— Ace I wasn't going to see this, honestly. I was supporting it, but not terribly interested. Hey, I didn't even see Tropic Thunder yet. I'm a lazy moron. It takes a lot to get me out of the house.
Plus I just got the first disc of Stella from Netflix. And Ironman.
Now I goddamned am going to see it, tonight or tomorrow. I need to see it. Even if some of it is the sort of pandering I usually hate from Jon Stewart, I need some pandering. And I will even force laughs at such pandering, just like Jon Stewart's audiences. Because I kinda need the laughs right now.
Rush's Pimping: Hey, if El Rushbo says see it, you'd better damn see it.

— Ace Don't take my word for it.
There's goddamned video tape of it.
Does CNN have any intention of ever fact-checking its own fact-checking?

— Ace More of this. More of this. Nothing but this for the next 32 days.
The election hangs on this single issue.
The public believes Republicans caused this disaster, and we'll lose based on that misperception.
The Democrats actually caused it -- but Republicans, beginning at the top off the ticket, are inexplicably shy about saying so.
More of this. More of this.
If this US News blog post is correct, then I want McCain's people to tell me so, so I can stop blogging about McCain entirely and focus on limiting the damage in Congressional races.
If McCain wants to lose the election like a good trooper -- a dutiful soldier going off to die in a no-win mission he's not even supposed to win -- he really should have informed the party of this intention during the primaries.
Thanks to someone.

— Ace Obama looks good on TV-- reason for high praise.
Palin looks good on TV -- but we didn't hear "substance"!
Well, actually we did, Chris. But after making so much of Obama's skill and gift at working a TV camera, it's a bit much for you to now denigrate's Palin's similar skills and gifts.
Either it's a superficial reason for choosing a candidate for both of them, or for neither of them.

— Ace Why? Because the MSM will pick up on that silly mistake as Biden's only gaffe. Just a "Oh, there Joe goes again" thing.
Who gives a fuck about Katie's restaurant. This moron thinks Article I defines the executive, that we "kicked Hezballah out of Lebanon," and that 3 weeks of combat in Iraq cost more money than seven years of combat in Afghanistan. (He was off by 2000% -- which isn't even good enough for government work.)
Anyone want to bet me the only Biden gaffe the media is even willing to mention is Katie's Restaurant?

— Ace Unbelievably awful gaffe. Not ticky-tack. Not "arguably wrong."
Flat out, ludicrously wrong, with no way on earth to rescue it by postulating "Oh, I meant x."
But remember: Sarah Palin was "loose with the facts" and showed only "a superficial talking-point understanding of national issues."
Because this error is so deadly, the media will utterly refuse to report it. If they can't spin it -- and they can't spin this -- they simply embargo it.
Oh? And that jaw-dropping claim (which he repeated for emphasis) that we spent more in three weeks in Iraq than in seven years in Afghanistan? Was this anything a rational human being could possibly believe was even plausibly close to accurate?
And he lied, and lied, and lied, and erred, and erred, and erred, and gaffed, and gaffed, and gaffed.
I am dumfounded at that Iraq/Afghanistan one. It is so obviously crank -- laughable on its face. How on earth could he have asserted this as true, and then repeated it -- "Let me say that again so it sinks in"? How on earth could anyone with a brain possibly believe this?
Consider how borderline retarded you'd have to be to even consider this to be true.
Think about it.
This guy is not "a blowhard." He is a fucking moron.
Ready to step in and be president? Only so long as the most taxing question a president faces during the day is "What color are oranges?"

The debate is going on now and Granny Pelosi is giving a speech on the floor right now. It seems to be a straighter and bi-partisan speech.
The vote is coming up shortly.
UPDATE: Final Vote: 263-171
Now what? Will McCain take off the gloves on Fannie Mae, Freddie Mack and Barack Obama?
Beyond just tying Obama and the Democrats to this mess, I think McCain needs to hammer on Obama taking a pass on this bill. He didn't take a stand until the Senate voted and he did nothing to bring Democrats along during the first House vote. On the biggest issue of the day Obama basically took a pass. This is in McCain's wheel house and he really needs to take advantage of it...Presidents don't get to vote present.
Can I Just Say... [ace] Part of the reason I've been pushing this -- but only a small reason-- was my belief it would ultimately pass, and that if 1/3rd of the party continued hating it and thinking it was a socialist sell-out, the base would be depressed and dispirited and wind up not voting or not donating, etc.
I pretty much knew it would pass. Whether he was right to do so or not, the moment Paulson announced a crisis on the level of the Great Depression, it was going to pass. Because that's what government officials do, ultimately. Presented with a crisis -- real or ginned up-- the imperative to "do something" becomes overwhelming.
At any rate, against the bill or not, I sure hope this doesn't increase the odds of the GOP being wiped out in November. Unlike the cases of of amnesty and drilling, this one was mostly foreordained.

— Slublog A nice catch from Jonah Goldberg. Barack Obama not only stated he'd meet with Mahmoud Ahmadinejad during the primary debates, his promise to do so is still on the campaign website:

And predictably, the media is claiming Palin had the truth problem last night. The biggest complaint I've heard? She got the name of a general wrong. Ooohhh! Burn!
A new definition of BS - "Biden Says..." One thing I heard from the media is that Biden showed a greater grasp of the issues. As Goldberg points out, it's easy to sound confident when you're creating your own reality. It would be nice if the media pointed out Biden's repeated lies, but they're too busy patting him on the back for how gosh-darned smooth he sounds while doing it.
