Reporter Dishing Palin Dirt: No, It's Not Former Romney Aides
— Ace

As I spread this rumor myself, I owe it to Romney and his supporters to put up a main-post about this. Not Romneyites.

Note that Red State now says they've "confirmed" that Wallace and Schmidt are two of the three backbiters.

Shocker: Franken Stealing Minnesota Election
— Ace

100 votes suddenly discovered. Every one for Franken and Obama. Every one.

Hey, I've got 1000 votes for Coleman in my rumpus room. Sorry, I forgot to deliver them previously. Where shall I bring them?

The Minnesota GOP can probably use some money for lawyers.

Thanks to DanF and Marian.

Donate to Coleman: at the button on the right.

Joe has written the MN GOP to put up a special legal-fight donations button. Hopefully they'll get that up soon.

Foreign Policy Adviser For McCain/Palin: Shut Up, She's Not An Idiot
— DrewM

Lots of nameless weasels are spreading stories around about how dumb Palin is. Well, Steve Biegun, the guy in charge of briefing her on foreign policy, went on the record with Rich Lowry and calls the stories about Palin's alleged stupidity "absurd".

In general, according to Beigun, Palin had a steep learning curve on foreign issues, about what you would expect from a governor. But she has "great instincts and great core values," and is "an instinctive internationalist."

Follow the link for a rundown and refutation of some of the more scurrilous accusations.

A note to the McCain staffers spreading this shit...at least Palin had the guts to go out there and try to salvage your shit for brains campaign. So come on you brave backstabbing jackasses, man up and put your name to your charges like Biegun did with his defense of Palin. Or don't you have the stones to do it?

McCain's Silence
— Dave in Texas

Check out Cuffy's video of McCain on "Honor". Allah suggests two possible reasons for McCain's silence on the leakers, he's either too busy or in no hurry to do so.

Well it's not like we didn't know he has an ego. But as John Cornyn will tell you, he really does know how to say "shut the fuck up". He needs to say it again.

Robert Byrd Resigns Committee Chair - [Cuffy Meigs]
— Open Blog

The largest hog finally takes his snout out of the largest trough, resigning his chairmanship over Pork Central the Senate Appropriations Committee:

Mr. Byrd said that the time had come for new leadership, and that he would turn over the reins of the Appropriations Committee to Senator Daniel K. Inouye of Hawaii, who is next in line and who turned 84 in September. Mr. Byrd will remain a member of the committee and will continue to serve as the SenateÂ’s president pro tempore.

...

Mr. Reid issued a statement praising the West Virginia senator who is well-known for directing untold billions in federal spending to his home state over the decades.

And then we get this standard banality:

Mr. Byrd who is serving his ninth term in the Senate, gets around the Capitol in a wheelchair, but he continues to be a formidable force and one of the most eloquent voices in the chamber, often delivering impassioned speeches that hearken to an earlier era when rhetorical flourishes were a matter of deep pride and when senators spent far more time listening to one another in person rather than monitoring floor proceedings from their office by watching C-Span.

Really?

Overnight Miscellaneous Whatever Thread (genghis)
— Open Blog

Where you discuss LauraWÂ’s hump and other important political topics. And because Tom has nowhere else to elaborate on why the lottery numbers in Illinois are adding up to 666.

Also a place to post your meetup pics, assuming you ever actually leave your house/apartment/bunker/cardboard box underneath a freeway offramp. ItÂ’s all good.

There was a meetup in Seattle tonight, but according to my online police scanner, things went a little off kilter.

Arraignments are scheduled for Monday morning.

An Erection (genghis)
— Open Blog

(well, thatÂ’s what they call it gutter-brains)

Just something to cheer you up as you peel yourselves off the floor and away from the disgusting mess you left there in the spot you passed out in last night. Open the windows and get out the cans of Lysol. It wonÂ’t help much, but at least itÂ’s a start.

On Friday I attended a “topping-out” ceremony for a building for which I was project manager (architect), though that’s not the point. That’s where they raise the last and highest piece of steel framing on the building. Everyone involved in the project, from the owner/developer down to the lowliest construction clean-up guy gets to sign their name on the last beam to go into place. By tradition, the Ironworkers attach a fir tree and an American flag to the beam (though that is one sad looking fir tree). I have no idea what the fir tree symbolizes because I’m too lazy to look it up. If you know, school us in the comments.

Then they hoist and place the beam. (note: on this project, the beam in question isnÂ’t actually the top-most beam or the last one to be put into place, so go figure). ItÂ’s also a good opportunity to have an utterly hideous catered bbq lunch. How the fuck can one single caterer destroy so many potentially succulent meats in a single blow? If they can wipe out chicken, ribs and pulled pork, what might they do to bacon, that most indestructible of meats?

But besides the flag and stuff, these ironworkers have to be some of the ballsiest people IÂ’ve ever seen. With just a tether and nothing else they roam around on 6 inch wide beams like they were walking down a sidewalk, but at 17 stories above the ground. Regardless of what you think about construction unions (Or any union for that matter. Well, except for govt. employee unionsÂ…after all, they slave away all day in the vast bureaucratic paper mines), those guys are pretty amazing to watch in action.

All of the above is just an excuse to post a nice picture of said beam being hoisted. It's also probably fair to say that at least 95% of the people in this photo own a firearm of some sort, so that gives me warm fuzzy feelings.

A couple more pics below the fold.

Overnight War Porn/Gun Control Thread [Vinnie]

We morons here covet gun control. In the sense that "gun control" means being able to hit your target. Here are some wonderful examples of gun control set to music. Enjoy it while you can, only God oops, not allowed under Obama. Let me try that again.

Enjoy it while you can, only Rev. Wright knows if we'll be killing terrorists after January 20th, 2009.

Vid(s) under the fold.
