Is Gaza contributing to Obama?
— Purple Avenger

Not quite enough here at Atlas Shrugs to nail it at 100% certainty, but it does seem clear that someone, somewhere has violated the campaign finance law by going way over the donation limit. Pamela is saying now that a FEC complaint will be filed over this.

Not a head shot by any means even if true, since the media will certainly embargo the story if it is, and McPain probably doesn't have the stones to flog it either. The FEC bureaucrats could "distract" the campaign with it though and force them to send some modest jack back to some vacant lot address in Gaza.

Obama On Offshore Drilling: Uh, Um, Ah, Sure
— DrewM

He's redeploying to the side of the issue that about 70% of Americans are on.

"'If, in order to get that passed, we have to compromise in terms of a careful, well thought-out drilling strategy that was carefully circumscribed to avoid significant environmental damage - I don't want to be so rigid that we can't get something done,' Obama said."

More: "[H]e told the Post he would be open to expanding the current drilling boundaries if it meant winning approval for more fuel-efficient cars, developing alternative energy sources and making the country more 'energy independent.'"

"'I think it's important for the American people to understand we're not going to drill our way out of this problem,' he said. 'It's also important to recognize if you start drilling now you won't see a drop of oil for ten years, which means its not going to have a significant impact on short-term prices. Every expert agrees on that.'"

In other words, "if they want to drill, I'll drill the damn holes".

Of course with any precipitous redeployment some will unfortunately be left behind to deal with the chaos and suffer the consequences.

Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid can not be happy campers tonight.

As True Now As It Was Then: 1943 Guide to Handling Female Employees Filled With Sexism and Wisdom, But Mostly Wisdom
— Ace

The authors disagree about the mid-eighties corporate-hiring mantra "No Fat Chicks," it should be noted.

1. Pick young married women. They usually have more of a sense of responsibility than their unmarried sisters: theyÂ’re less likely to be flirtatious, they need the work or they wouldnÂ’t be doing it, and they still have the interest to work hard and to deal with the public efficiently.

2. When you use older women, try to get ones who have worked outside the home at some time in their lives. Older women who have never been in contact with the public have a hard time adapting themselves and are inclined to be cantankerous and fussy. ItÂ’s always well to impress upon older women the importance of friendliness and courtesy.

3. General experience indicates that “husky” girls — those who are just a little on the heavy side — are more even-tempered and efficient than their underweight sisters.

4. Retain a doctor to give each woman you hire a special physical examination. This step not only protects the property against the possibility of a lawsuit, but reveals whether the employee-to-be has any female weaknesses that would make her mentally or physically unfit for the job.

...

6. Give the female employee a definite day-long schedule of duties so that she will keep busy without bothering the management for instructions every few minutes. Numerous properties say that women make excellent workers when they have their jobs cut out for them, but that they lack initiative in finding work for themselves.

...

8. Give every girl an adequate number of rest periods during the day. You have to make some allowance for feminine psychology. A girl has more confidence and is more efficient if she can keep her hair tidied, apply fresh lipstick and wash her hands several times a day.

9. Make sure you divide the burdens of your Executive Rape Privileges' among women of varying ethnicities and social classes; not only does this insure that this aspect of female labor is fairly divided among all the staff, but your various victims of forcible sodomy will appreciate your devotion to the ideals of tolerance and inclusiveness, even if the idea of sex with a greasy she-Wop or fish-breath Dagoess turns your stomach, as of course it does.

I may have added that last one.

Thanks to Op-For.

And Hey: No fair Italians or Catholics complaining about number 9. The document is from 1943; I had to go Old School with my racism and religious bigotry.

And besides, there just aren't enough Anti-Papistry slurs these days.

Obama: Why Would I Make a Complaint About Racism to White People, Given that White People Obviously Are Antipathetic to the Plight of Poor Downtrodden Blacks Like Myself?
— Ace

The latest claim: He couldn't have been making a racial grievance, because he wouldn't have done so in front of a crowd that was 98% white.

White liberal, by the way. White liberals tend to be pretty receptive to such racial grievances, by and large. Hell, white liberals are pretty willing to give Al Qaeda's cultural grievances a fair hearing, too.

But let's ignore the stupidity of that: Obama is saying he would only make such a claim in front of black audiences. Why? Apparently because white people bitterly cling to racism themselves, and thus would hardly be swayed by such a complaint.

This is not the Great National Debate on Race Obama thought he knew.

Allah has more at the link, including the fact that when he used the less-ambiguous formulation of his go-to smear -- "Oh, and did I mention he's black?" -- he was also speaking in front of a lot of white liberals, who ate it up.

Does anyone in the media sort of begin to notice that when Obama is caught out in bad behavior, we get a bewildering blizzard of contradictory statements from his camp, none of which are quite honest, each of which is being tried out on the media to see which flies? We saw the same thing when he blew off the wounded troops, of course; after a series of different gambits with varying amounts of deception and truth in them, Jake Tapper was happy to proclaim that finally we had gotten a statement "seemingly close to the truth," which closed the issue completely for him.

I'm sorry, but that didn't close the issue for me then, and the Obama camp's contradictory attempts at spin -- including David Axelrod's modified limited hang-out admission that yes, his reference to "presidents on dollar bills" was at least partly about race -- doesn't satisfy me now.

His chief strategist says the remark did implicate race, and by design; Obama now swears it absolutely didn't.

I suppose we have to wait for the MSM to decide which version they like better, and which will sell better with the public, and only then will we find out the answer to the question.

Moronapalooza Update
— Ace

Details at the old (real) site.

But to comment on this, complain, etc., please comment in the original thread for this, on this site. Someone wants all the comments right in one place so that he doesn't go crazy trying to reconcile three threads.

By the way, I know the links aren't publishing as links for some reason... but i don't know the reason. Just go to the old (real) site, find someone's post, and then click back through to the comments (on this site) to comment.

I realize this is goofy as hell, but I can't make the older post here bump to the top.

Gallup: All Knotted Up at 44%
— Ace

I don't think actual poll numbers mean anything, especially in this particular race.

But they do indicate trends, certainly.

And the trend for The Golden Child? Not good.

Maybe people are beginning to figure out that Obama has said exactly one true statement since becoming a Senator:

"I don't think I have a place in history yet. I got elected to the U.S. Senate. I haven't done anything yet."

That was in late 2005. And what has he done since? Well, a combination of nothing, and opposing the wildly successful surge, and voting to cut off funding for our troops, and lamenting that oil prices were fine at $130 per barrel, he just wished they hadn't risen quite so quickly, and also a lot of nothing.

Empty suit? Nah, empty suits are actually useful. You can wear them, for one thing.

Can't Say He Didn't Warn You: Pro-Rape Professor Arrested for Rape
— Ace

Weird. I'll just tease it and let you go to the link for the rest.

To remind you, a Hebrew University graduate student claimed in her thesis that the absence of any history of rapes of Arab women by Israeli soldiers proves that Jews are racists and oppressors, people who do not even regard Arab women as worthy of being sexually abused. The student at the Mount Scopus campus and her "research" were then awarded a university honor for these impressive "discoveries" by the Shaine Center, a Hebrew University sociology "research" center dominated by far leftists. Nitzan had argued that abstaining from rape is just as inhumane and oppressive as "symptomatically raping" and in fact replaces it, because it just serves to reinforce the intolerance felt toward Arabs by Jewish soldiers. These racist soldiers think of Arabs as so inferior and horrid that they do not even feel a compulsion to rape them. While giving some shallow lip service to how the "question" of rape refusal is "very complex," Nitzan's own "answer" is quite simple and straightforward - it reflects Jewish racism against Arabs.

Israel, she claimed, is so racist and anti-Arab that abstaining from rape is part and parcel of its determination to enforce rigid "lines of division." She asserted that individual soldiers who refuse to rape represent an intentional policy of oppression roughly similar to when governments order mass rape, because in both cases the "policy" serves to subordinate and dehumanize the oppressed victim population. The thesis drew its "scientific" conclusions from interviews with 25 reserve soldiers, ages 23-32, who served as combat troops in the "occupied territories" during the intifada. None of the comments by any of these soldiers supports or provides any confirmation, even the most indirect, to any of the lunatic "conclusions" reached by Nitzan.

...

The "Non-Rape as Racism" thesis was co-supervised by one Eyal Ben-Ari, a Hebrew University professor of sociology, who claims to know something about the sociology of the military. Ben-Ari is a far leftist with a track record of turning out anti-Israel propaganda, such as claims that Israel is an ultra-militarist society, and much of his propaganda is misrepresented as scholarly research.

...

The Jerusalem weekly Yediot Yerushalayim broke the story and claimed Ben-Ari routinely attacked his female students sexually and violently. It cited two students who claimed they had been violently raped by Ben-Ari. He is also accused of using university funds to take his female students on trips for sexual trysts. He purchased for one of them a vibrator and then submitted the bill for reimbursement to the Hebrew University's Shaine Center (the very same Center that granted an award to the "Non-Rape is Racism" thesis!).

More here, too: Apparently the Israeli MSM isn't noting this professor's strange connection with the "Not Raping Someone = Racism" thesis.

Baffling. There's a reason rape is systematically employed by some (cough, cough) cultures as an instrument of war, and "bonus" for its soldiers, and why it's not so used by others.

It just shows how sick and twisted leftists are that they would actually attempt to denigrate the non-raping culture and elevate the raping culture, all in a malevolent effort to excuse vicious behavior.

Because, you know, we can't have one culture walking around thinking it's better than another because it has the morality and troop-discipline not to employ rape as a battlefield technique.

That would be racist. And "Orientalist."

"The One"
— Ace

The ad is racist because it insinuates that the Messiah cannot be black.

Besides knocking the Lamb of Chicago for his presumptuousness (racist attack) and arrogance (racist attack) and narcissism (racist attack), it also might usefully piss off some religious voters, because, in all seriousness, Obama's semi-serious belief that he is sent by a Higher Power to grant us Salvation does have a bit of blasphemous edge to it. (Racist attack.)

How serious is that last bit? I have no idea. I don't know how seriously to take Obama's messianic posturing. I don't know how seriously he takes it. And I don't know how seriously annoyed a religious person might be by it.

It is there, though. I don't believe Obama thinks he's Christ, and I don't think anyone believes Obama believes he's Christ, either. But his basic message of holy transcendence through his power and his glory does seem to be one that competes, however vaguely, with actual religion.

Surely his cultists are not so enthused by his energy policy. No, they are dreaming of something bigger, something metaphysical. Perhaps not re-born into bodies incorruptible, but at the very least they expect some degree of expiation for their (and of course their nation's) sins.

His narrative is about redemption, first and foremost. And I do believe that spiritual space is filled, for many, by more established figures and better-tested metaphysics.

Thanks to Liberrocky and KP.

Heart-Ache on O-Force One: Barry's all sad that we can't talk about the real issues (see later update).

Motherfucker (racist attack), this is the one "issue" you've really been running on for two years.

Politics Is Show Business For Ugly People, Though There Are A Few Notable Exceptions.
— DrewM

The Hill is out with it's top 50 Most Beautiful People On Capital Hill list. Personally, I am partial to Number 10, Ms. Kristina Spiegel.

photo10.jpg

I think there were some guys on the list for you ladies, I just scrolled past those. I'm sure our own Jack M. is on there somewhere, see if you can spot him.

Hat Tip to Capt. Lex who, like most of us, appreciates the charms of Mrs. Congressman Kucinich. Seriously, what can kind of deal did he make with the Devil and how can I cut one like it?
