Hugh Hewitt On Board With The Grassroots Full-Court Press
— Ace

He puts things delicately, saying that most haven't "crossed the Rubicon" yet, but wants a full boycott of these scumbags if they do.

Contact information at the link: A vote for defeat is a vote for Al Qaeda.

And maybe they can't win without moderates, but they won't be winning without Republicans, either.

Thanks to someone.

Lindsay Graham: "I don't want the Congress to be the cavalry for Al Qaeda"
— Ace

I caught this in Jules Crittendon's post crowing that his prediction that the NYT's and AP's reports about Bush getting ready to pull the plug on the war were largely fictitious wish-fulfillment fantasies.

Despite a steady procession of Republicans calling for a change in course, several lawmakers warned against a precipitous withdrawal.

“I believe that our military in cooperation with our Iraqi security forces are making progress in a number of areas,” said Sen. John McCain …

Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham, who accompanied McCain to Iraq, also cited progress since Gen. David Petraeus took command several months ago and the additional troops began arriving.

The Iraqis are “rejecting al-Qaida at every turn. I don’t want the Congress to be the cavalry for al-Qaida,” he said.

Now here's the thing: Graham is manning up on this issue while Liddy Dole is calling for all troops to be out of Iraq by 2008. Dole, of course, was with us on immigration, and Graham was against us.

Although the amnesty bill was horrible, it can hardly be doubted that victory over Al Qaeda is more important than virtually any domestic bill.

These people -- Dole, Alexander, Snowe, Collins, even cry-like-a-bitch Voinovich -- have proven susceptible to constituent outrage friendly persuasion before.

Why not again?

Just because these people bowed to our demands the last time around is not enough to give them a free pass to undermine the war in Iraq. I think it's time for the blogosphere and talk radio full court press again.

If we don't, they'll take that as a sign that cutting and running and handing Iraq to Iran and Al Qaeda (but I repeat myself) is perfectly acceptable to conservatives.

These people supported the surge. In fact, many of them called for a surge before Bush announced a surge. And now that the surge is just beginning, and our troops are taking the inevitable additional casualties that come with taking a more aggressive stance against Al Qaeda, they're busy writing mash-notes to the terrorists in the form of withdrawal plans. This is unconscionable.

As a political matter, it's also ineffectual -- if the Democrats are right (or make themselves right by forcing a defeat), are these jackasses really thinking they can disown responsibility for the war by "distancing themselves from the surge" years after most Democrats declared Iraq a lost cause?

How many additional troop deaths do these people figure a few percentage points of approval are worth? 1% additional approval = 50 additional troop deaths caused by their encouraging Al Qaeda? 100? What's the exact number of additional dead soldiers and Marines they're willing to trade for a marginally better chance at the 2008 elections?

Allah doubts pressure on them can work because the polls are against the war. I'm not sure that's quite true -- the polls express profound disatisfaction with the war; I'm not sure the public is all jazzed about handing Al Qaeda its own state in Iraq, however.

But even if that's a case -- true, these jerkoffs can't win in 2008 without moderate support. You know who else they can't win without in 2008? Actual Republicans.

If staying home and letting the Democrats take their seats is what it takes to get them on board with the surge, I'm all in favor of that tradeoff. At least realizing they're all doomed anyway would leave them free to vote their consciences rather than vote their electoral expediency -- we have a chance with their consciences, at least.

They are undermining our troops in a war they authorized and surge they championed even as the surge is in its opening phase, and showing genuine success -- and they're encouraging Al Qaeda to kill even more troops.

This slow-bleed strategy is politically cute but militarily deadly -- if they want out of Iraq, they should call for the immediate withdrawal of all troops out of harm's way, not allow our troops to risk their hands, arms, legs, balls, and very lives for a war they've already given up on.

Either fight this fucking thing or call for the immediate withdrawal of all troops, right fucking now. Stop killing troops for what they take to be a lost cause just because they fear the political consequences of a stronger, more logical stance.

Stop playing games with our troops' lives.

Or the fuck with you all. We don't need goddamned Republicans selling our nation out to Al Qaeda to pander for votes; we have thousands of Democratic politicians eager to do us that dubious service.

Possible Cancer-Killer? Herpes
— Ace

Set a life-thief to catch a life-thief. Sounds, actually, like perfect sense to me. Chemical treatments don't work, not fully, and not without massive damage to healthy cells and incredible pain -- we need a biological, let us even say nano, agent killing the plague of cancer. Chemicals aren't smart; biological agents are. Or at least they can be engineered to be smart enough.

A genetically engineered herpes virus, designed to kill cancer cells but leave normal tissue unharmed, has shown early promise in clinical tests, scientists said on Saturday.

...

NV1020 is a modified version of the herpes simplex virus, which causes cold sores. Its genetic make-up has been altered that so it only replicates in cancer cells, killing them in the process, and leaves ordinary cells alone.

...

Axel Mescheder, MediGeneÂ’s research head, described the case of one very late-stage patient whose cancer had spread to 10 different places around the liver and four in the lungs.

He was given four weekly infusions of the virus followed by two cycles of chemotherapy, and six months after treatment scans showed that his liver tumors had nearly disappeared. The patient survived for 12 months following the intervention.

“The reduction in the tumor masses was really impressive in this patient. The hepatic (liver) masses almost disappeared,” Mescheder said in a statement.

“The results are really quite encouraging at this early stage.”

Indeed. This is one fiscal conservative who wouldn't mind seeing a multibillion dollar Cancer Manhattan Project started to advance this technology, and fast.

Thanks to genghis.

McCain: Give 'Em Straight Talk Until They Bleed
— Ace

One of my few positive posts about John McCain. Give the man his due: While seven Republican "jackasses" defect to support a withdrawal even as the early indications point to increasing success in Iraq (Hagel, Snowe, and Sens. Norm Coleman (Minn.), Susan Collins (Maine), Gordon Smith (Ore.), John Sununu (N.H.) and John Warner (Va.) -- all up for reelection in 2008, except for Snowe), McCain gives them hell -- well, a too-polite version of hell for my tastes -- on the Senate floor. Worth watching.

Bill Kristol suggests that McCain suspend his campaign temporarily to devote himself fully to this fight. I would suggest that's the right thing for the war, the country, and McCain himself. He's currently going nowhere, and doesn't have the cash on hand to do much of anything.

But what if he pulled a page from Thompson and campaigned without campaigning? People are frustrated by Thompson's ever-delayed declaration of candidacy, but why the hell should he be in a rush to declare? He's gaining support, even becoming the front-runner, without declaring. Why screw with that magic earlier than necessary?

John McCain could do something somewhat similar. True, he's already declared (several times, actually), and can't un-declare. But it would improve his Statesmanship Rating to unselfishly (but cannily) declare he will not campaign on his own behalf (which he can't do much of anyway, and isn't helping him any besides) while he crusades for victory in Iraq. That might remind some of us what we found appealing about him in 2000.

Some advice: If John McCain is all about the "Straight Talk," it's time for him to publicly call out the craven politics behind the GOP Senators' sudden embrace of defeat. He chewed out Voinovich in private -- but straight talk behind closed doors is not straight talk for the American public.

For God's sakes, McCain, your ire is palpable when your fellow Republicans cross you on far less critical issues -- isn't it time to unleash some of that Mad Maverick Mojo on the GOP's Defeatist Bloc? Especially when it is so glaringly obvious -- no doubt to you yourself -- that their sell-out of our troops, putting them in even more danger by announcing to Al Qaeda that a full-out Jihadi Tet will have precisely the result they've long sought, is animated not by a concern for your fellow beloved serviceman or America's national interest but to position themselves better for their upcoming election?

Where is the anger? Where are the charges of corrupt motives and craven impulses? Now is the time to slam your fellow Republicans. Now is the time it will be most helpful.

And now is the time, coincidentally, it will help you the most, especially with your presidential rivals taking a, shall we say, more nuanced view of the surge and the war.

You need separation. Now is the time to separate. You need an issue that actually resonates with Republican primary voters. This is that issue.

You need to help America push forward at its last chance at victory, its last chance to avoid a defeat of potentially catastrophic dimensions. Now is your moment to write yourself into the annals of American history, whether you actually become President or not.

Goddamnit, get angry. You get angry about "special interests" easily enough. Is there a narrower or more selfish "special interest" than whether a single Senator improves his approval rating by a mere 3 or 4 percent in an election he's more than likely to win anyway?

Enough with the assumptions and statements of the good faith of your opponents. They are not acting in good faith and you know it -- they are undercutting any chance the surge might have to actually yield victory by proposing future drawdowns while we're in the fight of our fucking lives. They are proposing this now for one reason only: Because the Senate is about to go into recess and they want to be on the record as opposing the surge during their time campaigning back at home.

No one listens to Bush anymore. The liberal media, and moderates, do still listen to you. Make yourself heard, loudly and angrily.

Killing 13-Year-Old Innocent Bystanders In Gang-Related Hits: Jobs Americans Won't Do, Part 2,189
— Ace

Overstayed his student visa after it was terminated for dropping out of school. Racked up 27 arrests in four years but not a single LEO or judge inquired into his immigration status.

Net result: A 13-year-old is dead by his hand -- his hand wasn't on the gun, but on the gangbanger remote-control that put the murder in motion.

Sanctuary cities are sanctuaries for murderers. The left and the oh-so-sensitive PC establishment should be proud of itself.

They're so sensitive that the murders of 13-year-olds don't seem to trouble them at all.

Haditha Marine: CLEARED OF WRONGDOING BY HEARING OFFICER; RECOMMNENDS DROPPING CASE
— Ace

Nice:

"The government version is unsupported by independent evidence," Ware wrote in the 18-page report. "To believe the government version of facts is to disregard clear and convincing evidence to the contrary."
...
"Whether this was a brave act of combat against the enemy or tragedy of misperception born out of conducting combat with an enemy that hides among innocents, Lance Corporal Sharratt's actions were in accord with the rules of engagement and use of force," Ware wrote.

DaveP of Dean Esmay's blog wants to know if troop-supportin' Marine-lovin' Jack Murtha will be apologizing any time soon for his frequent slanders against this man.

Phuque that, actually: Maybe it's time for a goddamned lawsuit.

Deb Frisch Continues Internet Harrassment, Posting On-Line "Enemies'" Personal Information; Yet U of Oregon Offers Her A Job, She Says
— Ace

The timeline of her insanity.

Another blog that seems to be hers (no link; phuk her) claims:

I have a tentative gig teaching Psychology 330 (Thinking) and 302/303 (Research Methods/Statistics) in the Psychology Department at the University of Oregon in the fall! No benefits, but cash flow's good!

Check her history in the timeline again: Why the hell is U of O offering her a job?

Is that where here daddy works, by any chance?

It would be one thing if she had turned over a new leaf and stopped her creepy (and now illegal, by court order) cyberstalking. But she hasn't.

Meanwhile, while this lunatic cooze has a job, the most frequent victim of her cyberstalking has been forced to hang it up, at least until he finishes dealing with her (which seems likely to be never).

Does The U of Oregon Approve of Anti-Semitism In Its Professors? Apparently so. Again, no link. Phuque her in her azz.

A representative from Princeton University, Dr. Adam "non-tenure-track temp" Finkel, is an obsessive reader of this blog as is a representative from the University of Oregon who uses a Mac. I think Dan Drezner, a Pajamas Media blogger and Tufts University professor also swings by pretty regularly.

... my war with the juice [Frischspeak for "Jews" -- ed/] who ostensibly invented Linda the feminist bank teller, Bob the engineer and the blue and green cab companies has not even escalated into a single battle yet, except for a couple of snarky emails from Dr. Finkel, the fourth Jewish white male decision scientist employed by the Woodrow Wilson School and/or Psychology Department at Princeton.

Way to say fuck you to Dr. Tilghman! Isn't there diminishing marginal jewtility, Shirley? What's the added utility of Oppenheimer and Finkel when you've got Kahneman and Shafir? What am I missing here?

...

Imagine how board2tearz I am of jox about the quax, zionofascist s and other dangerous things.

Little More At PW: A digest of Michael Yon's dispute with the WaPo's Kiki Munshi. Michale Yon reports that Baquba is quiet and the residents are downright celebratory about this; Munshi responds that this "short-term" view is deceptive, because, hey, what happens in a few weeks?

A fair point -- but Munshi claims that Baquba is "currently" unlivable.

Her claim about the "long term" view would be stronger if she actually had her facts right about the "short term" situation, woudn't it?

Phone Numbers: Perhaps the University of Oregon would like to explain its very nuaced policy on anti-semites hired as part-time professors?

Would they care to comment on new-hire Deb Frisch's theory of "diminishing marginal jewtility"?

Do they plan on hiring any KKK members in the future? Or does their newfound latitudinarianism on anti-semitic hires only apply to psychotic lesbian cyberstalking scofflaws and slanderers?

Even An *Insurgent* Disagrees With Harry Reid's Policy Of Withdrawal And Surrender
— Ace

Apparently they're not convinced by George Voinobitch's arguments.

Oh, they want us to leave, of course. But when? According to a leader of the 1920s Brigades fighting alongside Americans and IA units against Al Qaeda:

"I ask one thing,” and now I paraphrase Ali’s words: “After the Iraqi Army and Police take hold and the security forces are ready, we want a schedule for the leaving of the American forces.”

Another good dispatch from Michael Yon, well worth reading.

The AP meanwhile managed to devote an entire two sentences to the Baquba slaughter.

JD Johannes Vs. Gleen Grenwald: Not exactly a fair match, is it?

Regarding Greenwald's insistence that there is no cooperation by insurgents with coalition forces to root out Al Qaeda -- all of his sources at the Rio de Janeiro gay disco circuit are quite firm on this point -- Johannes answers:

What I really learned today is the lengths many will go to deny the facts on the ground–when they have no knowledge of those facts–and the fear they have of success in Iraq.

To them the Anbar Awakening cannot be true, because if it is, the surge will be extended, the Petraeus plan will be implemented fully accross the country and the enterprise could prove successful.

And if the enterprise is successful, they were wrong. Their identities being so wrapped up in their opinions and belief that Iraq is and will be a failure, that their egos will not allow them to be wrong. Admission that they were wrong is tantamount to self-identity suicide.

Deficit Falls To $205 Billion, Half of 2004's Peak

Bush promised to cut it by half by 2009 or so. I'm not quite sure, because this article doesn't see fit to remind us of that.

Sheehan Takes on Pelosi
— Slublog

"Peace Mom" Cindy Sheehan decides it's time to lose an election for the cause.

CRAWFORD, Texas - Cindy Sheehan bid farewell to her former "peace camp" near President Bush's ranch and began a nearly two-week trek Tuesday toward Washington, D.C., with her sights set on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Sheehan, a Californian, officially announced that she intends to run as an independent against Pelosi in 2008 if the San Francisco congresswoman doesn't move to impeach Bush by July 23, the day she expects to reach Washington.

"I know what Californians care about," Sheehan said. "They don't care about the ruling power elite."

A Sheehan campaign spokesman, identified only as "Otter," said the importance of this issue "absolutely requires a really futile and stupid gesture be done on somebody's part."

A top secret AoSHQ spy smuggled a video camera into the debate that took place at the Camp Casey compound:

Considering the video's source, it's NSFW due to language.
