Well, for once, the "straight-talking maverick who the media loves almost as much as McCain" seems to have a point.

Then he blathers about the war being a mess and how his patriotism or party loyalty shouldn't be questioned.

I wouldn't question a war hero's patriotism. And as for party loyalty-- well, I do question it, but that's barely even an insult, is it? We all know you're not supposed to be loyal to a party, but to your convictions.

Were I to question anything it would be his carefully-nuanced (i.e., dogfood) positions on the war, and his motivations for doing so.

Does he carp out of genuine principle or because he's following in McCain's footsteps of showing enough liberal leg to the media to make them swoon?

And I do grow tired of the media's kneejerk reaction that any Republican who supports the President and his policies does so out of partisanship and any Republican who snipes at him does so out of enlightened principle.

Maybe the NYT will admit the obvious: taking a position against your party sells with the public. Well, first it sells to the liberal media, who then sell it to the public like discount candy-necklaces at a rave.

There's more than one self-serving reason to announce a position. The list does not begin and end with "partisan Republican loyalty."

I have been asking God to help defeat the demons. In fact, last night I was on my knees begging him, crying out loud to him, to help me. He didn't answer, again. The problem is I am loosing my religion. I don't accept anything at face value, not even my own thoughts. So when I start having religious convictions I question the source. And in my current situation I figure I am under a lot of stress, and there are perfectly natural human mechanisms that account for all religious experiences. The demons (if that's what they/it are/is--I use the term for mere convenience) have convinced me that I should at least question my religious beliefs, (this makes sense, otherwise I would believe anything) and that is how they got the key to the dungeon, and trapped me inside.
To be more specific, I am scared, alone, and confused, and my reaction is to strike out toward the perceived source of my misery, society. My intent is to harm society as much as I can, then die. As for the "Happy Joe" (Jet), well he was just a dream. The bogeyman was alive and happy long before Happy Joe.

Just One Minute looks at the lawyer's statements and denials and finds there's a bit of wiggle room there.

Like: he denies using the name "Valerie Plame," but that leaves open the possibility he said Wilson had been selected by his unnamed wife... and a very quick google search would provide that information.

Now I don't think a crime was committed here, and futhermore I think the nepotistic selection of Clintonoid hack Joe Wilson does in fact make that process of selection "fair game."

Still, it's not what I think, it's what Big Media thinks, and Big Media is right now thinking that Bush has given them that knife that Nixon spoke of so long ago.

Fred Phelps is a vicious idiot, but it looks less and less plausible to say he's one of our vicious idiots.

Rev. Phelps has run in numerous Democratic primary elections for governor of the state of Kansas in 1992, 1994, and the last time in 1998, when he came in last with 15,000 votes out of a total of over 103,000 votes cast, or 15%.

He eventually turned on Gore, "protesting" Gore's father's funeral.
