Once again, they avoid the damning fact that Obama deliberately crippled the standard, basic, default Address Verification System in an effort apparently to encourage fraud.

If he has any legitimate reason for doing so, he hasn't mentioned it yet.

Ohio's inspector general is investigating why a state agency director approved checking the state child-support computer system for information on "Joe the Plumber."

Helen Jones-Kelly, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, confirmed today that she OK'd the check on Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher following the Oct. 15 presidential debate.

She said there were no political reasons for the check on the sudden presidential campaign fixture though the Support Enforcement Tracking System.

Amid questions from the media and others about "Joe the Plumber," Jones-Kelley said she approved a check to determine if he was current on any ordered child-support payments.

Such information was not and cannot be publicly shared, she said. It is unclear if Wurzelbacher is involved in a child-support case. Reports state that he lives alone with a 13-year-old son.

"Our practice is when someone is thrust quickly into the public spotlight, we often take a look" at them, Jones-Kelley said, citing a case where a lottery winner was found to owe past-due child support. "Our practice is to basically look at what is coming our way."

Ohio Inspector General Thomas P. Charles confirmed today that he is investigating the incident to determine if "Joe''s" records were legally accessed by Job and Family Services employees.

The use of a state computer system to search for information on Wurzelbacher is the fourth uncovered by The Dispatch.

Democrat Gov. Ted Strickland [who appointed Jones-Kelly this past January] is satisfied that there are no political overtures to the check on Wurzelbacher, a spokesman said.

Ah, I see. Everyone's satisfied.

His name was also searched at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles, in the Toledo Police Department's criminal records, and in the office of the AG.

Is such a deep concern for each of its citizens standard service under the Strickand administration?

Volokh Conspiracy, David Bernstein talks about Obama's "re distributive changes" theories and has this little section of interest.

It's true that most Americans, when asked by pollsters, think that it's emphatically not the government's job to redistribute wealth. But are people so stupid as to not recognize that when politicians talk about a "right to health care," or "equalizing educational opportunities," or "making the rich pay a fair share of taxes," or "ensuring that all Americans have the means to go to college," and so forth and so on, that they are advocating the redistribution of wealth? Is it okay for a politician to talk about the redistribution of wealth only so long as you don't actually use phrases such as "redistribution" or "spreading the wealth," in which case he suddenly becomes "socialist"? If so, then American political discourse, which I never thought to be especially elevated, is in even a worse state than I thought.

Why, yes, the American Public is strangely schizophrenic on this topic and many others. Why else can you talk to any average American and have them complain about an inefficient and wasteful government just to have them turn around and (by the polls anyway) support a candidate who boldly proclaims his intentions to expand government and government spending?

Disaster of a movie.

Pretty scary stuff. Just ask the investors.

Although I think we all know these people aren't "investors." A lot of the people fronting the money have no expectations whatsoever they'll get their money back -- they're effectively donations to the Democratic Party.

And the rest of the funding? I think just comes from a studio's funding pool. I'd like Simon and Chetwyn to clarify this, but I believe studio bombs are charged against the profits of studio hits. So a guy who invests in a money-making film must "share the wealth," as it were, and subsidize the various bombs on the studio's slate before he begins making profits on his good investment.

Not sure how they get away with that, but I believe that's the system. I know Sony avoided paying out net profits on the first Batman by claiming that every single expense they incurred on other pictures for the next ten years had to be charged against Batman's profits before Batman itself was acknowledged of having made a "net profit" at all.

Correction: JJ Sefton points out that studios are mostly involved in distribution these days.

So insert "production compay" for studio.

Whichever way you slice it, two of the producers of Batman, who pushed the project along through long years of trying to get anyone interested, were told ten years after the film had become (for a time) the highest grossing picture of all time that there were still "no net profits." The film, the Peters-Guber company claimed, was still in the red.

This is why Hollywood types laugh at the concept of "net profits" and only accept gross profits (that is, actual dollars generated, irrespective of costs and charge-offs). No films in Hollywood ever make net profits, it turns out.

And do note that Obama is currently on the brink of achieving the ultimate "community organizing" position, the ultimate assembler of "coalitions of power," and the current top legislative position (and yes, the President is the most important legislator in the country, through proposing/advocating legislation and signing it into law) that will allow him to pursue the "redistributive change" the Warren Court was, tragically, insufficiently radical to contemplate.

Although this misinterpretation has forced Obama into a disastrous spin -- a spin that happens to be the truth. His camp is saying, "Oh no we don't think the courts can impose that, only the political branches can."

Yes, I know, Obama.

And what position are you currently seeking -- Supreme Court justice or head of the political branches?

But... his quote does mention, at the end, that he could construct a "legal theory" justifying the wholesale redistribution of wealth by the Courts.

Still, it's obvious that his preferred method of achieving this goal is by assembling "coalitions of power" through "community organizing."

This has been his life's work, and he's on the brink of achieving it.

Time to slow down. Nobody knows crap. They are now saying that the "plot was credible enough to go 'pick them up'".
