Rasmussen: More Now Trust McCain Than Obama on Taxes... and the Economy
— Ace

Just barely. But this is a remarkable shift, and the economy drives the election.

(Duh. I know, huh? Conservative blogger of the year. You know, sometimes articles are frigging so obvious I don't have to write anything, but I still need to write something just for the linking text. So you get gems like that.)

Anyway, it's 48-47 on the economy, 47-45 on taxes. The latter should be a runaway, of course, but here's the thing: Stupid people simply say whichever candidate they're going to vote for, and then say that that candidate is better on all the issues, including the ones he's obviously not better on (like Obama being called better on national security).

So this big shift means that people are, in fact, shifting to McCain.

And that is a contradiction of my first obvious point, in which I said the economy drives the polls, because now I'm saying whatever candidate is favored will have cross-tabs showing a majority of the public favors him on all issues.

They're both true though.

I should have stopped after the first stupid thing.

The point is, it's a good poll. Leave me alone.

I need to go to bed.

Thanks to liberrocky.

Shock: Helen Jones-Kelley Lied; Searched More For Dirt on Joe the Plumber Than She Originally Admitted
— Ace

Remember -- according to Helen Jones-Kelley, anyone who appears in the public spotlight in Ohio is entitled to this same treatment.

Helen Jones-Kelley, director of the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, disclosed today that computer inquiries on Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher were not restricted to a child-support system.

The agency also checked Wurzelbacher in its computer systems to determine whether he was receiving welfare assistance or owed unemployment compensation taxes, she wrote.

Jones-Kelley made the revelations in a letter to Ohio Senate President Bill M. Harris, R-Ashland, who demanded answers on why state officials checked out Wurzelbacher.

Harris called the multiple records checks "questionable" and said he awaits more answers. "It's kind of like Big Brother is looking in your pocket," he said.

If state employees run checks on every person listed in newspaper stories as buying a business, "it must take a lot of people a lot of time to run these checks," he said. "Where do you draw the line?"

...

Jones-Kelley wrote that the checks were "well-meaning," but misinterpreted amid the heated final weeks of a presidential election.

"Well-meaning."

"Misinterpreted."

Ohioans, make sure you don't say anything publicly about Obama. Or else Helen Jones-Kelley, Arch-Minister of Thought Compliance, will be forced to run a "well-meaning" dirt-dig on you.

Huffington Post Writer Stabs Ex-Lover 220 Times, Commits Suicide
— Ace

No time for snark, but seems to be a case of Bush Derangement Syndrome heightening other problems. Or, perhaps, Bush Derangement Syndrome as a symptom/outlet for a deeper problem.

Hatred gives people focus and meaning.

Burger, upset at the disintegration of her relationship and disgusted with the U.S. during the past several years, sometimes talked of moving to Panama or Mexico to start again.

...

But when the Web site The Huffington Post tapped Burger to cover the election from Florida this month, the job seemed to give her renewed focus. Burger burned to write a story for the site's front page and poured herself into the work, Gale said.

I can't say anything about this woman.

I can however note the sort of temperament attracted to the Huffington Post.

Is that unfair?

Well, yet another HuffPoster has spun a paranoid fantasia about a coming right-wing coup, which of course is being eaten up by the insane HuffPo readership, so you tell me.

Something that disgusted me at the time, and still does, was Dennis Kucinich's cynical proposal of a federal ban against the government's funding of and use of voice to skull technology, or "V2K," which is a common delusion among schizophrenics.

In order to pander money out of these deluded souls, he proposed a bill that gave them the idea that their delusions of voices beamed into the head by Men in Black were real. Because, hey, if a Congressmen is actually proposing a bill, hey, it must be real!

He reinforced the sad delusions of schizophrenics.

Just. To Pander. Money. From the mentally ill.

Huffington Post does the same crap.

"Unclear:" The Huffington Post seems to have, as usual, secret information unknown to the unilluminated sheeple.

The circumstances of her death remain unclear; police believe she may have taken her own life after learning that her roommate - and former partner - had been found dead.

By the way, the Huffington Post will react in horror that Burger isn't being given proper respect by the right blogosphere.

Well, here's the skinny on that: While obviously mentally ill, her last act before suicide was to commit murder.

So, yeah, sorry you lost a writer and all, but I'm afraid we really can't be as respectful as we might like about a murderer.

Sad, yes. Tragic, even. But do spare me, Huffington Post, your righteous indignation about not giving a murderer a respectful send-off.

Thanks to WillA for that.

A secret underground garage to hide this guy's two Lamborghinis.

But Lamborghinis are meant to be seen, right? I guess that's why he hid his Lamborghinis under (presumably) fake Lamborghinis.

Seems to me that he would have been better off hiding them under fake Chevettes, but then, I think he's trying to hide them like Obama's trying to hide his socialism.

Confessions of a Concern Troll?
— Ace

I'm suspicious, as this is anonymous and tracks so perfectly with what I believe.

Then again, it tracks perfectly with what I believe.

We do know we have organized concern trolls popping up on blogs to say things like, "The Marist poll puts Obama ahead of McCain by seventeen million points... (Heavy sigh) I wonder if I should even vote."

Right.

At any rate, here's a confession, purportedly, from one of Axelrod's Axelturfers, from Hillbuzz. more...

Obama Speechwriter Defects to McCain; Somehow I Don't Think She'll Become the Toast of the Liberal Media
— Ace

Not important, you see. Only Chris Buckley and Kathleen "Who?" Parker get the superstar treatment.

This is what the Democratic Party has been for me; itÂ’s family. Now, it doesnÂ’t even feel like a distant cousin.

...

The final straw came the other week when Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher (a.k.a Joe the Plumber) asked a question about higher taxes for small businesses. Instead of celebrating his aspirations, they were mocked. He wasn’t “a real plumber,” and “They’re fighting for Joe the Hedge-Fund manager,” and the patronizing, “I’ve got nothing but love for Joe the Plumber.”

Having worked in politics, I know that absolutely none of this is on the level. This back and forth is posturing, a charade, and a political game. These lines are what I refer to as “hooker lines”—a sure thing to get applause and the press to scribble as if they’re reporting meaningful news.

...

The party I believed in wouldnÂ’t look down on working people under any circumstance. And Joe the Plumber is right. This is the absolutely worst time to raise taxes on anyone: the rich, the middle class, the poor, small businesses and corporations.

Our economy is in the tank for many complicated reasons, especially because people don’t have enough money. So let them keep it. Let businesses keep it so they can create jobs and stay here and weather this storm. And yet, the Democratic ideology remains the same. Our approach to problems—big government solutions paid for by taxing the rich and big and smaller companies—is just as tired and out of date as trickle down economics. How about a novel approach that simply finds a sane way to stop the bleeding?

That’s not exactly the philosophy of a Democrat. Not only has this party belittled working people in this campaign from Joe the Plumber to the bitter comments, it has also been part of tearing down two female candidates. At first, certain Democrats and the press called Senator Clinton “dishonest.” They went after her cleavage. They said her experience as First Lady consisted of having tea parties. There was no outrage over “Bros before Hoes” or “Iron My Shirt.” Did Senator Clinton make mistakes? Of course. She’s human.

But here we are about a week out and it’s déjà vu all over again. Really, front-page news is how the Republican National Committee paid for Governor Sarah Palin’s wardrobe? Where’s the op-ed about how Obama tucks in his shirt when he plays basketball or how Senator Biden buttons the top button on his golf shirt?

Barney Frank: People Are Blaming Me For the Subprime Crisis Because I'm Gay, and Not Because I Blocked Reform and Determined We Should "Roll the Dice in Favor of Affordable Housing"
— Ace

I'm gay. Of course I couldn't possibly be to blame.

Frank yesterday dismissed McCain's words as "an appeal to prejudice" that he said reminded him of past Republican efforts to raise voter concerns about the prospect of congressmen Charles Rangel and John Conyers, who are black, becoming committee chairs.

"I'm flattered by this," said Frank, who is gay. "But I don't think I'm the single most important member of the House after Nancy Pelosi. There are also a lot of straight white men who are committee chairmen."

Not only that, he's claiming he's actually led the attempts to reform the supbrime market.

Ahem.

His "reform" consisted entirely of his idee fixe -- limiting pay for CEOs.

Here are some of Barney Frank's -- and his Democratic friends' -- attempts at "reform."

"This hearing is about the political lynching of Franklin Raines."

Well. If Barney Frank isn't accusing people of homophobia, his allies on the committee are accusing people of racism.

And ACORN... Racist.

You Know Who's Not Homophobic? The financial industry, Barney Frank's top source of money in 2007-2008.

And 2005-2006.

And second-place in 2004. First place? Commercial banks.

The Deck of High Value Subprime Crisis Villains: Up to Maxine Waters.

He's holding out on Frank because it's such a sweet card, but I think he should post it tonight.

The Hill Picks Up $175,000 Bounty for Obama/Ayers/Dohrn/Khalidi Tape
— Ace

Just noting what you already know.

They keep forgetting to add in my (well, your) $25,000.

So it should be $200,000.

Okay, Okay... Look, as this isn't my tip, I can't vouch for Director Blue's source.

I have a bit of trouble believing his source saw the tape. Though I suppose the tipster could be an annoyed reporter at the Los Angeles Times. That possibility aside, I have trouble imagining scenarios in which he'd have been shown the tape, but wouldn't have a copy of it himself.

But since everyone's emailing me, here are a couple of quotes from the tape, purportedly.
