San Francisco to install "homeless" parking meters
— Purple Avenger

Just another insane leftard feel good measure for sure.

Rather than tossing loose change into a panhandler's empty cup, San Francisco officials want you instead to slide your spare quarters and nickels into a homeless meter.

The city's latest attempt to deal with one of its most vexing problems will be announced in coming weeks in the form of 10 old parking meters installed in some of the most heavily panhandled areas, The Chronicle has learned.

Money deposited in the meters would go directly to charities that help the homeless...

Since these aren't even parking meters that actually give you parking time, the reception is likely to be rather muted as is suggested later on in the article. I was particularly impressed with this astute observation by one of the people who had commented on this harebrained scheme:

when a $6 billion a year city government decides to compete with the homeless for your spare change ... ... well, that's just pathetic.

Hillary Wins West Virginia
— DrewM

As expected a blow out for Hillary.

MSNBC, when they aren't openly mocking her for staying in the race, says it might be a 2-1 margin.

Apparently her upcoming speech is being billed as her best ever. I am not sure what that means but there you go.

Speech Update:

Meh, nothing to new or interesting. She's says nice things about the Obamassiah, pushes for Michigan and Florida and claims the nominee needs the original number of delegates to win nomination, not the lower one Obama and everyone else says is needed.

Now she's launching into the 'I can win the swing states that have to be one and Obama can't' appeal to the Supers.

It's a lawyerly argument saying, 'you may love the other guy but he isn't going to get you to the promised land'.

Nothing all that new.

So, what will it take to get Hillary over the top or out of the race?

How great is this? While talking to Sen. Casey of Pennsylvania Chris Matthews dropped this little gem in reference to Clinton's use of the term 'white, working class voters', “It’s almost like she’s the Al Sharpton of white people”

Hillary must be wondering how the hell she suddenly became a Republican.

BREAKING NEWS (MUST CREDIT AoS HQ): Megyn Kelly is NOT (repeat NOT) wearing the hot librarian glasses tonight. I'll still be in my bunk but it might be for a little longer then last week.

Historic Pupit Displaying Defeated Mohammad Trodden Underfoot Provokes Mellow Calm and Easygoing Wait-and-See Attitude
— Ace

Uh, yeah.

And the Belgian government is courageously affixing the blame for the need for police protection for the church precisely where it belongs -- with the "neo-fascist" newspaper that dared to publish the photos.

I can haz deep lumbar massage?

Just doing my own bit to advance the cause of neo-fascism.

(Though I must say, I really don't understand what was wrong with the old version, "Fascism Classic.")

Holy Shit! That PONCHO!

A fake ad that ran in a Boston weekly rag:

The ad drew complaints. Not for the light blasphemy. For the misogyny, natch. It is Boston, after all.

Some Evangelicals View Obama Presidency as the Right Disaster at the Right Time
— Ace

I know many non-evangelicals view Obama that way, too. But this is based on prophecy:

Nevertheless, reports out of the evangelical community dispute Huckabee's support. One experienced, credible activist in Christian politics who would not let his name be used told me Huckabee in personal conversation with him embraced the concept that an Obama presidency might be what the American people deserve. That fits what has largely been a fringe position among evangelicals that the pain of an Obama presidency is in keeping with the Bible's prophecy.

According to this activist, at the heart of the let-Obama-win movement is longtime Virginia conservative leader Michael Farris -- the nation's leading home-school advocate, who is now chancellor of Patrick Henry College (in Purcellville, Va.) for home-schooled students. Best known politically as the losing Republican candidate for lieutenant governor of Virginia in 1993, Farris is regarded as one of the hardest-edged Christian politicians. He is reported in evangelical circles to promote the Biblical justification for an Obama plague-like presidency.

In conversations with me, Huckabee and Farris both denied advocating that an Obama presidency should be inflicted on the country.

You lost me at prophecy.

That's a Novak column, so it can't be dismissed as a left-winger making up kooky stories about the hated Christian right. (It can be dismissed, of course, just not on those grounds.)

Hey, Did You Know There's a Primary Today?
— Gabriel Malor

Some Gazans didn't forget. They're busy getting out the vote for their man Obama.

REPORTER: It may be hard to believe, but working in this tiny Internet cafe in Gaza City may just be one of Barack Obama's biggest fans.

Before every U.S. primary, 23-year-old Ibrahim Abu Jayyab gathers 17 of his friends to try and rally support for Obama's campaign in the U.S.

So why does a young Palestinian living in Gaza spend so much of his time and money on an election thousands of miles away?

ABU JAYYAB: [translated] It all started at the time of the U.S. primaries. After studying Obama's electoral campaign manifesto, I thought, 'this is a man that is capable of change inside America.' As for potential change in the Middle East, he can also do that. I think he can bring peace to the area, or at least this is what we hope.

Transcript from Campaign Spot.

West Virginia polls close in just over three hours. Clinton is expected to win by 30% or so.

Poll: One in Five Democrats Will Defect to McCain
— Ace

I don't expect that number to hold up. Most of us vowed we'd never support McCain but many of us will grudgingly pull the lever for him (maybe).

Still, that's a pretty big number. If 25% of that 20% remains firm about not voting for the Democrat, that's 5% subtracted out of the Democratic column (and maybe added to the Republican column). Easily enough to swing a close election.

Giant Bull Terrorizes England
— Gabriel Malor

It is a UK daily, so I suppose this could be a photoshop:

Chilli the giant bullock stands at 6ft 6ins and weighs well over a ton.

Despite his grand stature, Chilli only grazes on grass during the day and enjoys the occasional swede as a treat.

The heifer, who is almost as high as he is long, lives at the Ferne Animal Sanctuary in Chard, Somerset, after he was left on their doorstep aged just six-days-old.

Nine years on, Chilli has kept on growing, and staff believe the giant will smash a record for Britain's tallest ever cow.

He eats Swedes? AWEsome!
