Cool Chase Videos
— Ace

The best one is this one. One caveat: Although it poses as Cops-style documentary footage, the action is so unbelievable that I strongly suspect it's fake, a well-done stunt reel put on the Internet as real.

High-speed motorcyclist outruns cops, flips them the bird. This may be the "Black Prince" who speeds around the highways circling Paris, although the narration of the footage is in German.

Shock: Lesbians' Brains And Sexual Response Similar To Those of Straight Men
— Ace

You're kidding, right?

LesbiansÂ’ brains react differently to sex hormones than those of heterosexual women.

An earlier study of gay men also showed their brain response was different from straight men — an even stronger difference than has now been found in lesbians.

LesbiansÂ’ brains reacted somewhat, though not completely, like those of heterosexual men, a team of Swedish researchers said in TuesdayÂ’s edition of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

A year ago, the same group reported findings for gay men that showed their brain response to hormones was similar to that of heterosexual women.

So, let me get this straight.

Gay men, who attracted to men, have similar sexual responses in their brains as straight women, who are also attracted to men, and lesbian women, who are attracted to women, have responses similar to straight men, who are also attracted to women.

Could these similarities also account for the fact that straight women love, love, love gay men, and straight men love, love, love lesbians?

We need science to answer these difficult questions for us.

In related news, a team of Swedish time-wasters/goldbrickers/scientists have determined that people who really like Brussel sprouts share similar interactions between their taste buds and pleasure receptors.

How lame is this "science"? While real scientists are figuring out how to make a usable antimatter fuel, behavioral (ahem) scientists are proving that people who like the same things may, in fact, be alike.

Here's a question worth answering: Straight women love gay men, and gay men love them back, but lesbians tend (generally) to hate straight men?

How can we bridge these differences? A lesbian-straight guy alliance would be unstoppable. We'd spend all day working with power tools and all night at the strip clubs.

Thanks to Craig.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali
— Ace

Christopher Hitchens has a good piece about this woman, a collaborator on the film that got Theo Van Gogh butchered in the street, and of course the subject of death-threats by adherents of the Religion of Peace (TM) herelf.

This is shameful:

She has had to live under police protection ever since, and when I saw her again last week in Washington, I had to notice that there were several lofty and burly Dutchmen acting in an unaffected but determined way somewhere off to the side....

But here is the grave and sad news. After being forced into hiding by fascist killers, Ayaan Hirsi Ali found that the Dutch government and people were slightly embarrassed to have such a prominent "Third World" spokeswoman in their midst. She was first kept as a virtual prisoner, which made it almost impossible for her to do her job as an elected representative. When she complained in the press, she was eventually found an apartment in a protected building. Then the other residents of the block filed suit and complained that her presence exposed them to risk. In spite of testimony from the Dutch police, who assured the court that the building was now one of the safest in all Holland, a court has upheld the demand from her neighbors and fellow citizens that she be evicted from her home. In these circumstances, she is considering resigning from parliament and perhaps leaving her adopted country altogether. This is not the only example that I know of a supposedly liberal society collaborating in its own destruction, but I hope at least that it will shame us all into making The Caged Virgin a best seller.

Well, the Dutch have certainly "progressed" since the days of Anne Frank, huh?

There is of course the old "When they came for the Jews..." poem. And Churchill's (I think) warning that appeasers feed others to the crocodile in hopes that the crocodile will eat them last. And of course the old joke about two hunters being pursued by an angry bear.

One hunter begins running. The other says, "You're crazy! You can't outrun a bear!"

The first hunter says, "I don't have to outrun the bear; I only have to outrun you."

Europe is a continent of cowards and accomplices to murder who are all desperately running from bears.

Trouble is, the bear population is increasing, partly because Europeans are keeping them so well fed.

PetiteDov attended Hirsi Ali's book-signing in Cambridge yesterday, and has pictures and impressions from the event.

Recent Cambridge immigrant John Malkovich was on hand (and PetiteDov has a picture, of course).

True enough, Malkovich moved from Paris to Cambridge, suggesting he's soft-headed and just another dopey leftist actor, but then again, anyone who threatens to kill terrorist-apologist Robert Fisk can't be all stupid. Fisk whined:

And last week, the Hollywood actor John Malkovich did just that, telling the Cambridge Union that he would like to shoot me.

"How, I ask myself, did it come to this? Slowly but surely, the hate has turned to incitement, the incitement into death threats, the walls of propriety and legality gradually pulled down so that a reporter can be abused, his family defamed, his beating at the hands of an angry crowd greeted with laughter and insults in the pages of an American newspaper, his life cheapened and made vulnerable by an actor who – without even saying why – says he wants to kill me."

Actually, Malkovich named Fisk when asked for a list of people he'd like to "fight to the death," not necessarily murder.

I suppose Malkovich might have just named Fisk because Fisk has expressed a great deal of sympathy and understanding for those who have beaten the holy hell out of him:

The Middle East correspondent was attacked when his car overheated and broke down close to a village housing refugees from Afghanistan.

...

"At first they were reasonably friendly but then a little kid threw a stone at me. More stones followed and then I find myself being punched and beaten in the face.

"My glasses were smashed and my spare glasses were ripped away from me. I was covered in blood and couldn't see anything. I was obviously frightened."
...

But Mr Fisk said he could understand the refugees' anger, as many had relatives who had been killed by the US bombing of Afghan city Kandahar last week.

"It doesn't excuse them for beating me up so badly but there was a real reason why they should hate Westerners so much.

"I don't want this to be seen as a Muslim mob attacking a Westerner for no reason. They had every reason to be angry - I've been an outspoken critic of the US actions myself. If I had been them, I would have attacked me."

So, you know, Malkovich might not be expressing his political views here so much as he's figuring Fisk is the sort of super-pussy he can not only beat the crap out of, but then have the snivelling worm actually apologize to him afterwards for scuffing his knuckles with his jawbone.

As the kids say-- I'd hit it. Oh yeah: I'd hit it hard.

Power To The (Deranged) People
— Ace

Writing about Colbertgate (did I just actually type the non-word "Colbertgate"?), a very useless and stupid blogger/race-hustler named Steve Gilliard writes about leftist blog-solidarity. Or blogidarity.

If you get confused here (possible, because he's not a very good writer), keep in mind he is frequently using the term "civil response" in a novel fashion. He's not talking about a objectively civil response, but about a response with a level of civility equal to, as he judges it, the civility of the statement being responded to. So, when he says people are owed a "civil response," that's a cutesy way of saying "They deserve to be torn to shreds if they're not sufficiently following the party line; if they break the party line and criticize people on the left, that is inherently uncivil, and so a 'civil respose' to them will be equally uncivil."

I'm quoting this because it demonstrates the sheep-like, slightly Stalinesque Sisterhood of Solidarity nature of the leftist mindset. Or, as a once-great President nearly said, "You're either with us, or you're with the right-wing fascist racist terrorists who don't think Steven Colbert was particularly witty or funny or even brave."

Civility is more than politeness, it is defending your prinicples when they are attacked in a way consistent with them. An agressive defense is a civil response. When someone sweep a broad brush over people who support and defend you, it is not only uncivil, but cowardly to not respond in defense.

This is also not a loyalty test based on belief. This is about solidarity. We cannot ask the Democratic Party to present a unified front while ignoring vicious and unfair attacks on ourselves. If we don't stand for each other, how can we expect anyone to take us seriously?

Honestly, I can't think of anything more likely to cause people to not take you seriously than playing this game of "You criticized my friend, so now I will say mean things about you, too."

Jeff Goldstein is constantly being pounded by the left. Have I risen to his defense? Um, no.

Is it because I don't like Jeff Goldstein? Well, of course that's a big part of it. In fact, that's a really big part of it; the guy just pisses me off.

But it's also because I have this crazy idea that Jeff Goldstein is an individual and an adult who can, and probably should, fight his own battles himself. And it's also because I just don't share the Left's Sisterhood of Solidarity mindset.

The mainstream media, by the way, looks pretty silly and clicquish and Heathers-ish when they all rally to protect one of their own. The lefty blogs criticize the "right wing media" for doing this, and yet they see no hypocrisy in doing the same.

This doesn't mean blind agreement, but collective defense, like NATO. That doesn't mean France and the UK agree on trade policy, but if someone attacks France, the UK puts those differences aside and joins in the common defense. But if Italy joins the attack on France, you don't continue to defend Italy as an ally. They are no longer part of the common defense.

When someone goes after our fellow bloggers, we engage in collective defense. If you go after Peter Daou, don't think he stands alone, because he doesn't. If you take him on, you better be prepared to take on a bunch of other people. Not because we agree with every word, but because if he acted responsibly, we are honor-bound to stand by him as he has stood by us.

And when we disagree, we disagree on the issues, not on his taste in shoes or his job. That is true civility.

Again, the self-pleasing illusion that the left is not personally nasty, but only engaged in substantive policy disputes.

This would come as a surprise to Jeff Goldstein, who has been repeatedly attacked as some kind of brain-addled drug addict by the left because he takes the anti-panic/anti-anxiety drug Klonopin, by doctor's prescription.

As I do, by the way. So why haven't I defended him on this?

Because, again, he just gets on my tits and I don't like him.

But also, that other thing about being an individual.

But mostly the first one.

I mean, Jeff has been having a pledge drive for a week now, and have I mentioned it?

No. Because 1, we're individuals who stand or fall on our own merits, and not because we're part of a group. And 2, I just don't fucking like him.

Our readers stand with us as well, because they see the value in what we do. Which where our power comes from. It doesn't come from us alone.

Ahem. I'm pretty sure I get as much if not more traffic than Steve Gilliard, and never have I deluded myself into believing I have "power."

From where would my power derive? You morons? You don't listen to me, for one thing, you constantly argue with me and point out my errors, for another thing, and of course you're all too clumsy and low-functioning to manage anything more difficult than a riot at a Dairy Queen, nevermind a political revolution.

But to mistake civility for politeness is a sign of weakness. One can disagree civily, and defend oneself civily, but still stand one's ground. It is not a euphemism for weakness.

If Ms. Cox wants to stand by her man, that's fine. But if she chooses to do so by slagging people, then she will get an aggressive, if civil, response. She long ago violated any sense of collective security, by taking her act to inappropriate forums and placing her career first and foremost. Even Stephen Colbert leaves the stupid act at home.

But when she goes after people we respect for petty, trivial reasons, that collective security is going to come into play.

It's not a petty or trivial complaint to note that you've gone batshit crazy.

Peter Daou doesn't get tossed under the bus because we want to make nice. We stick together because we benefit from it. She chose to turn on left bloggers, and they turned back on her. Just because she claimed to be on our side, she always acted like she was on her side.

Um, Wonkette has always been on Wonkette's side, idiot, and I don't say that as an insult. Her shameless self-promotion and naked ambition are pretty much the only things I respect about her.

Not because she didn't agree with us, but because she wanted to impress her new friends, she slagged a bunch of hard working people who she once identified with.

And that requires a civil response.

Here's a civil response for you, Steve. There's only one cat in the blogopshere who truly has my back, and he's a time-travelling drug-addled baloney sandwich named Johnny Coldcuts.

Certainly This Is Just A Coincidence

Palestinian police officers salute during a
graduation ceremony in the West Bank town of Jenin May 9, 2006.

The Religion of Neohitlerism (TM).

I'm aware that variations of the extended-arm salute date back to Rome (and before, I'm sure). And that the fact that the Nazis adopted the salute a their own does not make the salute, necessarily, Nazi inspired.

But.

They do seem to have a lot of other things in common, too. Like, you know, proclaiming they want to finish Hitler's work.

And Israellycool thinks those Hitler moustaches are a little too on-the-nose, or, I guess, just beneath the nose.

Sodomy, of Both the Light and Aggravated Kinds, Increasing Among Teenagers
— Ace

You're welcome.

Okay, this story isn't worth linking, and that's not my joke. It's Jimmy Fallon's joke from an old SNL Weekend Update.

But it's a really good joke, and I think it should be used wherever possible.

I Can't Believe I'm Linking This
— Ace

1, it's about Colbert. 2, it's by Ana Marie Cox.

But it's a good piece. It's about the bullying and lock-step nature of the lefty blogs, and their rather immense lack of proportion, in 1, deeming Steven Colbert's comedy routine to be, in one blog-commenter's view, "a work of staggering genius that could only be pulled off by a man with testicles the size of Alpha Centauri," and 2, excortiating anyone who dares to disagree with this Politburo-endorsed line.

This is perhaps the most absurd "controversy" I've ever witnessed. The left should be deeply ashamed of itself. Not because of their nasty behavior -- that's par for the course, and there's no shaming them out of that -- but for investing emotionally so much in something that is so friggin' trivial.

It's lunacy.

November 2002: William Kristol, hearing the crazy chatter coming from the left after the Republicans' midterm victory, declares "They're talking themselves into insanity. Bush has driven them crazy."

The first diagnosis that I remember. And their stability has deteriorated since then.

More... The Politics of Anger over at the American Thinker.

They've gone so far they're not even bothering to deny it anymore. One lefty, defending Ana Marie Cox, had to present his Bush Derrangement Syndrome credentials so as to not be mistaken for a Right Wing Collaborationist, stating "I hate Bush as much as is possible on an out-patient basis." Yes, of course that's a bit of a joke, but jokes communicate truths.

Thanks to GWynn for that.

11-7 Watch

Not tomorrow. It'll pull back tomorrow and maybe Thursday too.

Hopefully Friday.

And then it's smooth sailing, because you know the media will report the fact that the Dow is at an all-time high as insistently as they did during the Clinton Administration.

FoxNews Down 17%; CNN Down By 38%; Guess Which Warrants A Headline In the LAT?
— Ace

No, seriously, you have three guesses.

Interestingly, MSNBC is up 16%, which I guess means that their rabidly-lefty take on the news (or "news-like substitues") is working for them.

Then again, it's pretty easy to manage a 16% increase when you have MSNBC's average vieweership of six hundred people. You just need another 100 people to accidentally click on your station while looking for some classic episodes of Walker, Texas Ranger, and whammo, 16% increase.

I think those numbers actually do mean something, though. Are you all as adverse to watching the news lately as I am? I used to be a newshound, especially on Sundays. I'd record all the Sunday shows, even the ones I never watch.

Now I barely even bother with Fox News Sunday.

Maybe I'm just a big stinking Republican Eeyore, but I do sense that the wheels have come off the wagon on this administration, and that makes it harder to be interested in the news. Every day seems like more bad news.

Except as regards the economy. But, of course, that doesn't really make it to the news, now does it?

So... maybe Fox's droop shows that conservatives are dispirited, and MSNBC's Matthews-Olberman suckboy tandem shows that liberals are excited. (Hey, if America's doing poorly, and Iran's about to get the bomb and blow us all up, that's worth partying over, right?)

I don't know.

I try not to phone it in here, but I sure could use some real good news to make this more fun.

I'm not saying I have to gloat every day. But once a month would be nice.

Remember gloating?

Those were good times.
