Is Hugo Chavez About To Start A War In South America?
— DrewM

Idiotic statements and economic jackassery is one thing. Sending troops in to neighboring Colombia? That would take things to a whole new level.

Venezuela President Hugo Chavez ordered tank battalions to the Colombian border and mobilized warplanes on Sunday after Colombian troops struck inside Ecuador in an attack on rebels.

He also ordered the shutting of Venezuela's embassy in Colombia and the withdrawal of all diplomatic staff in the dispute, warning Colombia's actions could spark a war in South America.

"Mr. Defense Minister, move me 10 battalions to the frontier with Colombia immediately, tank battalions," Chavez said on his weekly TV show. "The air force should mobilize. We do not want war."

On TV? Um, okay Hugo.

Ed Morrissey at Hot Air thinks that if Chavez pulls the trigger and crosses the border into Colombia, the US might be forced to respond militarily.

Hugo is upset because Colombian armed forces killed one of the leaders of the FARC terrorist group. Raul Reyes, who Chavez has called, “a good revolutionary”, was hiding in Ecuador when Colombian troops made him an ‘ex-terrorist’.

Is Chavez really willing to start a regional war in defense of a terrorist group? Sadly, I wouldnÂ’t put it past this nut job.

I hope somebody asks the Obamassiah what heÂ’d say to Chavez about this.

The Kivalina Hustle [dri]
— Open Blog

Photobucket

The Center on Race, Poverty, and the Environment is up to their old tricks once again, this time suing a slew of energy companies over the alleged damage their products have caused to the Earth Goddess Gaia (P.B.U.H.). The San Francisco based law firm, the Native American Rights Fund, plus six other law firms have joined the suit on behalf of the tiny Alaskan village of Kivalina against the regionÂ’s most evil oil, power and coal companies. The Plaintiffs claim that emissions from those power companies have contributed to global warming and that as a result of those effects, the village and its inhabitants must be moved 7.5 miles away.

In addition, the suit seeks damages for an alleged conspiracy by several of the defendants to "create a false scientific debate" regarding global warming and that they" formed and used front groups, fake citizen’s organizations and bogus scientific bodies ....” to further their evil, earth destroying plans.

Democrats Get Tough On Illegals... By Punishing Them With Amnesty
— Ace

See, they're not offering to make illegals legal -- nay, they're requiring them to be legal.

I would quote Kaus but the post is so short I'd be stealing the guts of it. It's worth a read, the rhetorical slight of hand that the Democrats are using. They're not offering amnesty-- that would be "weak on illegals."

Instead, they will get medieval on illegals by demanding illegals accept amnesty, damnit, even if they don't want it!

See how that works? They're not giving lawbreakers amnesty; they're busting out a can of Forcible Amnesty whoop-ass.

It's such a stupid and transparent rhetorical dodge that only a liberal could be arrogant enough to think it could possibly work.

As always I am reminded of the perceptive quote from Douglas Adams Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency: "You're a clever man. But you assume that because you are clever everyone else must be stupid."

A Leader of Al Qaeda in Iraq Leader Killed By Curiosity And A US Guided Missile. But mostly A US Guided Missile
— DrewM

The son of a bitch was responsible for at least 5 American deaths.

U.S. Navy Rear Adm. Gregory Smith said Jar Allah, also known as Abu Yasir al-Saudi, and another Saudi known only as Hamdan, were both killed Wednesday in Mosul.

Al-Saudi was the man who headed up the al-Qaida network in southeast Mosul, an insurgent hotbed where U.S. forces wage daily battles against the group.

"Mosul is the center of al-Qaida's terrorist activities today. Mosul is a critical crossroads for al-Qaida in Iraq. Baghdad has always been al-Qaida's operational center of gravity, but Mosul remains their strategic center of gravity as it provides access to the flow of foreign fighters," Smith said.

Â…"It is their strategic center of gravity. One-half to two-thirds of attacks in Iraq today are in and around Mosul," Smith said.

These two late scumbags bring the number of al Qaeda killed or captured in Mosul alone since January to 142.

Oh and for those Democrats who some how think that al Qaeda fighters in Iraq are different from ‘the real ones’ in Afghanistan.…al-Saudi was there training and fighting late last year. It doesn’t matter where they are, it just matters that we kill them.

Am I the only moron who's been constantly refreshing in the first few days of the NFL free agency period? (While being glad I'm not a Raiders or Niners fan.)

Yeah, probably. I know the rest of you are all playing 4E at the "D&D Experience".

Meanwhile, after a rough Super Bowl, Bart's fantasies are finally coming true.

UPDATE: It's old, but still true (thanks to a commenter at Karol's): Patriots' Season Perfect For Rest Of Nation.

I know a lot of you morons already heard that the International Prototype Kilogram has been, um, evaporating or something.

Sheesh, you'd think they'd put the bong and tweezers away for the picture

Even I already knew this, and I'm a retarded snaggle-toothed hunchback.

But it's an uninspiring blogging day, so this post is for those of you who are not so geeky that this is old news, but geeky enough that this is still interesting.

Now, two U.S. professors -- a physicist and mathematician -- say it's time to define the kilogram in a new and more elegant way that will be the same today, tomorrow and 118 years from now. They've launched a campaign aimed at redefining the kilogram as the mass of a very large -- but precisely-specified -- number of carbon-12 atoms.

"Our standard would eliminate the need for a physical artifact to define what a kilogram is," said Ronald F. Fox, a Regents' Professor Emeritus in the School of Physics at the Georgia Institute of Technology. "We want something that is logically very simple to understand."

Their proposal is that the gram -- 1/1000th of a kilogram -- would henceforth be defined as the mass of exactly 18 x 14074481 (cubed) carbon-12 atoms.

You know what would be funny? If they found out years later that the redundant glass domes are actually causing the loss of mass somehow.

At the link, another story on what the Australians plan to do about it.
Silicon sphere, baby. Oh yeah.

Women And Minorities Hardest Hit [eddiebear]
— Open Blog

I know the title is an old joke in conservative circles to describe how the Mainstream Media frames almost every story, but this story and the above listed title meld perfectly. It seems the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) will cut food aid shipments to some of the poorest countries in the world due to rising food costs.

Well, that truly is sad, but what are the culprits here? My meager knowledge of economics tells me that when demand increases more than the available supply, prices will increase, a little tidbit missing from this story. And I would wager that one of the factors behind the "soaring" costs of corn are tied to the demands to produce E85 and other ethanol products in this country.

And who is pushing for this E85? Why, the environmentalist wackos, of course. But I get the feeling they don't give a shit that their precious hybrid fuels and cars are helping starve poor people in Africa.

Moderate-to-Strong Content Warning. Cracked presents the secret behind the world's greatest magic trick.

Do magicians suck the barbed cock of Satan? Apparently so.

Thanks to Craig C.

Also Amusing: Some eBay joker is auctioning the right to give Barack Hussein Obama a new middle name, because we're apparently not allowed to say Barack Hussein Obama, much like Beetlejuice.
