Military ballots are being tossed in Fairfax Co, VA because of a “technicality.” Not a lot of them compared to the size of the electorate, but more than a few.

The registrar of voters in a Democrat. He thinks it “stinks,” but the law is the law.

Fairfax general registrar Rokey Suleman said Thursday that he has had to reject some of the ballots because of a Virginia law passed in 2002. That law -- then called Senate Bill 113, sponsored by then state Sen. Bill Bolling – requires that when an overseas citizen wants to request an absentee ballot and cast a vote with the same paperwork, it requires not only a witness signature but also the current address of the witness.

The McCain campaign said thereÂ’s not even a space for the witness to list an address. Suleman agreed; he said the federal document was changed in recent years and the space for the witness address was removed. But the Virginia law hasnÂ’t changed.

Democrats insist theyÂ’re biased towards access... so will they try to intervene on behalf of these voters?

Incidentally, a quickie law could fix this.

But they won't do it.

Are Virginia Registrars Hard-Assed on Every Point? Answer: NO.

Not if you're a likely Obama voter.

In that case, Democratic registrars are "easing" the rules (that is, breaking the law) by allowing non-resident college students to cast votes in swing state Virginia, despite the typical law that voters must have a permanent abode in the state.

And who pressured them to do this? Well, the Obama campaign, among others.

Think he'll make a call regarding our soldiers based overseas?

And now his employees JUST HAPPEN to rule against military voters while Connolly is running for Congress?

That was this guy too. He sent his henchmen right into the fucking prisons to get convicts to vote.

Convicts and out of state college kids can vote. Heroes can't.

Yes, I mentioned this myself. I now realize it's idiotic.

For one thing, the image could be flipped.

For another thing, she could have taken a picture of herself in a mirror.

For a third -- if she were on her back, her head held by the attacker's left arm below her chin, her head between his legs as he scratched -- she'd be upside down as oriented to him.

You know what that would end up looking like?

Not backwards at all, that's how it would look.

This speculation is silly.

Others have made this point, but Devil's Advocate at Copious Dissent took the simple step of turning the picture upside down to graphically demonstrate how ridiculous it is to keep talking about the backwards B.

There are so many sensible explanations for this that to cry "hoax" over this one point is silly.

Yes, Drew Griffin apologized live on TV. But that is a one-minute thing, and then down the memory hole. Where is the acknowledgment on a more permanent record that a gross error was made?

As Slublog points out, it seems very difficult for someone to give herself a black eye.

Just thinking about it, I'm pondering the high chances of crushing my eyeball in attempting to fake such a bruise. I think about slamming my eye into a doorknob, and then I have to stop thinking about it.

With that I'll stop speculating. Now that I have a name, a face, and a visible black eye it's harder to speculate this was faked. If this happened, which is likely, she needs support and sympathy, not skepticism and speculation.

I'll just chill personally and wait for the police to do their jobs.

Story's up. It doesn't seem premeditated or motivated, firstly, by politics.

But the political anger at seeing a McCain bumper sticker caused the mugger to become enraged.

A 20-year-old woman who was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield was also maimed by her attacker, police said.

Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard tells Channel 4 Action News that the victim was robbed at knifepoint on Wednesday night outside of a Citizens Bank near Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street just before 9 p.m.

Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said.

Update: Context from a native. It's a high-crime area, but it's also highly trafficked.

we're all surprised it happened at 9PM

but there's a lot of bars and restaurants around there
I used to work 3 blocks away, and there were shootings in that area like every month
so the idea someone would be mugging people isn't totally inconceivable in that area

Kind of a wash.

There must be cameras around this area, though, and not only at the bank -- I'm getting very frigging suspicious that there's not a single image of this attack yet.

I seem to remember the insistence that McCain and Palin were responsible for the words their "incitements" caused.

Edited: Earlier notes of skepticism deleted for three reasons:

1, doubts are mostly gone now that I see the picture.

2, the police will do their jobs, and it's unfair to speculate about the victim of a crime.

3, if my quotoes remain, CNN will quote me when they say "Even conservatives smell a hoax..." CNN only quotes conservative blogs when they make points helpful to the liberal cause. I've been quoted there three times and it's always been to attack Republicans. They've never once found me quite so interesting when I'm, say, noting Barack Obama's unprecedented voter and donor fraud.

Interesting system they have in Ohio -- absolutely no checking of voter fraud before it happens, and absolutely no penalty after, either, even when it's been proven.

Gee, I wonder what policy Ohio officials are attempting to advance regarding vote fraud?

They're nice white kids from good families. Charges are only appropriate in cases of black lower-class ACORN workers. You know -- the no-account coloreds who really don't matter and who don't have fancypants white dads with lots of money and white pull.

So I approve, of course.

Tuesday I blogged about CNN's Drew Griffin's interview with Sarah Palin and his egregious distortion of a quote from National Review. Today Griffin addressed the issue.

In no way did I intend to misquote the National Review. This exchange aired just once in the 6pm hour, and as soon as the National Review brought it to our attention at 7:05, we immediately realized that the context could be misconstrued, we cut that portion of the interview. It never aired again. We sent a statement to the National Review in an email explaining what had happened, that we had in fact cut the question from any further airings.

I guess we could nit pick that it's not a matter that the context 'could be misconstrued' as if it were the viewers fault but that's small beer.

Griffin has been about the only reporter (outside of FNC) on the ACORN and other Obama issues and the rest of the interview was very fair to Palin, so it's probably safe to say he just blew it and wasn't trying to sandbag her.

Good for him and CNN for pulling the sound bit in subsequent airings and addressing the interview.

WRONG! You can hardly blame me for reading "35" as "45." 35 seems.. preposterous.

And yet that's what a poll says.

I don't know about that -- but if McCain starts running the "bitter people who cling to their guns and religion and hate anyone not like them" quote in ads, he can capitalize on this zeitgeist.*

* Zeitgeist is a German word meaning, of course, "racist redneck hatred."
