Happy Weekend! (And Open Blog)
— Ace

Sorry for not blogging today. I had to do non-blog-work all night last night and just couldn't get motivated to write another post about Larry Craig.

I see my minions have been busy. Thank you, Minions.

I'm just wishing everyone a happy weekend as it's a holiday weekend, not because I intend to take it off. Though I won't be around tonight.

So, Open Blog.

Democratic Fundraiser Turns Himself In
— Gabriel Malor

Norman Hsu, Democrat fundraiser extraordinaire, turned himself in to authorities in San Mateo. Bail was set at $2 million and Hsu briefly saw the inside of a jail cell. He was back on the street in minutes.

He's hired James Brosnahan, a stellar defense attorney based in San Fransisco. Brosnahan is known most recently for unsuccessfully defending John Walker Lindh.

Other Democrats have followed Clinton's lead in giving away Hsu's donations:

Hsu was involved in state and local politics as well. New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer donated $62,000, the amount he got from Hsu, to charity. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who received $1,000, and San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom, who received $1,250, also were turning their money over to charity, their aides said.

I knew this guy was big, but I didn't realize just how connected he was to Democrats at all levels of government.

Nifong Is Held in (More) Contempt
— Gabriel Malor

Mike Nifong has been sentenced to one day in jail for lying to the court. Nifong had claimed in court that he gave the lacrosse defense team all the documents related to the DNA evidence.

Notice that Nifong is getting punished for lying to the court, not for lying to the defendants.

h/t to Paulitics.

Same-Sex Marriage in Iowa
— Gabriel Malor

Yesterday an Iowa district court ruled that the state must allow same-sex marriage (PDF of the courtÂ’s opinion) under the Iowa ConstitutionÂ’s Due Process and Equal Protection Clauses. It also struck down IowaÂ’s 2006 law establishing that marriage could only exist between a man and a woman.

The state plans to appeal the ruling to IowaÂ’s Supreme Court. Proponents of IowaÂ’s 2006 marriage law will seek to get around the ruling by amending the state constitution.

Complaints about judicial activists overruling laws which were actually approved by a majority of Iowans began about five seconds after the holding was announced.

A quick summary of the opinionÂ’s treatment of Due Process and Equal Protection is in the extended entry. more...

Internet Bullshitter Angers Shaolin Monks
— LauraW.

It's not nice to talk trash about Kung Fu masters.

The Internet user, calling themselves “Five Minutes Every Day,” said on an online forum last week that a Japanese ninja came to Shaolin, asked for a fight and many monks failed to beat him, the newspaper said.

“The facts that the monks could not defeat a Japanese ninja showed that they were named as kung fu masters in vain,” the Internet user was quoted as saying in the post.

The Shaolin temple monks issued a statement of condemnation and are demanding an apology to the entire Chinese nation.

Can't help but notice how much publicity is being paid to just one forum-dork.

Virtually all of the blog-dorks who visit this moronblog can come up with much better slurs against the Shaolin Temple Kung Fu Masters.

Maybe. I think.

Wouldn't want to turn it into a competition or anything.

John Warner Not Running
— Ace

Not good news though, because Virginia is trending Democratic, Mark Warner could run from his seat, and I think I was told that John Warner's preferred protege is a RINO in his mold.

Jack M's RedEye Bleg
— Jack M.

I hate having to do this, but I'm going to ask you morons for a favor. I'm going to try to harness your retard strength, much like the Avengers tried to focus the power of the Hulk.

I have been reliably informed that my future bride, Fox News' Ms. Suzanne Sena, made mention of me last night on Red Eye w/ Greg Gutfeld. Further, I have been told that she discussed our trip to Baskin Robbins that I blogged about in this post. She did so with discretion, of course, which is yet another of her admirable qualities.

Unfortunately, the video of this magic moment does not yet appear on RedEye Recap, and my usual source for video clips, the great and merciful Allahpundit, appears not to have captured this particular segment.

So I am firing up the batsignal and calling upon y'all to help me. If you find it, and could post a link to it in the comments, that would be great.

It would also earn you an invitation to the future wedding ceremonies, which will, of course, feature an open bar stocked with Val U Rite Vodka. I look out for those who look out for me.

THE MOST IMPORTANT UPDATE ON ANY STORY IN AoS HISTORY!

Courtesy of my new favorite commenter, Red Eye Recap, I now have the footage in which the world's best ombudsman, Andrew Levy, uses his sharp investigative skills on Fox News' Ms. Suzanne Sena.

The Result? Magic.

Special Thanks to Andrew Levy for the mentions both of me and of the site. I got a big kick out of it, and I hope all you regular readers who are in on the running joke did too.

And Suzanne? I have a very special post in the works for you. I promise it won't be mean. I won't promise that it doesn't involve another trip to Baskin Robbins.

Freakin' Hippies
— LauraW.

You hate 'em, right?
Always popping off about Freedom and Choice while also constantly telling others what they should or cannot do with their own property.

BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities erected an 8-foot chain-link fence to separate tree-sitting protesters occupying a University of California oak grove from more than 72,000 football fans expected to descend on campus Saturday.

They're perched in trees playing guitar. Opposing progress, in favor of the non revenue-producing chiggers and squirrels. As usual.

A small group has been roosting in the grove since December to protest the planned removal of dozens of trees to make way for a $125 million athletic center. The university has sent e-mails to fans asking them to be tolerant of the tree sitters even as some Cal backers complain that delaying the new facility is hurting the success of the school's football program.

If the university wishes to be indulgent, so be it. Don't evict the protestors. Let the trees stand, and let the silly children stay up in the trees as long as they wish.

But definitely kill the trees. We have the technology. The County Extension Office can provide helpful hints on which soil or bark applications will work for this situation.

The trees' demise will inexorably lead to the protestors abandoning their cause as lost, but more importantly will yield sweet news video of weeping, defeated hippies climbing down from dead trees.

'Must-see TV.'

Bonus video below the jump. more...
