— Ace Again, the New York Times seizes opportunistically on a tragedy to claw desperately on behalf of liberal power, but they "forget" to report the "context" that mine deaths are in fact down.

— Ace Read this.
JERSEY:Boy, you couldn't ask for more comments reflecting such an "objective" look at David Letterman and his show.
...
Letterman has a right to his opinion, just as we do, but attacking him because he disagrees with the war in Iraq, President Bush's policies, or empathizes with Cindy has become so outlandish, it borders on being un-American.
Unless of course you don't belive in free speech.
DAVE:"Free speech is quite overrated." -- Thomas Jefferson
JERSEY:Dave in Texas,
When and where did Jefferson ever say that speech is overrated?
DAVE:"Free speech is overrated, but not overtly so". --
Thomas Jefferson, delivering a campaign speech in July 1799 in Weehauken NJ
JERSEY:Dave in Texas,
I find no evidence Jefferson ever said any such thing.
...
Sorry, but even with your change in tone, to: "Free speech is overrated, but not overtly so," I still find no such quote.
Methinks you're full of it, but I could be wrong, it's not out of the question.
DAVE:I don't think you're really trying very hard. Did you look up Weehauken? I may have spelled it wrong.
See what I'm saying? Jersey can't even go into Bartlett's Familiar Quotations (available on-line, of course) to find a few choice Thomas Jefferson quotes that virtually every schoolboy knows.

— Thomas Jefferson That's why neither movie is doing well. They're stealing customers from eachother.

— LauraW. Don't play with firearms while making a bam.
POLICE in a Vancouver suburb reminded residents it was not a good idea to play with a loaded gun while using the bathroom, after a man accidentally shot himself.
Please print out this article and post it on your Ace Of Spades Safety Bulletin Board.
Remember, it could happen to you.
If you're a GIGANTIC FRIGGIN' MORON.

— Thomas Jefferson Some content warning.
This doesn't seem like an account of an actual rape, but it's certainly vicious all the same.
Thanks to Craig.

— Tanker Lynn Swann Says He'll Run for Pa. Governor
Swann said Wednesday that he hopes to convince blacks that he is a better candidate than Rendell, the former Philadelphia mayor. The Democratic Party has "taken the African American vote for granted," Swann said.
And he doesn't sound like a RINO either.
Swann has so far revealed little about his political philosophy or the initiatives he would pursue as governor. He has advocated reducing certain business taxes and said he opposes abortion rights.
Of course, how long before he is asked about Mumia by the MSM.

— Ace It's too bad. He seemed to be walking a good path between fighting terrorists hard and appeasing Europe and the US left.
H/t to Bama.

— Ace Without doubt, this is a nasty tactic. But Newsweek's little Cassandra seems to be enjoying himself as adds weights to the scales of doom:
Iraq's troubles just keep getting crueler. The same American officials who used to promise imminent victory are now saying openly that the insurgency seems likely to continue indefinitely. The recent elections, rather than creating a sense of common ground, only emphasized the country's deepening rifts. And all the while, the insurgents are attacking the social structure wherever its defenses are weakest, aiming to create chaos so hopeless that America will finally give up and go home. Now they are targeting the health-care system with murders, kidnappings and scare tactics.
The way they... surround a story.
Thanks for the recap there, Scott. It was very informative. Oh wait, no it wasn't, it was a glib and contentious summary of the basic situation we all know well that has nothing to do with the actual news you're trying to report-- you know, "reporting news," that boring, tedius time-waster you engage in in order to deliver your scary-important opinions to the public.
APBTA.

— Ace ...they didn't take the batteries out of their cell phones when not being used. Thus allowing the telecom network, which is always pinging cell phones to determine their locations, to follow their every step.
Bill from InDC thinks they should have been taught this at Langley. I think they just should have watched one of the dozen episodes where the cops did exactly this on Law & Order or CSI.
I do admire the bravery of these men. I have lost all faith in the CIA as an institution, however. For whatever reason, it is entirely incompetent, and should probably be disbanded at the soonest possible date. The one-third (max) of qualified personel can be folded into the Defense Intelligence, or even the State Department's intellgence bureaus.

— Ace You can't make this stuff up, but you can link it after Allah sends it to you:
PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) President Ingrid E. Newkirk said last Thursday at the International Nonviolence Conference in Bethlehem, “we call all attacks on civilians, whether against Palestinians in Jenin or Israelis in Tel Aviv, what they are: War crimes.”
I know: the Israelis don't target Palestinian civilians (apart from some isolated cases of Israeli terrorist extremists). But wait, it gets better.
“If we want an end to violence, it means that we must first reject the slaughterhouse, the animal circus, and animal skins and remember that kindness to animals has been a cornerstone of every great religion in the history of the world," she added.
We have to do that first?
Are these people f'n' insane? We have to stop exploiting animals before we stop murdering innocent human f'n' beings?
It's very important that war be stopped, this particular MacArthur Genius Grant winner believes. Because war -- let's not sugar coat this -- frightens animals.
Newkirk, author of seven books on the treatment of animals, did not shy away from directly linking human and animal suffering, and said that "to allow one form of violence to exist while asking for the eradication of the other is painfully hypocritical.""War is a frightening thing for all living beings. Every day, millions of animals, who pledge allegiance to no flag, and who have done nothing to provoke aggression, are the victims of the longest running undeclared war in human history: the war on the animal nations," Newkirk added.
They're not anti-war, they're just on the other side.
The "other side" in this case being with the chickens, trained bears, and Tijuana sex-donkeys.
Re-Link: Good Penn & Teller takedown of PETA. Thanks for the reminder to an anymous poster.
PETA: Firmly Against Terrorism, Except When It's To Save the Lab-Rats: A tax-filing noting their donation to the defense fund of Rodney Coronado, convicted of firebombing a research laboratory. Thanks to Allah for that, again.
It's also mentioned in the Penn & Teller video, I'm pretty sure.
(Oh, by the way, no one was killed in that firebombing.)
