Kid's Question To Bill Clinton: "What Do You Do When You Get Married?"
— Ace

Brya just snagged MSNBC's edited video, so it's not great. Hopefully we'll have the full video later -- from FoxNews, I'm guessing.

So you don't yet see Bill's answer, which I imagine involves hookers and Jarts.

Vid: Jeff Sessions On His Questionnaire
— Ace

He broke everything down into simple yes-or-no questions to prevent equivocation and evasion.

We'll see how that works.

I'll have a little something to say about this right before the debate.

And oh yeah, here's vid of Maverick McAmnesty once again defending his amnesty policy by noting an MIA soldier's wife is an illegal alien.

Um, jackass? There are about ten cases of that and I'm pretty sure we can create a narrow law about those cases. Hell, we can just have a private law granting each soldier's close family members legal status.

(Private law refers to very minor laws -- you never hear about these -- creating micro laws usually affecting one or two or three people. So Congress can pass a "private law" handing out cash to someone wronged by government or the like.)

30 Al Qaeda Die of Global Warming and Task Force 88, But Mostly Task Force 88
— Ace

Damn, we just made even more terrorists!

Iraqi and Coalition forces continue to press the fight against al Qaeda in Iraq in the northeastern province of Diyala, where the terror group maintains small pockets. In the latest series of raids as part of Operation Raider Harvest, Iraqi and US forces killed 30 al Qaeda operatives and captured 21, including a senior al Qaeda leader, during raids and operations.

On Jan. 22 and Jan. 23, special operations teams of Task Force 88 carried out two raids north of Baqubah. The first raid targeted "an improvised explosive device specialist involved in coordinating IED and suicide-vest attacks in the region ... with ties to several al Qaeda in Iraq senior leaders." The Special Forces team killed the high-value target and one other operative during the raid, and found improvised explosive devices and grenades at the scene.

Task Force 88 returned to the region the next day seeking a second al Qaeda leader. Ten al Qaeda fighters were killed in airstrikes after manning fighting position, and another three were killed by ground fire as they moved to attack the Special Forces teams. As they secured the building used by the terrorists, Coalition forces found “machine guns, military style assault vests, rocket propelled grenade propellant and various ammunition," Multinational Forces Iraq reported. "Nearby, the ground force discovered additional weapons caches to include rocket propelled grenades, artillery and mortar rounds, improvised IEDs, and suicide-vest materials."

Further north in the Miqdadiyah district, 15 al Qaeda fighters were killed and 20 more were captured during an operation in Sharaban....

Iraqi police also arrested Fawzi Abdel al Aziz, also known as Abu Yaser, during a raid in the village of Abu al Tamir in the district of Khalis. Yaser is "a senior al-Qaeda commander wanted for involvement in a number of killings and forcible relocation [ethnic cleansing] operations," Diyala's chief of police told Voices of Iraq.

I'm just curious what the "anti-war" left imagines these solid citizens might be up to if they didn't have our soldiers all up in their grill on a daily basis. Just farming, maybe? Working the night shift in Pappy's shoe-cobbling business? Getting their certification in heating and air conditioning from the DeVries Institute?

Macaca Moment!: Racist Pastor Supporting Republican President Announces To Denomination That A Black Man Can't Be Elected President; Congregation Shouts Approval
— Ace

Damn, this is going to hurt.

Oh, wait, no it won't. The media won't cover it at all. Because the remark wasn't said to a Republican candidate. It was said to Bill Clinton, supporting his wife.

Couple of points for the sake of fairness. First, Clinton responded appropriately enough:

Clinton responded, "First of all, as an American, I have to tell you I hope you're not right."

Second, of course, the story was reported by the MSM-- barely. Fournier writes it up for his AP semi-blog.

Still, I tend to think the coverage here would be slightly more intense if it had been a Republican addressing this church.

In related news, Clinton accused Obama of executing a "hit job" on himself and his pretend wife:

A poisonous new exchange erupted on the Democratic campaign trail Wednesday as former president Bill Clinton accused his wife's chief rival Barack Obama of a political "hit job."

Hillary Clinton insisted that Democratic wounds would heal in time for the party to recapture the White House in November's election, but the bad blood was spilt anew as Obama himself came out firing against his tag-team opponents.

The running battles on the Democratic stump have sparked disquiet among party grandees heading into South Carolina's Democratic primary on Saturday and a slew of contests in more than 20 states on "Super Tuesday," February 5.

But the former president, stumping in South Carolina on his wife's behalf, hurled a venomous new broadside against Obama.

"I never heard a word of public complaint when Mr. Obama said Hillary was not truthful, no character, was poll-driven," he told startled reporters.

"When he put out a hit job on me at the same time he called her the senator from Punjab, I never said a word," he said, referring to an Obama campaign memo last year that attacked the Clintons' links to the Indian-American community.

"Shame on you!" the former president exclaimed, berating the reporters for picking up on Obama's attacks instead of focusing on the issues that he said mattered, such as the faltering US economy.

Just a little reminder that we're not the only ones having a bruising, bloodying primary process.

Hot Chicks at Pro-Life Rally
— Ace

I'd link the dorky-cute nun, but I think that would be a sin.

prolifecutie.jpg

I guess there's not much reason to link this. But you know, the MSM does such wall-to-wall coverage of pro-life rallies that I almost feel forced to, you know? The Deciders have decided: Front page coverage for all right-leaning rallies.

Thanks to MichaelR.

Even More Straight Talk
— Ace

This is a old lefty hit on McCain, but it underscores the basic dishonesty of the guy.

"Straight Talk" is merely code for "I will screw over the Republicans with relish and give them the 'Straight Talk' that they're wrong and I'm going to make sure they'll lose."

It does not mean "I'll always tell the truth, no matter how it might hurt me." Because when John McCain's personal fortunes are on the line, "Straight Talk" acquires a Stretch Armstrong bendy/flexible nature.

Pay special attention to his early predictions of a quick and painless war in Iraq -- and his later statements that of course he always knew the war would be long and painful.

George Bush didn't sell us a quick and easy war. McCain did. And worse, his ego is so outsized he won't confess his error on this. He simply claims he knew it all along -- making his previous statements, what? Certainly not Straight Talk.

Thanks to Dan Riehl, who notes Rush Limbaugh is demanding some real Straight Talk from McCain.

And he also notes the MSM's curious headlines for polls showing a Romeny surge in Florida: McCainRising.

The MSM does love them some "Straight Talk."

I wouldn't mind Straight Talk myself if occasionally the "hard truths" McCain goes on Hardball to express sometimes cut into the Democrats.

Someone Else Died Two Days Ago, Too
— Ace

I'm as guilty as the MSM, I admit:

I guess the irony came as I happened to look away from the TV and onto the page of the USA Today I was reading. Page 8A. A small box in the middle of the page which held 4 names. Names of troops killed in Iraq. One name caught my eye. SSG Justin R. Whiting, 27, of Hancock, NY.

The reason his name caught my eye initially was his age. He was a year younger than Heath Ledger. I read the short description in the box for Justin Whiting.

"died Saturday in Mosul from wounds suffered when his vehicle struck an improvised explosive device; 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne)."

That's it. That's all. Page 1D and 4D in the paper were all about Heath Ledger. Whiting got a sentence.

But that sentence said a lot about Justin Whiting. A 27 year old SSG, he was one sharp soldier. That's a fairly young age to make that rank. And, of course he was a paratrooper. In fact, I'd bet my bottom dollar he had served with either the 82nd Airborne Division or the 173rd Airborne Brigade - or both.

And he was Special Forces. He had earned and wore the coveted green beret. He was quite a young man and I know all of that from that one simple sentence, because I know what it took to be where he was, wearing the rank and beret he wore at his age.

Anger Management Teacher Breaks Kid's Finger
— Dave In Texas

"Tap out or something breaks".

Scott Porter recently broke an index finger of Jordan Mundy (pictured) as they were wrestling each other during an anger-management class, Jordan and the school's principal said.

"It did start off as kind of a fun horseplay type of incident. Whether or not somebody got angry during that altercation is what is in dispute right now," Principal Charles Bollinger told 6News' Rick Hightower on Wednesday.

I've often thought the best way I could manage my anger is to bust a bone in whoever was pissing me off.

It just calms you down, you know?

tip: James, who's still pretty dang mad about the Rams.

They Made Winehouse Go To Rehab, Oh, Oh, Oh
— Ace

Yeah, she smoked crack on camera, and her dad had to come and force his way into her house to try to keep her from doing other crazy shit.

Gabriel Malor sent this; he didn't know who she was. Well, she's an oddball, drug-addicted British singer with a fair amount of talent and a strange retro style (see this video, in which she proudly declares she don' wanna go to rehab, sounding like she just walked out of 1964). She cancels a lot of her shows because she "doesn't feel well" (i.e., she's too high to even stand) and she sometimes curses her fans and gives them the finger and leaves after half a slurred song.

In other words, she's actually living the Ace of Spades Lifestyle. Whether or not she'll survive that much longer is anyone's guess.

I guess I'm explaining this because basically she's tabloid trash and will probably die within a year or two so you might as well know who she is in time for her next scheduled overdose.

I don't mean to be callous, but it's not an "if," it's a "when." The rehab won't work; she'll be booting smack while she's there.

Drugs Ain't Cool: The after and before (yeah, stupid order) of Amy Winehouse.

It looks like she dropped about 50 pounds, but I think the ink from all the tatoos adds about half of that back.

John Gibson Goes Shock Jock After Ledger Death: "Well, I Guess He Knew How To Quit You"
— Ace

I'm not big on good taste, but I really have no idea why Gibson would go so hard after Heath Ledger.

I could see a radio host failing to show adequate sensitivity if, say, Michael Moore keeled over from choking on Ding Dong. But Heath Ledger? It's not as if the entire rightwing were in a froth from all those horrible slanders he'd thrown at conservatives. As far as I know, his big political statements were appearing as a gay cowboy eating pudding in a greatly overrated vanity project and doing drugs. Though on the latter, he kept it discreet. Until he died.

I'm not even sure we know yet if the death was drug-induced.

Anyway, far be it from me to scold John Gibson over some ill-advised remarks. But I don't get the shock jock chuckling thing when a fairly anodyne guy dies. A joke in poor taste should be funny enough to justify itself -- you can't fight the funny -- but just tossing out a somewhat-gloating ha-ha over a guy's death doesn't seem to rise to that level.

Eh, not the biggest deal. These guys have hours to fill and they don't work off of scripts, mostly. We all say crap like this all the time, but we're usually not miked up and broadcasting to hundreds of thousands of people when we do.
