lands at Otera Mesa.

The Interior Department's Bureau of Land Management (BLM) said energy companies will be closely monitored and only 1,589 acres will be disturbed from well pads, roads and pipelines, which is less than one-tenth of 1 percent of the area's total 2 million acres located in the south-central portion of New Mexico on the Texas border.

For this, they're getting hysterical?

The agency will permanently protect almost 36,000 acres of grassland having the highest potential as habitat for the endangered Aplomado falcon, and drilling will not be allowed on a total of 124,000 acres.

Quite magnanimous, since we're fighting a war on terror, and anything we can do lessen our dependence on oil from the Middle Eastern rogue states is a plus. So I just can't understand why people are worried about the fate of the Aplomado Falcons at a time like this.

But then again, on my site, I've blogged about moonbatts in Manhattan who were protesting the removal of a hawk's nest from the cornice of a chic chic coop building overlooking Central Park. And as a result, I've become known as the Hawk Girl.

Oy, some things just never change.

"We are men and we don't make a big deal over our scars." [Dave at Garfield Ridge]
— Ace

While carrying the burden of his nation's hopes, Viktor Yushchenko must also carry the burden of painful disfigurement:

Viktor Yushchenko, the newly elected president of Ukraine, said he still has not come to terms with his disfigured face resulting from a poison he was administered during his campaigning on a pro-West ticket.

"Frankly, I can't get used to this face, and I don't think I ever will get used to it," he told a media conference in Strasbourg after addressing the parliament of the 46-member state Council of Europe.

"But," he added, "we are men and we don't make a big deal over our scars."

No sense in complaining, I guess; especially since it's now a badge of honor. No concentrated industrial poison is gonna bring this MoFo down!

Besides, it doesn't look *that* bad-- Yush now looks like Perry King crossed with Edward James Olmos. I hear some chicks dig that.

About Yushchenko's would-be assassins, I think Ace said it best: Bastards.

Cheers,

Did I Hear This Right?
— Ace

OK, it was late, and I was nodding off, but I could swear I heard this at the end of a Viagra commercial last night:

"In the unlikely event that an erection lasts more than four hours, be sure to call your friends and brag about it."

Are there really people out there that are so stupid they wouldn't know this?

A Little Late Lovin' For A Friend.
— Ace

Sobekpundit, *the* Photoshopping Madman of the 21st Century, posted an inspired series of variations on Darth Tater. Problem is, he did it a week ago.

Alas, Sobek knows that even a brilliant idea is a wasted idea when no links your blog.

So, in kinship with the bloggers who spend hours writing, reviewing and editing their perfect posts only to find out that, sadly, no one really gives a flyin' frak what they thought about the premiere of Battlestar Galactica. . .

In kinship with the girl who once stood three people behind Paul Anka in line at the DMV but still couldn't get her story published on Ace, no matter how hard he tried. . .

In kinship with the 1,823rd blogger in a row to make a joke using the punchline "like Michael Moore at an Old Country Buffet". . .

In kinship with every blogger who ever cursed the names of Bill Simmons or Jonah Goldberg for getting paid to do the schtick they do twice as good for free. . .

In kinship with the blogger who discovered that the memos *must* have been written in Microsoft Word. . . in December 2004. . .

In kinship with the Forgotten Blogger Nation, I urge you all to visit Sobekpundit's Potato Head Collection.

For all the bloggers who toil away in Sitemeter obscurity. . . declare your solidarity with Sobek.

Smoke Nazis Fire Employees (WuzzaDem)
— Ace

Read it here, if you care to.

Four employees of a health care company have been fired for refusing to take a test to determine whether they smoke cigarettes.

Weyco Inc., a health benefits administrator based in Okemos, Mich., adopted a policy Jan. 1 that allows employees to be fired if they smoke, even if the smoking happens after business hours or at home.

Company founder Howard Weyers has said the anti-smoking rule was designed to shield the firm from high health care costs. "I don't want to pay for the results of smoking," he said.

The rule led one employee to quit before the policy was adopted. Four others were fired when they balked at the smoking test.

They're firing people for what they do in their own homes? I assume the ACLU is speeding to the scene as I write. Oh, that's right, it's because 'Howard' wants to shield his company from high health care costs.

Well, I guess that's it for Bob in accounting, who likes to make his own 'Super-Mac Smackdown' sandwich by stuffing a Quarter Pounder between two Big Macs.

Or Rita the receptionist, who says that every night is 'partay night', and could drink Otis (Hello? The guy from Mayberry) under the table.

Maybe 'Howard' likes to have a drink or two (or three, or four) with his steak (rare), so even though his liver and colon could end up emptying the company coffers, he doesn't mind certain personal habits that can drive up health care costs. Hey, sounds fair to me. (In case you were wondering, it doesn't really seem fair to me, I was being sarcastic).
