— Ace But...
It's Iran's state paper. A Pakistani paper reported a week ago that Bill Clinton thought the Mohammed cartoonist should be arrested. That was total bullshit.
It's untrue that he said it, I mean. Germans do tend to deny, or justify, the Holocaust a lot more than they usually permit themselves to say.

— Ace Not only did they play us like fools for three years, they're arrogant enough to boast of it.
They think they can't be touched at this point. They may just be right.

— Tanker The one good reason to watch Chris Matthews is that he always makes an ass of himself. Always.
Today was no different. Check out this wonderful analogy he made. He said that 60 years ago Winston Churchill went out on a limb to predict the evil of the Iron Curtain growing across Europe.
So did he compare George Bush for going out on a limb to combat the evil of the Islamist terrorists. NO!
He compared Churchill to Brent Scowcroft and James Baker for predicting civil war in Iraq.
There are retarded liberals and then there is Chris Matthews. Enjoy your place in hell Chris. Its right between Lord Haw-Haw and Axis Sally!
Speaking of degenerate media hacks, the BBC acknowledges Churchill's speech today as well. Apparently, the Iron Curtain fell thanks to a number of populist uprisings. No mention is made of Pope John Paul II or Ronald Reagan or the US Army in Europe for 45 years!

— Ace Kennedy's received the, errm, accolade three times; Kerry, four.
Kerry's office was less thrilled. ''Americans judge you by what you fight for, not the number a cubicle-dwelling pencil pusher assigns to your votes," said spokesman David Wade. ''These grades seem more arbitrary by the minute."
Little rule I've learned:
Anyone who says looks don't matter is probably not very attractive.
Anyone who says book-smarts aren't the measure of intelligence probably has trouble getting through a comic book.
And anyone who says that political labels mean nothing at all, especially the label "liberal," is probably slightly to the left of Pol Pot's junior economic advisor, the one Pol Pot ignored as "too utopian and impractical."

— Ace So he's the one:
A renowned psychiatrist from UC Irvine was duped into squandering at least $1.3 million of his family's fortune on a Nigeria Internet scam, according to a lawsuit recently filed by his son.The son, also an Orange County doctor, said his father — Dr. Louis A. Gottschalk — gave as much as $3 million over a 10-year period in response to an Internet plea that promised the doctor a generous cut of a huge sum of cash trapped in African bank accounts in exchange for money advances.
The court documents, filed last month in Orange County Superior Court, allege Gottschalk even traveled to Africa to meet a shadowy figure known as "The General."
Gottschalk — who at 89 still works at the UCI campus medical plaza that bears his name — said in court papers that the losses were caused by "some bad investments."
Guy Gottschalk is asking a judge to remove his father as administrator of the $8-million family partnership that was set up for tax purposes after the death of his mother in 1993. A hearing is set for March 14.
...
In court papers, Guy Gottschalk said his only motive was "to prevent Louis Gottschalk from continuing to be victimized by these devious Nigerian scams."
In related news, I am desperately trying to find out Louis Gottschalk's email before his son has him declared incompetent.

— Ace In case you don't remember, a man had beaten his girlfriend's daughter into a coma. The state wanted to pull the plug on her; the man, hoping to avoid an actual murder rap (such charges would be filed if she died) wanted to keep her alive and on life support.
A nurse told the mother of Haleigh Poutre during a hospital visit on Tuesday that the severely beaten Westfield girl, whom officials once wanted to let die, has been able to eat scrambled eggs and cream of wheat, and has tapped out drum rhythms during physical therapy, according to the mother's lawyer. But it is unclear when Poutre began eating solid food, and how often she does so. A Department of Social Services worker, who was monitoring the 15-minute visit, has told the nurse to stop talking to the mother about the girl's condition, said Wendy Murphy, a Boston lawyer who represents Allison Avrett, who is Poutre's biological mother.
''Silence and secrecy has been the most frustrating component of this case," Murphy said yesterday. ''It just seems inhumane that information about this child can be forbidden on the theory that it's somehow protecting her privacy, when you consider that this child almost died under the state's care."
I concede (although many don't) that there are some situations in which letting a severely brain-damaged and comatose patient die may be the humane and medically proper course of action.
I cannot comprehend, though, why the state views death as the default prescription.
Liberals are generally in favor of spending government money on health care. Why are they so gung-ho to save a few bucks by killing people who are actually alive and may have a chance at a decent recovery?

— Ace And one count of Driving While Islamist:
Authorities charged a recent University of North Carolina graduate with nine counts of attempted first-degree murder on Saturday, a day after police said he drove a sport utility vehicle through a popular campus gathering spot.Mohammed Reza Taheri-azar, 22, is also charged with nine counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to cause bodily injury.
Derek Poarch, chief of the university's police department, confirmed Saturday that Taheri-azar, a native of Iran, told investigators he wanted to "avenge the deaths or murders of Muslims around the world." Poarch would not provide any other details of Taheri-azar's motive.
I think we can all fill in the blanks.
...
Taheri-azar told police Friday they would find things inside his apartment in nearby Carrboro that would shed light on his motives, Poarch said. That led authorities to ask the State Bureau of Investigation to search the apartment with a bomb squad, but Poarch said they didn't find anything dangerous.
How about a Koran?

— Ace Really, really cool.
A nimble, four-legged robot is so surefooted it can recover its balance even after being given a hefty kick. The machine, which moves like a cross between a goat and a pantomime horse, is being developed as a robotic pack mule for the US military.BigDog is described by its developers Boston Dynamics as “the most advanced quadruped robot on Earth”. The company have released a new video of the robot negotiating steep slopes, crossing rocky ground and dealing with the sharp kick. View the impressive clip here (28MB Windows media file).
“Internal force sensors detect the ground variations and compensate for them,” says company president and project manager Marc Raibert. “And BigDog's active balance allows it to maintain stability when we disturb it."
This active balance is maintained by four legs, each with three joints powered by actuators and a fourth "springy" joint. All the joints are controlled by an onboard PC processor.
The project is sponsored by the US Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA), who want the robotic pack mule to assist soldiers in terrain too tough for vehicles. Ground-based soldiers often need to carry 40 kilograms of equipment.
Okay, sounds good, right? Wait till you see this video of the thing in action.
It is not the lumbering, clunky robot you're used to.
Thanks to DDG.
