We Support The Troops By Portraying Them As Psychopathic Rapists In Major Motion Pictures
— Ace

Pat Dollard responds to Mark Cuban's and Bryan DePalma's attempt to "nauseate the American people" (DePalma's actual stated goal) by portraying its soldiers as rapists and killers.

Journalist Who Mocked Bush As "Idiot" For Falling Of Segway Falls Off Segway, Breaking Three Ribs
— Ace

2003: ""You'd have to be an idiot to fall off, wouldn't you Mr President.... If anyone can make a pig's ear of riding a sophisticated, self-balancing machine like this, Dubya can."

2007:

Rob Port says it's delicious schadefreude, but it's more than that. Once again a reporter mistook himself for a Universal Omincompetent All-In-One Expert Without Portfolio, authoritatively declaiming upon the auto-balancing of the Segway without, of course, ever having ever actually ever tried one him himself.

This is a sickness among the media class approaching the level of a viral mental disorder.

Acepalooza Stuff
— Ace

Note: For those who don't know, this is happening in Boston.

I spent Saturday and Sunday scouting possibilities for the Acepalooza. A pub crawl without drinking.

I just wanted people to know it is being worked on, and I plan to hit a few more places Tuesday night. By Wednesday or Thursday the place will be selected.

I walked around for an hour and a half in the area around South Station, thinking that might be an ideal area for it, since it's so convenient by T and parking (and directly from the airport). The place is a ghostland after business hours, though. It's ridiculous. I expected it to be a bit like Wall Street in NY, which is a ghostland after dark too but there are places open here and there. Not so directly around South Station.

It's really very hard to find a perfect place. I still have to check out some of the suburban hotel bars, but having checked several of them, they seem too dead -- quiet, yes, but maybe so quiet as to lower the mood of a crowd.

And he surburban ones won't offer people the possibility of going to another place after the party.

PS: Remember to please let LauraW know if you're coming or have decided to cancel. She's at laurawtips at gmail dot com.

Alas... The top place on my list fell through. They won't reserve a room and will only reserve a couple of long tables. Which would be fine, except when you consider it's one of the weekends all the college kids come back to Boston and will be a mob scene.

President Bush in Iraq Today
— DrewM.

I guess he wants to rack up some frequent flyer miles on Air Force One before they take the keys away.

Actually, the President sent a very interesting message with his choice of locations for his landing and meetings:

The president secretly flew 11 hours to this air base in a remote part of Anbar province, bypassing Baghdad in a symbolic expression of impatience with political paralysis in the nation's capital. The gesture underscored the U.S. belief that the spark for progress may come at the local level.

Â…

To a large degree, the setting was the message: Bringing al-Maliki, a Shiite, to the heart of mostly Sunni Anbar province was intended to show the administration's war critics that the beleaguered Iraqi leader is capable of reaching out to Sunnis, who ran the country for years under Saddam Hussein.

Bush has held up Anbar as an example of recent progress, especially on the security front, although the province is still economically deprived and not yet stable enough to turn over to full Iraqi control.

The countdown to the Democrats crying about playing politics ahead of PetraeusÂ’ report next week is officially underway. As if constantly shilling for AmericaÂ’s defeat for electoral gains isnÂ’t playing politics.

As someone who has soured on Bush in the last year (mainly over immigration amnesty), I have to hand it to the guy. This is quite a gesture, going to the heart of the region that was probably the most dangerous place on Earth not so long ago and is now a true success story for us.

John Edwards: Totalitarian Nanny Stater [Kensington]
— Open Blog

John Edwards wants to force you to go to the Doctor, whether you're willing or not.

The slick medium for dead babies told an Iowa crowd on Sunday that his socialized health care proposal:

“…requires that everybody get preventive care."

"If you are going to be in the system, you can't choose not to go to the doctor for 20 years. You have to go in and be checked and make sure that you are OK."

Got that? You may think you're an adult who can make their own choices when it comes to private, personal matters, but John Edwards knows better.

Now, look, those of us with small children or dependent parents know from experience that sometimes a strong-arm approach is necessary to get our loved ones the care they need, but thatÂ’s a personal and private matter involving families. I have no intention of sitting by passively as the Democrat Party demands this same authority.

IÂ’m on the edge of my seat waiting to learn what the penalties for non-conformity will be. What is wrong with these people? DonÂ’t they realize how totalitarian they sound when they talk like this?

Exit question: do admissions like this help or hurt their efforts with the American people nowadays?

Breaking News: Michael Jackson is dead.
— Jack M.

I repeat: Michael Jackson is dead.

One of the most important contributors to the development of the Ace of Spades Lifestyle, has passed away. We are the poorer for it.

Now, I know you morons think that I'm talking about that Diana Ross looking dude who used to be in the Jackson 5 and was, briefly, married to Elvis' daughter.

But that is, of course, becaue you are barely functioning 'tards.

The Real Michael Jackson did much more than dangle his children off of balconies, allegedly sleep in an oxygen chamber with a Jesus Juice filled 10 year old boy, and film a video with homosexual moonwalking zombies.

He reviewed beer.

Beer!

Michael Jackson, who died on Thursday aged 65, was a pioneering, and perhaps the most widely-known, writer on beer; he latterly gained equal acclaim for his work on malt whisky.

Jackson came to widespread attention through his television series The Beer Hunter, which was originally produced for Channel 4 and shown in 1990. It became a great hit in America and was eventually sold to more than a dozen countries. In the course of its six episodes, Jackson made trips to examine brewing methods in California, the Netherlands, Belgium (on the beers of which he was particularly lyrical), Germany and the Czech Republic.

He had begun his mission earlier, with the World Guide to Beer (1977, and in a new edition in 198 , which was credited with introducing Belgian beer to many foreign markets - notably the United States. Indeed, Jackson became a cult figure in America, and was regarded by many as having been instrumental in the growth of microbreweries in the country.

God Bless You, Michael Jackson. Ziggy Zaggy, Ziggy Zaggy, Hoi Hoi Hoi!

“Mexico does not end at its borders."
— DrewM.

That’s not the ravings of an open borders advocate like Geraldo Rivera or your average La Raza member. No, that’s Mexican President Felipe Calderon during his first state of the nation speech today.

We strongly protest the unilateral measures taken by the U.S. Congress and government that have only persecuted and exacerbated the mistreatment of Mexican undocumented workers," he said. "The insensitivity toward those who support the U.S. economy and society has only served as an impetus to reinforce the battle ... for their rights."

He also reached out to the millions of Mexicans living in the United States, many illegally, saying: "Where there is a Mexican, there is Mexico."

In the last few years my position on immigration has gone from ‘secure the borders and I guess some sort of amnesty is okay’ camp to ‘secure the borders and we’ll deal with it through attrition’. But garbage like this? This is the kind of talk that pushes people into the ‘round ‘em up’ and kick their asses out’ camp.

One thing you can almost always count on the left to do is overplay their hands. I hope teh Fred! and every other major Republican candidate beats the drum on this stuff. The left can cry about ‘wedge issues’ and ‘racism’ but there’s a lot of votes to be won, not by being anit-immigrant but pro-American.

*Cleaned up two typos Gabriel stupid pageant girl was kind enough to point out. Remember loose shit is a feature, not a bug here at Ace's.
