Abscam Conspirator/Troop Defamer Jack Murtha: I Didn't Mean To Call My Constituents Racists, I Meant To Say They're Rednecks (Who, By the Way, Are Racist!)
— Ace

No, really.

U.S. Rep. John Murtha is calling many of the people who put him in office "rednecks."

The news comes one week after Murtha claimed the area is racist, then apologized for that comment.

In explaining his comments about racism, Murtha told WTAE it's difficult for many in the area to change. Murtha said that just five to 10 years ago the entire area was "redneck."

Now Murtha said only certain segments of the population are holding on to those racist feelings.

Just days after classifying western Pennsylvania as racist, Murtha took a step back from those comments, albeit a small one.

"What I said, that indicted everybody, that's not what I meant at all. What I mean is there's still folks that have a problem voting for someone because they are black," Murtha said.

Murtha said the history of southwestern Pennsylvania is rife with racism.

"This whole area, years ago, was really redneck," Murtha told Channel 4 Action News.

Murtha believes there is one segment of the population which is holding on to its racist beliefs and he said it's difficult for them to change. Murtha said it may be even more difficult for them to vote for Barack Obama.

"Particularly older people. They want change but they don't want to see things go too far," Murtha said.

Well that explains it then.

Even Better: Mark Salter Raises Fannie and CRA As Campaign Issues
— Ace

Not good enough, of course. I have long suspected -- with some fair amount of confirmation -- that many if not most of McCain's aides are perplexed and frustrated by his insane refusal to use this as an issue.

Does this mean McCain is preparing to unleash the subprime issue? No, alas. It just means Mark Salter let his frustrations bubble over in that previously linked interview with Jeffrey Goldberg of gay gossip site and antisemitic conspiracy newsletter The Atlantic.

"...everyone knows how this mess got started: people pushing sub-prime loans on people who can't afford to pay them back. That's how it got started. Which party is more culpable for that phenomenon? The Democrats! The Democrats are. We say, if you want to pin political blame pin it on the Democrats for the Community Reinvestment Act and all the things they did protecting Fannie and Freddie, a position Barack Obama wholly shared. But what do we get in the media? That Rick Davis lobbied for Fannie Mae. We get no competing narrative."

I'm sorry, but for once I'm going to partly defend the MSM: The reason that there is no competing narrative is that the Republican standard-bearer refuses to offer one.

Because it's racist. Or something.

Thanks to Tom with the sharp eyes.

Insurrection! This would seem to be a good time to re-link the post urging contributions to the third party groups pushing this issue.

This has not quite taken the rightwing blogosphere by storm, I'm disappointed to say. Seriously, blogosphere: If you agree that this is an important issue, write your own post urging donations to these groups or link this one. Either/or. I don't care about the traffic. But I do think it's critical to get this game-changing information out there.

Don't you?

I couldn't get on to the system for a lot of the day. I know that the site was up and down throughout the day.

Pixy just said the system was overloaded. He's looking to tweak it.

Bravo: McCain Supporters Chase Off Embarrassing Asshole Selling Bumper Stickers
— Ace

Note that he is in fact selling bumper stickers -- at least he's offering them, I don't know if he's selling them and he doesn't really seem even terribly up-to-speed on his own allegations.

"Are you trying to lose this election for us?"

Look how awesome these supporters look chasing this moron off. Whether they mean to or not, they force the story into showing them rather than this idiot. And they're much more attractive spokesmen than this cretin.

Meanwhile, McCain aide Mark Salter says, and I do quote, Andrew Sullivan "seems to have lost his fucking mind."

Your blogging colleague over there seems to have lost his fucking mind, you know. Prior to Sarah Palin, he was accusing me of being a plagiarist, the whole Solzhenitsyn thing, the cross in the sand, and then it turned out that Sozhenitsyn didn't write such a story. I mean, Jesus Christ, it's just remarkable. This whole story about how the baby isn't hers? Jesus Christ. Just crazy shit.

I'm not "vulgar." I'm just ahead of the curve.

Bravo: McCain Supporters Chase Off Embarrassing Asshole Selling Bumper Stickers
— Ace

Note that Bill Ayers is once again declaring his support for anarchism, Marxism, and terrorism publicly.

Are we to believe Ayers told Obama a different story behind close doors? Did Ayers declare his support for left wing terrorism to everyone, except Obama?

Note: Cannibalized a double post to make a new one.

First several comments were about a previous story.

Note to Mainstream Media: Though you are now so in the tank that you are now denying documented facts, the facts remain: Obama did launch his political career during a "coffee" (a political meet and greet with big machers) in Bill Ayers' living room.

And the living room, too, of Charles Manson groupie Bernie Dohrn.

Oh -- and the living room, too, of the child they were raising, mothered by a Weather Underground terrorist in jail for armed robbery.

Can McCain touch this now that it's been blessed by a credible writer?

I hope so.

The Campaign Spot Channels Jack M.
— Jack M.

Palin Power from Jim Geraghty at NRO today:

Palin isn't weighing down McCain; she's whatÂ’s keeping him in the game...

Meanwhile, Sarah Palin brings Saturday Night Live its best ratings in 14 years.

She drew 10,000 to an airplane hangar in Roswell, New Mexico. (Insert alien-babe joke here.)

She drew 24,000 to Noblesville, Indiana, and 6,500 to an airplane hangar in Bangor, Maine.

She drew 10,000 to Salem, New Hampshire, the same day that Obama was in the same state in Londonderry and drew a little over 4,000.

No offense to any of the other running mate possibilities, but do you think any other pick by McCain would have drawn 60,000 to The Villages in Florida?

You think it's strictly coincidence that almost 70 million people watched the vice-presidential debate? You think Joe Biden is the reason it outdrew all of the Obama-McCain debates?

And, as noted in the sidebar, Gov. Palin pulled in an additional 11,000 people in Colorado Springs today. (I tried to find a Biden event to compare it to, but he hasn't been in Colorado since Greek Columns were in vogue.)

I particularly liked this quote from the Colorado Springs article. Remember how Peggy Noonan bemoaned Gov. Palin's ability to inspire voters?

Three generations of Colorado Springs women - Suzie Sanderson, 50, daughter Misty Terry, 27, and grand-daughter Sydney, 3, came out to see Palin. Terry, whose husband is a disabled veteran, said that "the best thing McCain could've done" was pick Palin.

Her mother, Sanderson, agreed

As Sarah Palin was inspiring three generations of women in Colorado, 99.8% of the country had still never heard of Peggy Noonan's memoir: "What I saw at the Revolution."

"He's Not My President" - How the Values of Conservatism Will Keep Us From Becoming the Looney Left Should Obama Win
— Russ from Winterset

I wouldn't call my outlook on life optimistic by any measure. When presented with the "glass half full/half empty" question, I'm likely to reply "Who cares if it's full or empty? What you don't understand is that the glass contains urine!" I believe that even if things go badly, you need to continue acting as if optimism is warranted and swing away right down to the last out. Pessimism is only a good option if you know all the facts, and between the natural variances in poll data and the media's outright cheerleading for "The One" this year, NONE of us know what's going to happen in November. That's why I still like reading Allahpundit's articles, even though I know he's "All GAME OVER MAN, GAME OVER All The Time": Even if I think he's got a point, I think it's important to stay focused once you've passed the point of no return. For example, it's very significant to point out that John McAmnesty is not exactly inspiring bliss among the conservative base in America while the primaries/caucuses are still going on, but once the ticket is set I think you need to realize that it takes damn near an Act of God to change the name on the top.

What I wanted to write about today is Obama Derangement Syndrome. Yeah, it's not a mental illness YET, but IF he wins in November Conservative America is going to be sorely tempted to look back at both Dubya administrations and copy the tactics of the Lunatic Left.

McCain Camp Looking For Some Joes
— DrewM

The McCain camp wants to hear your "I Am Joe" story and they might even make it into a TV spot.

We want you to tell us how you are "Joe the Plumber" and why you're supporting John McCain and Sarah Palin in thirty seconds. You could even see your video as an official McCain TV ad.

By now, "Joe the Plumber" is a household name and has become a symbol of Barack Obama's plan to "spread the wealth around." During a recent campaign event in Toledo, Ohio, "Joe the Plumber" asked a simple question and got a surprising answer from the Democratic nominee. When he asked why Barack Obama's tax plan was going to punish him for working hard and living the American Dream, Barack Obama responded, "When you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

...That's why we want to hear from you and share your story with the American public. It's simple ... make an ad telling us why you are "Joe the Plumber" in 30 seconds and we'll put the best ad on the air as a TV ad.

Share your story of living the American Dream, working hard, or owning a small business to tell America why you're standing with John McCain and Sarah Palin. Click here today to learn more and submit your video before Friday, October 24th.

Have at it morons. If you put one on up on Youtube, leave the link in the comments and maybe I'll put a couple up here at some point.

Here's the link to submit your video.

Joe Biden: Elect Obama And The World Will Test Him
— DrewM

On the same day Colin Powell's endorsement is supposed to end the worries about Obama's inexperience (according to none other than Newt Gingrich), Joe Biden was reminding people how dangerous it will be to elect the inexperienced Obama.

"It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."

It's like an inversion of Kerry's Global Test. But hey Obama is bright, clean and articulate so he'll probably do okay, right? And you can trust Biden's judgment about Obama and his ability to handle a crisis because...

"I've forgotten more about foreign policy than most of my colleagues know"

Gee a novice and a jackass at the helm of the US government in a time of crisis, what could go wrong?

UPDATE: Cuffy found the audio. Enjoy Joe in all his glory.
