Quote: "[The BCS is in an] unprecedented state of health" [krakatoa]
— Open Blog

Translation: No College Football playoffs, sucka's.

"We will move forward in the next cycle with the current format," said Swofford, who serves as BCS chairman. "I believe the BCS has never been healthier in its first decade."

Yeah. The BCS is perfect. It's the rest of us that need to change.

Teacher taking time off school to fish [John F Not Kerry]
— Open Blog

Well, not actually to fish, um, exactly. Apparently a very fine-looking teacher decided to skip having sex with her underaged male charges and instead took some school time off to entertain tournament fisherman. Now she has been fired. Courtesy of Ed from Hot Air.

What If They Gave The Hugest Evah Pro-Immigrant Pro-Immigration Reform Rally and Nobody Showed Up?
— Dave in Texas

They'd blame it on fear.

Nothing to cite yet except my Dave in Texas taxicab ears, but an hour ago WBAP AM reported only a hundred or so showed up to protest in Dallas this afternoon.

But reports from Chicago say 150,000 demonstrators today, down from 400,000 a year ago. LA? 25,000 in the first rally (it's early yet), but "several hundred thousand" last year.

And New York? An undisclosed number of supporters added their names to the painting of a tree.

They told us immigration reform protestors would cower in fear in the last year of a Bush administration, and they were right!

West Coast Updates [from Gab]: 20,000 people expected in LA, 8500 counted. They counted a half million two years ago (whoever "they" are).

And the updated number from Chicago? Not quite 150,000. Less than 5,000.

Clearly the chill wind of dissent is blowing, and getting some results!

Hah, Hah: "Women's Vote" Group Anonymously Placing Calls To Suppress Black Turnout in North Carolina
UPDATE: Firm Started By Clinton Allies

— Ace

The "hah, hah" because these are apparently Hillary supporters behind the misleading calls (which suggest that already-registered voters have to go through additional paperwork to vote), and of course because the MSM, generally interested in this sort of story, will largely ignore it.

Oh wait. Hillary is "the Republican" at this point. Perhaps it will get some light coverage. If nothing else it will give Keith Olbermann a pretext to snarl and preen.

Thanks to Eric.

Update: The group was started by high-profile ex-Clinton officials and allies.

Almost seems like a reverse dirty trick. Chance of it working: Low. Chance of it being traced to Hillary "supporters" and thus having the opposite of the "intended" effect: High.

I'm sure Hillary is innocent, and this is a black-bag ops by Obama's people.*

* I don't believe this for a second, but I'm spinning as hard as I can for My Girl.

Gallup National 49% Hillary, 45% Obama: Nice. Let the Chaos continue.

So, How Was Your Day?
— DrewM

There were some, uh issues today. I am sure Mr. Spades will be here shortly with some quality make-up blogging.

In the meantime, talk amongst yourselves.

UPDATE: Ace says The Open Blog Lamp Is On! You've seen lots of stories you've been dying to talk about, get it out of your system.

UPDATE 2: Apparently this story broke while the blog was down...A Japanese model was found not guilty of breaking and entering because her breasts were too big to get through the door!

The Secret History of Secrecy: TEMPEST
— Ace

Very cool article on the accidental discovery that our (at the time) state-of-the-art electronic cipher machines had a rather bad design flaw -- "compromising emanations," transmitting electromagnetically and accoustically the encrypted message... before it was actually encrypted.

Neat spy vs. spy stuff here.

Thanks to krakatoa.

Nice Shootin', Buzz!

Pic brazenly stolen from The Hostages

Tipster extraordinaire eddiebear
points us to a delightful video of an author giving vent to his deepest fears about the internet and blogging. It's a must-see, but if you're like me you will only be able to stomach viewing it in small doses.

In it, Buzz Bissinger corks off at blogger Will from Deadspin, who demonstrates wonderful self-restraint in the face of a pretty ugly ambush.

We suppose we could have punched him in the nose or something, called him an asshole, said he was a piece of shit. It might have made for more riveting television; we are certain Costas wouldn't have minded. But that would have been counterproductive. When you see someone flailing desperately at someone, something, anything, there's nothing more to do than sit there, bemused and bewildered, amazed at what was happening, just like everyone else was.

Which is the sin of greater magnitude; being a mannered, amiable fellow who plays Internet Badass, or actually being a belligerent prick in real life?

UPDATE: via Spongeworthy, the fine gentlemen at Kissing Suzy Kolber allow Mr. Bissinger a forum in which to apologize.

I think they're being really good sports about the whole thing. Hear, hear.
