— Ace And,by the way, having seen Indiana Jones 4, I have to say that analogy is not far from the mark.
I haven't seen it so I don't know if, for example, the episode's extreme racist humor against the Chinese is offensive. My guess? Not offensive enough.

As the election grows closer, it's clear that Barack Obama has a very good chance of becoming our next president. Such an admission might get me accused of defeatism, but at present the trends do favor the Democrats.
This possibility and this post by lauraw got me thinking about what an Obama presidency would be like. Since Obama is such a cipher and the press has shown little inclination to examine his life or beliefs, this is a difficult exercise. Still, it's possible to guess some of what's to come based on what the blogosphere has discovered about his past.
I should preface this by saying that even though I'm a pessimist, I'm not an alarmist by nature. However, the possibility of a candidate as far-left as Obama as president, with an overwhelmingly Democrat Congress supporting him, does give me considerable pause. more...

— Open Blog Ace is a kind and benevolent Overlord (I have to say that or I get the hoseÂ…also I have to put on the lotionÂ…but IÂ’m a team player). At night he lets us out of the dreaded Tip Mine to breathe the free air for just a few moments. Of course every morning his minions (Dave & Laura) drive us back down there in order to supply him with fresh tips. And also souls.
Item #1: CNN Makes a Racist Attack on President Obama and Quickly Retracts Their Headline:
The original headline on CNN’s article Thursday morning was: “Obama in Position to Steal Virginia from GOP.” (emphasis mine) So, not just Virginia’s hubcaps, but the entire state? The original CNN post was screen-capped here.
CNN realized it’s oopsie soon enough and the headline now reads “Obama in Position to take Virginia from GOP.” It’s a little better, but still sorta’ menacing. By Friday morning, the headline will read “Obama in Position to Receive Virginia from the GOP, followed by a hearty man-hug.” And who doesn’t enjoy one of those?
Read it here.
(Just between you and me, thatÂ’s one of the weirder pics of President Obama IÂ’ve ever seenÂ…whereÂ’s the halo? Expect that to get replaced as well.)
Warning: This is a poke at CNN and their gaffe, not Obama. Do I need to remind you that you need to keep your comments under control? The Ban-hammer can be quite painful.
Item #2: The “Global War Against Doctors” continues in the U.K. court system.
From the U.K. Daily Mail we get this headline.
”Two NHS doctors 'plotted indiscriminate and wholesale murder in car bombings across Britain.”
Doctors of indeterminate religious origins, of course. Why do they hate us? After all, havenÂ’t we always turned our heads and coughed when they asked us to?
Item #3: Woman Shot by Her Own Stove:
(note: this a local news digest, so scroll down a bit on the link, dumbasses)
”Sekiu, Clallam County: Woman's stove was packing heat
A Sekiu woman says she was shot in the leg by her stove.
Cory Davis told the Peninsula Daily News she had just stoked her cast-iron heating stove Sunday when she heard a loud bang and was struck in her left calf.
Davis says a case of shotgun shells spilled about a month ago at her home and one must have landed in the newspapers she used to light the stove.
She removed a metal fragment herself and was treated Monday at Forks Community Hospital.”
I know just how she feels. My bbq grill tried to attack me last week. Again, why do they hate us?
Linkishness though that's the whole story.
That said: You will not laugh! You will not cryÂ…I will teach you! I will motivate you! Get up! Get on yer keyboards!

— Gabriel Malor Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner can't get a break. Courts just keep insisting that she comply with the federal election laws.
A U.S. District Court judge in Columbus ruled Thursday that Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner must perform verification required by the Help American Vote Act. That includes matching a new registrant's information with information in databases maintained by the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles or the Social Security Administration.
Brunner insisted to the judge that she is checking new registrations as soon as they come in. Curiously, therefore, she immediately appealed the decision to the Sixth Circuit. Huh.
Incidentally, I got my ballot in the mail today. Gonna look at the California Props and some of the local races and then I'll be done with this election. I don't know how many people vote early, but McCain better not be saving the good stuff for the very end. It may be too late to make a difference.

— Ace Compare and contrast. First, Madonna, clapping and screeching.
Then, an adequate substitute, which you could actually own for the same $150 it cost you for the right to stand in Madison Square Garden and be sweated on by Gay British George Costanza double Andrew Sullivan, bitterly clinging to a youth he barely remembers. more...
