Ron Paul's Rally In Stormwind, Azeroth
— Ace

That's a place in World of Warcraft, a game which consists primarily for 13 year ols to screen-cap and then set to bad music.

So, Ron Paul's Endless Moron Legions marched through an imaginary world in order to prove, I don't know, something.

More dorky videos here. This article says about 240 players showed up to march across an imaginary continent; this one notes the rally faced a lot of hecklers.

Thanks to Derek and Mr. Snuggle Bunny.

Republican Presidential Forum On FNC
— DrewM.

Because 2 debates in one night wasnÂ’t enough, the Republican candidates (sans Ron Paul!!!111!!!) are getting together for another go round at 8pm EST.

I am not sure what else they will get into tonight that they didnÂ’t cover in 90 minutes last night. Perhaps Maverick and the Huckster can continue their tag team effort against Romney.

If you can't get it on cable, you can see the live stream at FoxNews.com.

Change! is a big theme tonight. Last night's talk of change and change making reminded tmi3rd of this. I think it sums up Change Mania!

UPDATE [Dave in Texas]: The Titans - Chargers game was the perfect warmup for this. I'm stoked!

Hillary Imports Supporters To Fluff Up Her Rally
— LauraW.

Christina Bellantoni of the Washington Times was struck by the attendance of far more Hillary supporters at a NH rally than there had been for Obama the day before.

Some of the folks said they were out-of-staters who had been contacted by Hillary's people to come show their enthusiasm in Nashua.

She started to say she was impressed by "the numbers of people who have come on their own from New York" and was interrupted by wild cheers.

On their own?

When the event ended I talked to some of the out-of-staters, including Julia Fuchs, 65 and a recent graduate student. She was about to board one of the [chartered] buses back to New York after spending two days in the Granite State for Clinton.

"We are crazy about her. We came here to stump for her, they told me where to go," she said. "The campaign paid for everything."[emph. mine]

Help me out here...does this kind of maneuver actually sway anybody?

Don't miss the reader comments at the bottom of the article.

Thanks, again, to genghis, and to larwyn.

"Kiss My Ass, Judge"
— Gabriel Malor

Continuing a theme we've discussed before, the South Carolina Court of Appeals upheld the contempt order for a woman who signed a court document with the words "Kiss my ass."

Circuit Judge Diane Goodstein found Judith Law in contempt and ordered her to serve 90 extra days. Law challenged the ruling, saying the contemptuous behavior happened outside the judge's view.

"No matter where Law signed the revocation order, her conduct was in the presence of the judge," the Appeals Court wrote in its decision last month.

As I wrote last time: it's a bad idea to piss off the judge.

Taser Parties
— LauraW.

Most sensible women groan when they get an invitation to a Partylite, Pampered Chef or Tupperware party. It's fuckin' annoying. Your cousin Jennifer decides she wants a bunch of stuff but she doesn't want to pay for it, so she invites friends and family over for a night of bullshit and highway robbery.

A Taser party is different.

For the woman who is squeamish about lethal force, but who still needs some reassuring power.

With its weapons dominant in law enforcement, Taser is turning its attention back to the civilian market.

It launched the C2 in August. Though it packs the same electric punch, the C2 is smaller than the bulky personal stun guns Taser developed years ago, and its sleek exterior makes it look more like an electric razor than a weapon. They're legal in every state but New York, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Michigan, Wisconsin, Hawaii, and Washington D.C.

Shafman says many of her women customers love that the C2 is small enough to fit in their purses, and that it comes in a variety of colors. When it comes to choosing weapons, she says, a lot of women want them in pink.

Amnesty International has posited its disapproval, saying that police have sometimes improperly used the weapon and that the public will too.

The same is true of nightsticks and knives, which is all that I suppose AI will want citizens to be able to protect themselves with, if at all.

Thanks to genghis, who says "Of course anything that pisses of Amnesty International is good in my book."

UPDATE/ TANGENT: Yet another fatal stabbing in London prompts some to call for even tougher anti-knife laws. In case you hadn't heard, the UK already has strict anti-knife laws, and laws against carrying any object that could somehow be used to inflict harm. If you use even your umbrella as a defensive weapon to protect yourself or your property, you could go to jail.

Norman Brennan, of the Knives Destroy Lives Campaign, reiterated his demand for a mandatory five-year prison sentence for anyone who carries a knife unreasonably. His call came as Islington borough police commander Bob Carr called for automatic prison sentences for anyone found carrying a knife.

Too many laws against weapons, and not enough action against criminals.

Knives do indeed destroy lives. That's why criminals carry them. When knives are outlawed, only outlaws w-- AWWW the Hell with it.

Automatic punishment means no common sense or thinking required, which is what makes it so attractive.

Carry on, then. Let's see what you do when your dear old mum is apprehended carrying a bag of apples and a paring knife over to the neighbor's place.

Couple Campaign Pics
— LauraW.

Heh. Eh heh heh heh.

Slogging through Yahoo News Photos, I couldn't help but notice that the overwhelming majority of pics were of Obama or his supplicating supporters. Just smatterings of the other candidates in between shot after shot of glorious Barack and his enraptured audiences.

The media has chosen?

Below the fold, a very flattering shot of Giuliani, who has unfortunately been scarce in all but the most the recent slideshows at Yahoo. more...

Chinese Hackers Step Up Activity
— LauraW.

Pennsylvania's government website had to be shut down Friday, as it was being hacked from a domain in China.

It is not unusual for the state's computer system to be the target of hackers, but having problems at four separate branches of state government prompted the decision to take down nearly the entire system, she said.

DeVane said Pennsylvania's information technology officers learned during a conference call held by the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center that four other states and one state university had been attacked in a similar manner.

Chinese hackers have been attacking US and other nations' government agencies and large corporations, this is nothing new. But it looks like they're becoming more prolific and obvious about it.

Recent TIME article on government-sponsored Chinese hackers.

That article is pretty cool because TIME actually met and sat down with some of these guys who won Chinese government-sponsored hacking competitions.

Though the evidence remains mostly circumstantial, a picture is emerging of a coordinated effort by Chinese-military authorities to recruit hackers such as Tan and his group to winkle out information from computer systems outside China and launch cyberattacks in future conflicts.

In June U.S. military officials said an attack from China had penetrated a computer system at the Pentagon--though nonclassified, it included a server used by the office of Defense Secretary Robert Gates. Beijing denies that it is behind hacker attacks. Jiang Yu, a spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry, described such reports as "wild accusations" and said they reflected a "cold war mentality."

Another interesting snippet.

Yuval Ben-Itzhak, chief technology officer for Finjan, a web security group with headquarters in San Jose, California, says his company is in the middle of a study into new hacking techniques that has found "a centralised group of activity based from China". "In the last three months, the attacks [from China] have almost tripled," he said.

The attacks use infected websites that download Trojans and then install them on users' computers. These then feed data to other websites, which monitor the attack and can refine it to secure desired information. Some use new and sophisticated techniques, including malware for which there is no security patch.

Yang Jiechi, China's foreign minister, denied his government supported computer hackers targeting UK companies. He said hacking was prohibited by Chinese law and that government websites also suffered attacks from hackers.

This is what it looks like when a developing nation is hellbent on supplanting us as the major world power. Too bad most of our hackers are busy attacking us, too.
