Root for the Redskins
— Ace

It's that weird indicator again -- when the Redskins win their final home game before the election, the incumbent party wins the White House.

Already Covered by Gabe... And as readers note, this indicator failed in 2004.

Eh, good. I didn't want to vote for those guys anyhow.

Obama on His Plan to "Skyrocket" the Cost of Electricity
— Ace

It was covered here earlier by Kat-Mo, but it's important enough to link again.

Yes, he's a true believer. Command economy. He thinks it's "critical" we cause electricity rates to to "skyrocket" in order to force people to conserve.

This demonstrates that his quote about rising gas rates -- where he was saddened not that they were so high, but merely that they rose to those levels too quickly -- is in fact his actual thinking.

He wants higher energy costs as a method of combating global warming. A "war" he takes far more seriously than the two real wars we're fighting.

Also Covered... by Dave in Texas and Nice Deb.

Sigh. This really would have been more helpful six months ago.

A Little History
— Slublog

Have I mentioned how much I love the PUMAs?

Just a few reminders of what was being said before the 2004 election:

Zogby's call? Kerry, 311; Bush, 213.

The electoral vote call made by one of those aggregating sites?
Electoral Vote (based on composite polls) - Kerry 298, Bush 231

NBC's Chuck Todd was so confident of a Kerry win, he called the race in May 2004:

If you look at key indicators beyond the neck-and-neck support for the two candidates in the polls--such as high turnout in the early Democratic primaries and the likelihood of a high turnout in November--it seems improbable that Bush will win big. More likely, it's going to be Kerry in a rout.
Seems his "first read" was a wrong one.

Polls are not science, pundits are not psychic and nothing is decided until the final ballot is cast tomorrow.

Or, in the event of a narrow McCain win, until the Obama lawyers lose their final appeal to the Supreme Court.

Obama Whines Again (Kat-Mo)
— Open Blog

I'll try not to take over the entire blog, but I just caught this. Obama whines to Katie Couric that some "right wing, republican media outlet" (Fox?) went after his wife.

What a piece of utter, hypocritical crap. He had his wife out giving stump speeches as if she were his quasi Vice President. She was legitimately lambasted for her comments on his candidacy, America and the elections in general. At no time was his wife personally attacked. Unlike the egregious personal attacks unleashed on Palin regarding her children, the parentage of, the parenting of, her clothing, her looks or anything else. You couldn't get any more personal than a detailed debate about whether her decision to fly on an airplane to get home and have her baby in Alaska might be related to his down syndrome condition (that is what was implied). I was really starting to expect a detailed account of how often she shaves her.

But, to be fair, that's comparing apples to oranges.

If we look at the treatment of Cindy McCain recently with the old implications of cheating, drug abuse and implications of mental issues, there is still no comparison. Nobody has as yet asked whether Michelle Obama participated in the drug taking admitted to by her husband in his biography. Hell, nobody has even really investigated Obama's use or any other related topic.

But, we know what awaits Fox. They are already getting the treatment. Obama won't come on any of the Fox shows. He will go to his patron, GE's station and Obama unofficial official campaign station, MSNBC and get stupid questions about his illegal aunt from Katie Couric when somebody should be asking if he actually sat down and did the math on his economic plan.

He has three network channels and at least two cable network channels in his pocket, along with untold numbers of newspapers, and he is complaining about being attacked by some "right wing, Republican station". The one voice in the wilderness that actually challenges his views.

Sounds like somebody needs the "WWAAAMBULANCE!"

Minnessota in Play ?(Kat-Mo)
— Open Blog

Since the comments are already going crazy, let me put up a little link to Hot Air North showing Minnessota within the margin of error.

60 hours until votes are counted in Minnesota, Barack ObamaÂ’s advantage over John McCain is back inside the margin of sampling error, according to SurveyUSAÂ’s final look at one of 2008Â’s most interesting states. Obama 49%, McCain 46%, in interviewing underwritten by KSTP-TV in Minneapolis, WDIO-TV Duluth and KAAL-TV Rochester, 10/30/08 through 11/01/08. Obama led by 6 two weeks ago, now by 3. The late break to the GOP is occurring among men and seniors.

Read ye, KOS kids, and weep.

Out of Context (Kat-Mo)
— Open Blog

So, Obama and his campaign think they are going to spin their way out of the last little surprise from Obama's past. In response to the audio coming out indicating Obama is willing to see energy prices for consumers "skyrocket" in order to force coal plants out of existence with unprecedented "cap and trade" taxation, Obama's campaign team responds it was "taken out of context". Why?

because in the interview Obama said that “this notion of no coal, I think is an illusion.” Obama and McCain have both pushed for technology to develop cleaner burning coal. “What we have to do then is figure out how can we use coal without emitting greenhouse gases and carbon,” Obama told the Chronicle in the interview.

Right. The only issue here is the alleged destruction of energy producing coal plants. Not that, that isn't egregious enough. But let's stick to the real point here. While driving these businesses out of business, he's willing to see energy prices "sky rocket", making it extremely difficult for the average citizen to continue heating their homes. We are talking about 100% increase in energy bills, if not higher. As if the recent horrifying spike in oil prices hadn't already driven energy prices higher by up to 50% in the last two years.

He's not just talking about bankrupting energy companies that don't meet his standards, he's talking about energy prices that will drive other businesses out of business and destroy jobs. He's talking about making it hard for even middle class families to heat and cool their homes. He's talking about possibly creating a second economic crisis that will drive even more people into foreclosure and bankruptcy. And, let's not forget the elderly and others on fixed incomes.

How is Obama planning to offset this horrific rate hike? more...

Overnight Thread

And why not one more open thread for you late-night/overseas chatterers. Feels like Atrios around here, doesn't it? Consider this the calm before the storm.

Here's a thought: So Armstrong thinks he's going to do it again?

Just let it go, man. If you were doping, so what? Everyone else did. If you weren't, good job. You won over and over and you ended on a good note. Going again like this proves nothing...except that you're actively campaigning for that asterisk to stick next to your career.
