How Liberals Think [dri]
— Open Blog

This video has been on this site before but I am reposting it because it is simply one of the best and most informative dissections of the Leftist mindset. Please watch it for 5 minutes and I guarantee you will be hooked and will watch the whole thing. If you have seen it before, watch it again. It is important to refocus on how those who dislike our country think and what motivates them.

Magnificent Bastard Gives Dems Convention Advice [Cuffy Meigs]
— Open Blog

Will they heed Our Dark Lord?

Rule #1: Control the Convention Mechanism. If you set the rules, decide who votes, organize the event and control what is said, it's almost impossible to lose. So while Democratic National Committee chief Howard Dean is ostensibly in charge, both candidates would be well advised to gain control of the levers of the convention...Being able to decide what delegation sits where, who stays in which hotel, and who's able to get a pass to the gallery can help set the mood and tone of the delegates. Put your best delegations where they can hoot and holler for the cameras. Friends? Nice hotel near the convention center. Unfriendly delegation? How about that comfy Motel 6 near the airport?

Rove digs deep into convention history to provide insight and context. His last rule?
Rule #5: Focus on Staging. Conventions are elaborate made-for-TV productions. We live in a culture of the visual. Every moment and every event should be scripted.

GO BALLOONS!

Sadr Offers Truce In Basra
— DrewM

Things change fast in Iraq.

BAGHDAD - The Iraqi government has welcomed an order by Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr to pull his fighters off the streets.

Government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh told Iraqi state TV in an interview that the decision is "positive and responsive.

...Al-Sadr also called on the government to stop what he calls haphazard raids and release security detainees who haven't been charged.

It's clearly too soon to tell what this means. Sadr (well, his Iranian masters) could be playing some deep games here or they are getting their ass kicked or something else.

Personally, I thought this was an effort to piss in the soup ahead of Petraeus' upcoming testimony in Washington. If it was, did they miscalculate or think they made their point?

Global warming causes Antarctic volcanic activity
— Purple Avenger

Fear the long reach of global warming -- it has reached back 25 million years and triggered these monstrous events unfolding today. Rove needs to keep better track of the keys for the time machine. You know how devious and dangerous these adolescent miscreants like AGW can be when handed the keys to a kickass time machine and allowed to take it out for a spin.

The West Antarctic rift is a region of volcanic activity and crustal stretching that is roughly the size of the western United States (from Salt Lake City to the Pacific Ocean). About 98 percent of it is buried beneath glacial ice, up to 2.5 miles thick, and bedrock beneath the ice is 2000--3000 feet below sea level over large areas. All of this makes it a difficult region to study.

It is interesting nevertheless, because volcanic eruptions beneath the ice could destabilize the ice sheet, leading to as much as 25 feet of sea-level rise. How likely is it that this could happen is a question scientists have debated for over a decade...

...this study also shows that the land in West Antarctica has been rising beneath the ice sheet in some areas and subsiding beneath it in others, over roughly the past 25 million years.

Some areas have subsided to as much as 8500 feet below sea level.

This tectonic restlessness...and its affect on the history of the West Antarctic ice sheet has not yet been evaluated...

Can I get an Amen for Adultery? [krakatoa]
— Open Blog

I'm only posting this since religion is such a contentious topic the past couple days, and I'm really wanting to see some of you low-lifes banned for good. You're seriously cramping my efforts to get Nice Deb in the rack like the dirty, dirty whore that deep down, she really wants to be for me.

Well, that, and this is just funny as all hell.

Dear Dr. Graham: IÂ’ve fallen in love with a woman I work with, and I sincerely believe God brought us together. But my wife got very upset when she found out...

Believe it or not, it's not the Onion.

Well, At Least Somebody Is Prepared To Defend The Border [eddiebear]
— Open Blog

Sadly, it appears that since none of the three remaining Presidential candidates want to do anything to defend the U.S.-Mexico border or stem the flow of illegal immigrants. We all know about McCain's pro-Amnesty stance, and the two Democrats remaining strike me as eager to swell the ranks of the Democrat voter base.

But, never fear! The Mexican Government will send additional troops to the border. The main focus appears to be stopping thugs and drug-related violence from crossing from Juarez into the U.S.
And the Mexican Army is boasting:

Officials said the violence in Mexico has increased in large part to competing drug cartels.

"In this battle we will show that no criminal group is capable to resist the strength of the Mexican government," Interior Minister Juan Mourino said at a news conference Thursday.

Defense Secretary Guillermo Galvan said 2,026 soldiers, 180 military tactical vehicles, three airplanes and more than a dozen drug detection devices would be employed in the military operation.

I wonder if the Mexican Government will really go through with a sustained presence in Juarez, or if they will depart in a few weeks after the cameras disappear.

UK Bus Driver Kicks Passengers Off Bus...So He Can Pray! [Nice Deb]
— Open Blog

I'm not sure this story is a good idea so soon after the Fitna flap that had Ace so exercised, but maybe this could act as a good test post. There is nothing wrong with objecting to unreasonable intrusions of religion in public life, and that's what, IMHO this is:

The white Islamic convert rolled out his prayer mat in the aisle and knelt on the floor facing Mecca.

Passengers watched in amazement as he held out his palms towards the sky, bowed his head and began to chant.

One guy whipped out his cell phone to videotape the special moment from outside the bus. The video can be viewed at The Sun Online.

“Eventually everyone started complaining. One woman said, ‘What the hell are you doing? I’m going to be late for work’.”

After a few minutes the driver calmly got up, opened the doors and asked everyone back on board.

But when the already unnerved passengers saw the driverÂ’s rucksack on the floor, they refused to get back on.

“One chap said, ‘I’m not getting on there now’".

“An elderly couple also looked really confused and worried.

“After seeing that no-one wanted to get on he drove off and we all waited until the next bus came about 20 minutes later. I was left totally stunned. It made me not want to get on a bus again.”

Perhaps they were being paranoid. But as one person said in the comment section:

“you cant fault anyone for not wanting to get back on after the rucksack came out - the London bombings are still very much with the general public and it is a legitimate concern that we all have to live with. The world IS a much different place post 9-11/7-7…”

Also, judging from the comments, people would very much like to see this bus driver “sacked“.

I totally agree.
