Big Thread Dishing on Soap Stars
— Ace

I don't know much about this except what I'm told.

The post is about the firing of a woman at Soap Opera Weekly. Apparently, this woman is a... no, I don't want to say that, so I'll use a euphemism: She's a cunt.

A really, really horrible cunt.

So, hundreds of people who worked with her through the years (some driven out of their jobs by her) come out of the wordwork to comment about what a foul, rancid cunt this woman is.

And then, after a while, people just begin dishing shit about celebrites -- well, soap stars, mostly -- like who's gay, who gave who herpes, etc.

I'm linking this because I'm told this is a really big thing at the moment, and so much nasty gossip is being dropped about soap (and other) stars that "the networks are going to feel this."

Gotta link a blog post that might hurt people's careers, right?

2004 comments so far (yes, two thousand and four) and still going strong and libelous.

If you're a chick, I'm told, this thread is awesome.

Stay Classy, Truthers and Lefties: Alex Jones and Lefty Thugs Attack Michelle Malkin
— Ace

I don't know what "attack" means. I'm hoping it was just jostling and threats.

I assume Michelle's okay. She has a serious bodyguard, and probably today she has two.

Vid:

More vid coming, Gateway Pundit says. Note that the video above seems to come from Alex Jones' Truther mutants. So anything plainly criminal probably won't show that.

Having just now gotten through that tape, I didn't see an attack per se, but I did see stalking and what can be charged in many jurisidictions as "criminal menacing."

We'll see what shows up on the PJM tape.

Stay Classy, Kos Diarists: McCain Has Alzheimer's; Will Resign to Deliver Country to Joe Lieberman, and His Zionist Masters in Israel
— Ace

Yup, that's the plan, Stan.

Such heart-warming news! High level Republican associates here are talking about the latest ploy on the part of the State of Israel to gain complete control of the United States government. Their idea is to offer the diseased McCain unlimited support from their papers and television stations in return for his putting Joe Lieberman on the ticket as vice president. As McCain is known to be seriously ill and will soon be unable to function, the plan will be for him to retire "for reasons of health" and then Joe Lieberman, loud and persistent Israeli supporter, will step into the Oval Office and America will have her first (unelected) Jewish president.

Huckabee: Romney Could Have Just Ignored SJC Ruling
— Ace

This is wrong. And I've heard this a lot from people I respect online.

It's wrong. It's bullshit.

If the executive doesn't follow the diktats of a court, the court dashes off writs of mandamus compelling lesser officials (like, justices of the peace, clerks at city halls) to act according to what they claim the law is. I believe these writs are issued upon pain of contempt.

This entire idea -- which I've seen bubbling up a lot, but only with regard to this one issue -- proves too much, as they say. If Romney could have just ignored the SJC's ruling, what stops any executive from doing this when it comes to any disagreement with the court?

There is no difference. Yes, hypothetically, any executive can provoke a constitutional crisis like this, with the courts ordering their bailiffs to arrest officials for contempt for not complying with writs of mandamus, and the executive ordering cops to arrest bailiffs trying to execute these arrests, and etc. Yes, it could be done.

But why the fuck have people only thought of this with regard to Romney and this one decision? Why do they insist in this -- and only this -- situation Romney could have, and should have, faced down the (armed) agents of the court with his own armed agents?

Note that Huckabee's excuse for soliciting additional taxes -- any additional tax schemes; they were all "all right by me," as he said -- was that he was compelled by a state court decision to do so. (Actually, he wasn't quite, but let's pretend he was.)

How come you didn't just defy the courts yourself, Huck?

Why is it that Mitt Romney and only Mitt Romney has this special executive power to defy the courts?

They Told Me That if George W. Bush Were Elected, the DoJ Would "Investigate" Groups Running Political Ads That High Party Officials Don't Like -- And They Were Right!
— Ace

Obama asks the DoJ to investigate intimidate the group running the entirely-truthful Obama/Ayers ad.

Obama’s campaign has written the Department of Justice demanding a criminal investigation of the “American Issues Project,” the vehicle through which Dallas investor Harold Simmons is financing the advertisements. The Obama campaign — and tens of thousands of supporters — also is pressuring television networks and affiliates to reject the ads.

Criminal charges, eh? Based on what?

Liberal fascism indeed.

Matt Stoller: John McCain is a "a crazy cancer-ridden dishonest madman."

Why the long face which strongly resembles that of a doltish jackass?

I'm just going to call Matt Stoller "Sugarfoot" from now on.

Biden's Plagiarism Wasn't Just Plagiarism -- He Was Makin' Up Fake Shit That Someone Else Made Up
— Ace

Instapundit keeps saying Joe Biden got a bum rap on the plagiarism deal. I tend to trust him, so I figured, yeah, he got a bum deal.

Not so. It's not just about the plagiarism of Neil Kinnock's speech -- it's also about Biden's claiming that Kinnock's personal biographical details were his own. And it's about his general pattern of lying and, yes, plagiarizing, a habit that got him an "F" in law school. (The same law school were he'd later have to fib about his class standing, as it turns out.)

Biden's misdeeds encompassed numerous self-aggrandizing thefts, misstatements, and exaggerations that seemed to point to a serious character defect....

At first Biden would credit Kinnock when he quoted him. But at some point he failed to offer the attribution. Biden maintained that he lapsed only once—at a debate at the Iowa State Fair, on Aug. 23, when cameras recorded it—but Maureen Dowd of the New York Times reported two incidents of nonattribution, and no one kept track exactly of every time Biden used the Kinnock bit.

This is where I think Instapundit gets the bum rap idea from. But wait, there's a lot more to it.

What is certain is that Biden didn't simply borrow the sort of boilerplate that counts as common currency in political discourse—phrases like "fighting for working families." What he borrowed was Kinnock's life.

Biden lifted Kinnock's precise turns of phrase and his sequences of ideas—a degree of plagiarism that would qualify any student for failure, if not expulsion from school. But the even greater sin was to borrow biographical facts from Kinnock that, although true about Kinnock, didn't apply to Biden. Unlike Kinnock, Biden wasn't the first person in his family history to attend college, as he asserted; nor were his ancestors coal miners, as he claimed when he used Kinnock's words. Once exposed, Biden's campaign team managed to come up with a great-grandfather who had been a mining engineer, but he hardly fit the candidate's description of one who "would come up [from the mines] after 12 hours and play football." At any rate, Biden had delivered his offending remarks with an introduction that clearly implied he had come up with them himself and that they pertained to his own life.

Additional bits of plagiarism were then discovered. Click the link for all the details.

If that wasn't bad enough, Biden admitted the next day that while in law school he had received an F for a course because he had plagiarized five pages from a published article in a term paper that he submitted....

Next tackled is Biden's claim of being a civil-rights crusader, and his lie-filled "My IQ is higher than yours" defense.

Let's cut to the end:

...

The sheer number and extent of Biden's fibs, distortions, and plagiarisms struck many observers at the time as worrisome, to say the least....

Twenty-one years on, how much should Biden's past behavior matter?

Well, given the fact that he just invented a trio of Action-Packed Tales of Courage Under Fire in the Green Zone a few months ago, I'd say Biden's days of convenient lies and resume-padding aren't quite over yet.

Barack Amer-- In their joint campaign appearance, Biden referred to Obama as either " Barack Emir" or " Barack Amer--" Some people, including me, thought maybe he attempted to say "Barack America," but stopped himself.

I think I have the explanation.

First, note that what he said wasn't "Barack America." For one thing, he stopped himself after the second syllable. For another, the accent and vowel-pronunciation was wrong. He said something closer to "Emir."

So, what did he almost call Obama? The Poet Laureate of New Jersey is in the news periodically, most recently for writing a "poem" asking "Who told all the Jews to stay home that day?" (On 9/11.) He also wittily asked "What kind of Skeeza is Condoleeza?"

The poet's name, of course, is Ameri Baracka.

Biden got the "Barack" confused with "Baracka" and almost called him "Barack Ameri."

Is that racist?

I'm waiting for Joshey Marshall to get back to me on that.

Stupid Democratic Convention Thread
— Ace

We may do a live blog on this, too... not sure I can take four friggin' days of this nonsense.

Obama Responds to McCain Ayers Hit: I was only eight years old... when I chose to befriend and ally myself with an unrepentant terrorist.

Obama's Ad: How come McCain is talking about buildings being blown up when we should be talking about houses being foreclosed on? Distraction.

I mean, come on, what are the odds that Bill Ayers is going to put a bomb in your house or workplace? No greater than one in five -- at most.

From Hot Air, with more.

And More Unrelated Stuff: Older women with ambiguously short hair cuts say they're Hillary gals, and the way to vote for Hillary in 2012 is to vote for McCain in 2008.

Panic at the Disco: Hillary and Obama are negotiating a deal to cut short the roll call vote, to avoid embarrassing Obama. After letting a few states vote -- including a couple for Hillary -- New York would get to vote (for Hills), then Hillary will unexpectedly, spontaneously rise to call for an end to the roll call and the unanimous approval of Obama.

Hmm... will Hills do this? I wouldn't.

Maybe if Barack Obama just happens to coincidentally finally make his luxurious list of donors available to her, so she can solicit pay-downs of her campaign debt.

"Lethal" Klingon Blade Seized in British Knife Amnesty
— Ace

"Fascinating."

The Daily Mail has a conniption trying to describe this unwieldy pretend-sword as dangerous.

This horrifying five-foot weapon has been recovered by police during a knife amnesty.

The three-handled sword with a blade at either end, designed to be swung like a paddle, shocked officers who took custody of it.

...

A spokesman for police in Gloucester, where it was surrendered, said: "It is a particularly nasty weapon that can, literally, take someone's head off. We are very glad it is off the streets and we want more weapons handed in."

The blade is believed to be a stainless-steel copy of a Klingon weapon used in the science fiction series Star Trek. "It's an extremely dangerous weapon," said a martial arts expert last night.

Um... the ergonomics and mechanics of it seem a bit dodgy to me. Perhaps that's why no real-world weapon has ever looked like that.

For those of you keeping score, the deadly three-handled sword which does not permit you to either swing nor stab is called a bat'leth, or "Sword of Honor."

Thanks to Digital Brownshirt.

Frank Lutz Focus Group of Undecideds: Obama Must Change Message or Lose Swing Voter
— Ace

Interesting.

Oddly, though, of the 21 undecideds quizzed, 12 had voted for Bush in 2004. Prudence would have suggested a 50/50 split.

[A]nother disturbing element for Mr Obama was how sceptical and even dismissive most of the group was about the word that has been central to his campaign - change. Some voters believed Mr Obama could not relate to them and did not share their everyday concerns.

"Stop giving me all these general things," said Doug, 48, a fireman. "I want specifics, not pie in the sky. There were nods around the room. "He has to put some substance behind the charismatic talk," interjected another man.

A woman in her 60s said: "I want less oratory; show me what you have done and what you are going to do." Sondra, 43, a catering manager, said: "Change for change's sake got us in this mess. We want change but we're afraid of what it might bring."

Asked to address Mr Obama directly, the voters said: "How are you going to get it done?"; "Prove you have experience."; "How will you fix things?"; "Stop the dramatic talk, we want reality."; "Focus on issues, not personality."; "Don't just give me an empty balloon."

Most of the undecided voters said they wanted "accountability" rather than change. From a long list of election concerns, 17 highlighted a top theme of Mr McCain's: "Ending wasteful Washington spending and balancing the federal budget."

The next most important concern was "reducing inflation and keeping costs down", with ten votes while "Ending American dependence on foreign oil" and "bringing accountability and honesty back to the government" got nine.

Some favourite concerns of Democrats were virtually ignored. "Holding President Bush accountable for all his mistakes and failures" got two votes and "Improving our global image and public support internationally" just one - another indication that Mr Obama's recent foreign trip and speech in Berlin were mistakes.

Using electronic dials to register their second-by-second reactions, the voters were shown television advertisements from each candidate. Again, the results were encouraging for Mr McCain.

Although most of the 21 said they did not like the concept behind Mr McCain's notorious "Celebrity" ad, which compared the Democrat with Paris Hilton and Britney Spears - one said "crap", another "ridiculous" - a dozen conceded it made Mr Obama look bad.

The Obama ad that attacked Mr McCain for having seven houses and not being able to recall the number fell flat. But Mr McCain's response ad that highlighted a land deal Mr Obama had struck with Tony Rezko, a real estate dealer subsequently convicted of corruption, prompted more than half the dials to shoot up.

A couple of the voters suggested that Americans did not resent wealth. "I really don't care how many houses you have but it does matter how you got that house," said Doug.

Byron York also digests the focus groups' findings.
