Strange if true:

A former special investigator for the Pentagon during the Iraq war said he found four sealed underground bunkers in southern Iraq that he is sure contain stocks of chemical and biological weapons. But when he asked American weapons inspectors to check out the sites, he was rebuffed.

Between March and July 2003, Mr. Gaubatz was taken by these sources to four locations - three in and around Nasiriyah and one near the port of Umm Qasr, where he was shown underground concrete bunkers with the tunnels leading to them deliberately flooded. In each case, he was told the facilities contained stocks of biological and chemical weapons, along with missiles whose range exceeded that mandated under U.N. sanctions. But because the facilities were sealed off with concrete walls, in some cases up to 5 feet thick, he did not get inside. He filed reports with photographs, exact grid coordinates, and testimony from multiple sources. And then he waited for the Iraq Survey Group to come to the sites. But in all but one case, they never arrived.

Mr. Gaubatz's new disclosures shed doubt on the thoroughness of the Iraq Survey Group's search for the weapons of mass destruction that were one of the Bush administration's main reasons for the war.

Well! They were sealed by concrete! All righty then. No way to get past concrete for the US Military, I guess.

Hmmmm...

Researchers, including a BYU scientist, believe they have found a new compound that could finally kill the HIV/AIDS virus, not just slow it down as current treatments do.

And, unlike the expensive, drug cocktails 25 years of research have produced for those with the deadly virus, the compound invented by Paul D. Savage of Brigham Young University appears to hunt down and kill HIV.

While issuing a cautious caveat about his early results, Unutmaz acknowledged Monday that CSAs could be the breakthrough HIV/AIDS researchers have sought for so long.

"We received these agents [from BYU] in early October and our initial results began to culminate by November 2005. We have since reproduced all our results many times," he said. "We have some preliminary but very exciting results [but] we would like to formally show this before making any claims that would cause unwanted hype."

What studies to date show is a compound that attacks HIV at its molecular membrane level, disrupting the virus from interacting with their primary targets, the "T-helper" class white blood cells that comprise and direct the human immune system. Further, CSAs appear to be deadly to all known strains of HIV.

In addition to being a potential checkmate to HIV, the compounds show indications of being just as effective against other diseases plaguing humankind - among them influenza, possibly even the dread bird flu, along with smallpox and herpes.

AN exotic species of crab regarded as a delicacy in its native waters of China and Japan is spreading at an "alarming rate" around Britain's coast and waterways, a university study said today.

The Chinese mitten crab, brought to Britain in the last century in ships' ballast water, could cause "devastating environmental problems" if their rising numbers were not monitored and curbed, Newcastle University researchers said.
The crabs, which can grow as big as dinner plates, prey on protected UK native species such as white-clawed crayfish and salmon eggs.

Hm. What possible solution could there be to this problem.

Eat them?

Look, it's just a suggestion.
Lord knows crab meat is the cheapest low-grade flesh on the market. Why, just the other day I threw away ten pounds of the stuff because we were just sick of it.
But, you know, those clever Brits might have some use for the foul stuff. Grind it up for fertilizer, probably, or maybe there's some medicinal usage for the shells after all that horrible, horrible crabmeat has been disposed of.

It's not like human beings have ever completely decimated a stand of shellfish with only their appetites. Why, we wouldn't even know how.

Apparently the girl defended herself by stabbing her assailant and killing him.

Now, she is going to be hanged as punishment.

The teenage victim had no access to a lawyer at any stage and efforts by her family to retain one were to no avail.

The BBC working hand in glove with Islamofascists... why I never thought I'd see the day:

Twelve cartoons were originally published by Jyllands-Posten. None showed the Prophet with the face of a pig. Yet such a portrayal has circulated in the Middle East (The BBC was caught out and for a time showed film of this in Gaza without realizing it was not one of the 12).

This picture, a fuzzy grey photocopy, can now be traced back (suspicion having been confirmed by an admission) to a delegation of Danish Muslim leaders who went to the Middle East in November to publicize the cartoons. The visit was organised by Abu Laban, a leading Muslim figure in Denmark.
