Quote of the Day
— Ace

From Carl Gordon.

Never one with that rare ability to gamble the rest of my life on one step or anything spewing from a conservatives maw, I must say that every time McCain opens his mouth admiration walks out the door, held open by vain stupidity.

I would sincerely like him to embrace notions of Deep Play, leavened with the instant rice of social convention, yet find my self stranded, gape-mouthed, eyes akimbo, staring goose-like at that big rock candy mountain vanilla dollop of existential grab-assing he engages in with business partners/nankers cut from a cloth both tattered and mollusk scented.

Some where out there run the gazelles of his idealistic youth, stomachs swollen as they are with the earnest anticipation of even fouler digestive volition, as he admits to himself, as if anybody ever cared, of his complicity, yeah, his cowardice in the face of candy-assed home field GOP advantage.

All this because he dreams of eating sandwiches on the train, sax bellowing in intense, ad-hoc, race horse piss-off meanderings, intergalactic sausages wrapped around the vertical column of the same, as he defies the extra gravity of the situation, desperate to recycle, along with the fish, chickens, and vegetables he grew up with, admixtures and there waste products. Eyes akimbo, huh?

First I thought Carl was merely stupid, a low-functioning retard whose days in the group home are filled with nothing but tapioca and hatred.

But now, re-reading that... Um, he's fucking insane. Insane and retarded, mind you, not "cool insane" like the Joker.

Either that, or this is a really good joke, a punking, by Spurwing Plover, perhaps.

Man Beheaded on Greyhound Bus By Seatmate
— Ace

Buses! Mobile crackhouses on wheels! Except crackhouses smell less strongly of urine and desperation.

(Actually, I don't mind buses, but this really doesn't help their bad reputation.)

A man sleeping on a Greyhound bus as it rolled across the Canadian Prairies was killed and decapitated by his seatmate on Wednesday night, other passengers who were on the bus told media on Thursday.

"All of a sudden, we all heard this scream, this bloodcurdling scream," said Garnet Caton, who was sitting just in front of the victim, in an interview with CBC Television.

"The attacker was standing up right over top of the guy with a large hunting knife -- a survival, Rambo knife -- holding the guy and continually stabbing him, stabbing him, stabbing him in the chest area," Caton said.

The attack continued as other passengers fled the bus and waited for police on a desolated stretch of the TransCanada Highway near Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, said Caton, who helped bar the bus door to prevent the attacker from leaving.

"He calmly walks up to the front (of the bus) with the head in his hand and the knife and just calmly stares at us and drops the head right in front of us," Caton said.

"There was no rage in him ... It was just like he was a robot or something."

Actually he was programmed to kill by Republican subliminal advertising.

Leave Barack Obama Alone!
— Ace

I was wondering when someone would do this.

Thanks to DavidD.

Oh, Mercy: A HuffPo blogger tries out a new attack on McCain's ad: The Britney/Paris ad
is actually a not-quite-subliminal call to the right to assassinate Barack Obama

See, the popping and flashing of flashcubes suggests gunfire.

And also cameras, of course.

But also gunfire. Assuming the guns are built to perfectly resemble cameras, and take pictures rather than fire projectiles.

It's not yet explained by this Mensa Chapter President why the "gunfire" of the cameras does not result in headwounds for Britney and Paris.

True, True: Mememachine:

BAH!

As if bigoted racists like us needed a reason to assassinate anybody "of color".

This morning a bunch of people were extremely fortunate that the local deli had orange juice. Otherwise? Massacre man. M-ass-a-cre.

People gots to know how thin that lifeline is.

How Dumb Does Obama Think You Are? Very, Very Dumb
— DrewM

After saying McCain is trying to scare voters by telling people, Obama "doesn’t look like the other presidents on the currency, he’s a got a funny name.” an Obama spokesman claims they weren't playing the race card.

...He was referring to the fact that he didnÂ’t come into the race with the history of others. It is not about race.

Uh huh, sure. Say, how much are you selling that bridge in Brooklyn for anyway?

The McCain camp isn't letting His Messiahness off the hook.

Barack Obama has played the race card, and he played it from the bottom of the deck. ItÂ’s divisive, negative, shameful and wrong.

McCain needs to fight back on this crap hard. Not only is it just wrong to label people racist for airing legitimate political differences but if McCain let's Obama control the terms of the debate he'd be toast.

McCain Mushy On Taxes
— DrewM

This 'straight talk' I've heard so much about sure seems to have a lot of zigs and zags in it.

After saying he opposes a tax raise and that "I will not raise your taxes nor support a tax increase. I will not do it", McCain followed that up with less than Shermanesque statements.

But just hours later, he appeared to open another crack in his no-new-taxes pledge.

“In any negotiation that I might have, when I go in, my position will be that I am opposed to raising taxes. But we have to work together to save Social Security,” McCain said at a fundraiser Wednesday evening in Kansas City.

Pressed repeatedly in an interview with local reporters Wednesday, McCain said several times that he couldnÂ’t rule anything out when it comes to Social Security.

“I’ve been involved in Washington in many negotiations on issues, whether it be immigration or campaign-finance reform or issues before the Commerce Committee. You go in with a position and you negotiate,” McCain said. “My position is that I’m against increased taxes, and my record shows that I have opposed tax increases and been in favor of tax cuts.”

McCain added: “My position going in in negotiations is I’m against tax increases, and I have not been supportive of tax increases, and we will negotiate and you have to negotiate in good faith.”

It's depressing we are still wondering exactly where McCain is on taxes. He can say all he wants about his new found support for the "Bush Tax Cuts" but he reality is they are going to disappear in 2010 unless an extension is passed and signed. Obviously a President can't pass his cuts, it will require bullying what may well be (is likely to be?) a still Democratic Congress to do it.

Instead of hearing from him how he is going to accomplish the goal of keeping the tax cuts, we are wondering if he will fight for them or bargain them away as part of his need to "negotiate in good faith".

His less than solid answers on Social Security taxes aren't exactly inspiring confidence in me on the whole issue.

Ah, the joys of nominating a long time legislator to be President.

In the comments runninrebel thinks it's unfair that I am conflating Social Security taxes and income taxes. I thought it was clear in the original post that I realized they were different things. In case it wasn't, my problem with McCain is given his mushiness on Social Security taxes, why exactly should I take his word on income taxes? Don't forget McCain opposed the tax cuts in 2001, so it's not like he has a history of consistency on taxes to begin with.

To me taxes aren't as much a matter of what you say, it's a matter of philosophy. I don't remember George W. Bush ever saying he'd never raise taxes but it was clear it wasn't part of his make up (if only he felt the same way about lowering spending).

Given McCain's opposition to the most recent tax cuts and his vacillation on Social Security taxes, I don't have that comfort with him.

Bush: Iraq Tours Cut Back To 12 Months, More Troops Likely To Be Brought Home
— DrewM

Very good news from the President today on the state of affairs in Iraq and what it will mean for US troops.

U.S. President George W. Bush on Thursday held out the prospect of further troop withdrawals from Iraq as he hailed security gains there and cut the length of combat tours for U.S. forces in the country.

Bush, in an appearance at the White House, said violence in Iraq had fallen to its lowest point since the spring of 2004 and that progress on the ground was showing a "degree of durability."

"We are now in our third consecutive month with reduced violence levels holding steady," Bush said.

From the what if the US wins and war and no one notices department, of the three broadcast networks only CBS covered the Presidents announcement. Apparently gardening and beauty tips or whatever the hell the talk about on GMA and the Today Show were more important.

The Thing Remade, Starring G.I. Joe Action Figures
— Ace

When I say "remade," I mean remade with a new but similar script, not recreated. The "plot" of this short follows the very basics of The Thing's plot, but only in broadest outline. Don't expect shot-for-shot fidelity, or, like me, you'll start wondering where the hell the Swedes are, and when the dog is going to start acting funny.

And why MacReady is suddenly a redhead.

Starts off a mite slow, and the music just gets more and more annoying (you might want to turn it down after a minute), but it is a lot of fun to look at. Great sets. And the monster actually looks kinda scary, too. more...

Bradley Effect: Barack Obama Just Can't Get Past the Fact that the Democratic Candidate is Black
— Ace

This cocksucker is the only one mentioning it.

Why does John McCain have to answer for this cocksucker racist's hatred?

Seriously, this low-watt parvenu has been running on the color of his skin for two years. The only one playing the race card here is Barack Obama.

Oh, and Mike Barnicle, spotting some subliminal xenophobia too.

It is true that, unfortunately, a lot of people in this country will vote strictly along racial lines. But we shouldn't extrapolate from a small group of black journalists, now should we?

More of Obama's Energy Plan
— Ace

Back to the future, it seems. Okay, these are 70's era energy PSAs, but pretty much they're Obama's plan.

More here, and here, and even here.

I hate to burst the Chosen One's bubble, but the energy crunch did not end due to conservation. It ended because of increased production.

Thanks to Warden.
