Two funny pieces about Margaret Cho, which would probably be higher on the list, except that 1, I've re-linked them a bunch of times, and 2, both are sort of ranty rush-jobs. Not the sort of professional-reading anti-Cho piece that I'm really proud of as a writer.
Proud of as a cheap-shot insult artist, yes. As a writer, not so much.
Still, this one's pretty good, and it includes one of my all-time favorite put-downs, ever:
But all of this was just too easy. No one talks about Margaret Cho; no one thinks about Margaret Cho. Margaret Cho doesn't even follow Margaret Cho's career."Career"?
Perhaps we use our words too loosely. Andrew Ridgely-- the other dude from Wham! -- looks at Margaret Cho's career and sees a cautionary tale.
Shelley Long looks at Margaret Cho's career trajectory and thinks, "Oooh, now that's what I call a rough patch."
The transexual serial killer in Silence of the Lambs has a higher Q-Rating than Margaret Cho-- and we mean the actual serial-killer, not the actor playing him.
Certainly no one in Hollywood thinks of Margaret Cho for any reason, for any part. Not even Margaret Cho herself. Even when Margaret Cho somehow gets a script sent to her (by accident; addressed to "Occupant") and sees a part for a "Fat, Not-Funny Asian Woman," she immediately thinks, "You know who'd be just perfect for this? Delta Burke. Delta Burke can play Asian."
Margaret Cho walks into a fashionable Hollywood bar, walking a shit-covered, fly-clouded pig on a leash."Hey!" the bartender exclaims. "You can't bring that fat, stinking, shitty sack of pork-lard into this bar."
Margaret Cho and the pig exit the bar.
Ten minutes later, the pig returns to the Hollywood bar, this time without Margaret Cho. The pig jumps up on a barstool and orders a beer. The bartender pours him a tall one.
"Thanks for being so understanding," the bartender says.
"Oh, I get that all the time," the pig says. "I can't go anywhere in this town with her. Margaret Cho is absolute poison within the industry."
Dumb, yeah, but it still makes me giggle a little.
Thanks to RDBrewer for finding that Cartman pic and tweaking it a bit to make it a bit more Cho-esque.

— Ace NRO was nice enough to link one of my several anti-Cho pieces here. Kind of bookend links-- they linked me right in the beginning of my blog, and then the day after my first blogoversary. And never in between.
Ann Althouse, also linked by Goldberg, insists, just like that dopey Slate reviewer, that Margaret Cho is funny not because of her written act but because of her funny faces and funny voices.
To each her own, I guess. Maria Bamford does lots of funny faces and funny voices, but she actually has a well-written act in addition to the funny faces and voices.
I don't know why Cho is to be praised for only being able to do "funny faces" and "funny voices" without having any kind of written act to speak of.
As I've said a thousand times before: I'm sorry, but I think Althouse just appreciates the socio-political content of her unfunny act, and finds it kind of validating. But validation isn't really comedy.

— Ace All bloggers who want to be green with envy must check out One-Hundred Percenter's graphs of Cheese & Cracker's crazy-sick rise in traffic, after only a few weeks (days?) of blogging.
Over two million unique visitors... in three or four days.
And look who's perched atop the Truth Laid Bear traffic rankings.
Cheese and Crackers tells me the following:
Yesterday my main mirror (united email systems) was getting crushed
(even with additional bandwidth) and their DNS server got knocked
offline. They got it back up and running and between midnight and
midnight served roughly 500 terabytes (I'll have exact numbers later
today), and that doesn't include any of the other mirrors (which I
sadly cannot get bandwidth data for).
I don't know what 500 terabytes is, exactly, but it sounds pretty f'n' monstrous.
I'd be filled with hatred and spite, except Cheese and Crackers was nice enough to link to me, and I've gotten a taste of that sick traffic he's been getting.
Just dipping my beak, as they say in the Godfather II, but there's so damn much traffic that a little beak-dip is pretty refreshing.

— Ace Stunning:
The president has announced that the US, Japan, India and Australia would coordinate the worldÂ’s response. But former International Development Secretary Clare Short said that role should be left to the UN.
“I think this initiative from America to set up four countries claiming to coordinate sounds like yet another attempt to undermine the UN when it is the best system we have got and the one that needs building up,” she said.
“Only really the UN can do that job,” she told BBC Radio Four’s PM programme.
“It is the only body that has the moral authority. But it can only do it well if it is backed up by the authority of the great powers.”
As if there were any doubt, there are a group of people in the world who reject any role for sovereign national governments in the world and want, ultimately, a one-world government (or at least a government that handles all of the important non-local governance), probably via the UN.
What's particularly annoying about these people is that they only wheedle their way into positions of power through appointment by bureaucrats who are themselves appointed by other bureaucrats. Only through multiple layers of insulation from actual democratic election can one-worlder socialists/pacifists like Claire Short actually manage to wield major power.
Only the UN has the "moral authority" to provide blankets, water, food, and medicine to the stricken? How much "moral authority" does one need to provide charity to the suffering?
It was somewhat laughable when it was claimed that only the UN's scary-important "moral authority" could suffice to establish a just war. But now Ms. Short is actually claiming that only the UN has the moral authority to give out money and aid.
Unbelievable.
