Howard Dean Announces Scheme To Subvert The Foreign Policy Of The US
— Ace

At some point someone needs to be prosecuted for this. It's either the law or it isn't.

Thanks to Phin.

Inspiration For Anchorman?
— Ace

A real (I think!) promotion for a local newscast from the seventies.

I think this is actually funnier than Anchorman.

Dorothy Fludheim is obviously the inspiration for Veronica Corningstone.

Thanks to GuyT.

Democrats' Proposed Budget Would Increase Discretionary Budget By Greatest Amount In Three Years
— Ace

Bonus: They have a secret plan to balance the budget by 2012, while raising spending but supposedly not raising taxes.

David Brooks On The Gutless Anti-War Democrats
— Ace

Behind the TimeSelect Wall of Silence:

The Democratic leaders don't want to be for immediate withdrawal because it might alienate the centrists, and they don't want to see out the surge because that would alienate the base. What they want to do is be against Bush without accepting responsibility for any real policy, so they have concocted a vaporous policy of distant withdrawal that is divorced from realities on the ground.

Say what you will about President Bush, when he thinks a policy is right, like the surge, he supports it, even if it's going to be unpopular. The Democratic leaders, accustomed to the irresponsibility of opposition, show no such guts.

As a result, nobody loves them. Liberals recognize the cynicism of it all. Republicans know the difference between principled opposition and unprincipled posturing. Independents see just another group of politicians behaving like politicians.

What we get is foreign policy narcissism. The Democrats call it an Iraq policy, but it's really all about us.

Democrats cynically positioning themselves on grave matters of war and peace without concern as to the national interests, but merely their own electoral interests?

Hush yo mouth, that's crazy-talk.

Hillary Clinton: I'll Leave It For "Others To Decide" If Homosexuality Is "Immoral"
— Ace

Maybe she needs a specific-issue Listening Campaign to decide.

Kinda Funny: Probably old, but here's a parody of the Snickers ad where mechanics kiss from Jimmy Kimmel. Light content warning.

Thanks to 3rd Bird.

Giuliani's Law Firm Lobbied For Chavez's CITGO
— Ace

In fairness, he joined the Houston firm two years ago, almost certainly after CITGO had long been a client.

Still. Not cool.

No Big Deal? So most commenters seem to think. I don't think it's a big deal either. I suppose he could have turned down the partnership -- in which case the firm would still have CITGO as a client -- or made his joining of the firm contingent upon them dropping CITGO as a client, which is, well, probably a futile gesture.

Having pushed Giuliani so much I feel obligated to put out stuff on him like this, though, otherwise people will call me a shill. Which I'm not, really; I support the guy, I'm not in love with him.

Sick Day
— Ace

Apologies for conking out yesterday so early. And today's not going to be much better. This chest cold just won't go away, and just to get some sleep uninterrupted by constant waking-up coughing I had to try to nuke the cough with Thera-Flu.

I don't know how you guys react to Thera-Flu, but it puts me in a bubble of fog for all the next day.

It did stop the cough, though. It also stopped most higher-brain functions.

KSM
— Ace

It's all old now but here's some links.

The ABCNews story detailing his confession.

Hot Air with choice excerpts, including his confession to personally murdering Daniel Pearl.

Rosie O'Donnell is upset that KSM has been robbed of his "humanity."

What a vile woman.

More links at Pajamas Media.

Noah Schactman floats the theory, popular on the left, that KSM falsely confessed to virtually everything in order to increase his Terrorist Hero Cred or to protect his buddies. I don't think that there's much need of so much suspicion -- before the invasion of Afghanistan, Al Qaeda was more hands-on and active in the planning and execution of terror plots, so I don't find it terribly hard to believe that Al Qaeda's Number Three man -- and specifically its chief operating officer for terror -- had a hand in any number of plots. Why wouldn't he be involved in most Al Qaeda plots before his capture?

I think Schactman is thinking of Al Qaeda as it is now -- less directly involved in terrorism, offering mostly moral support and sometimes, when they can manage it, technical expertise to independently-acting cells -- and not as it was before KSM was captured.

Dow Rallies From Yesterday's Sell-Off
— Ace

Subprime performance.

Here's a bit of AP's take on yesterday's drop:

The Dow fell 242.66, or 1.97 percent, to 12,075.96. On March 24, 2003 the index dropped 307 points when U.S. casualties began mounting in
Iraq.

Really?

Casualties began mounting, huh?

March 24, 2003

U.S. and British troops continue to advance, with no meaningful opposition from the Iraqi armed forces. So far, most of the Iraqi 3rd Corps in the south has disappeared, its troops either deserting or surrendering. The U.S. 3rd Infantry division is now a few hours drive from Baghdad and the only opposition has been sniping from small groups of Saddam's secret police and Baath party loyalists.

Thanks to Zonies for poitning that out.

Well How About That: Commenters say it is correct to say the 2003 sell-off was sparked by "mounting" casualties. From thestreet.com:

Wall Street had a predictable reaction to the first significant setbacks of "Operation Iraqi Freedom." A growing realization that bringing about "regime change" in Iraq won't be quick, easy or without allied casualties sparked a sharp and substantial selloff Monday.

30 US fighters died the previous day, March 23.

Pajamas Media Straw Poll
— Ace

I put the widget in the left sidebar, just after the ads. Vote if you like. I think I have to take it down soon because it's too wide for my margin. So get your votes in there.

A kinda-neat thing is that the poll records overall votes and "by precinct," that is, by referring blog. So you imbeciles can see which morons the other retards are supporting.
