The Doom Ticket
— Ace

Just throwing this up. Lee suggested that the gay gossip site and antisemitic conspiracy newsletter The Atlantic had photographed McCain to look just like Lex Luthor, so Aaron photoshopped in some associates from the Legion of Doom (Black Manta and Solomon Grundy). I added the text and slogan.

Update: The old version looked crappy. This one's better. more...

Did Sarah Palin Single Handedly Save the Second Amendment? (Kat-Mo)
— Open Blog

I've made this point several times in other locations: women rule.

Actually, women make up over 51% of the population and were the largest demographic to vote in the 2004 elections. What the Bush campaign referred to as the "security moms" who swung the vote in favor of Bush even when it seemed Kerry had the lead.

Everywhere you look on the news and the net, people are paying attention to this important demographic in the polls.

In the past, the Democrats and other anti-gun organizations have used the natural fear that mothers have for their children to gain support for ever increasing restrictions on weapons. They have repeatedly used the accidental death of children (14 and younger) from fire arms as a bludgeon to create fear when these actual events are less than 2% of all gun related deaths, though 10% of all accidental deaths.

Along with these factors are the statistics that indicate that only 9% of the female population own a weapon. A greater percentage may know a male family member or friend who owns a weapon, but they are unlikely to be involved in any of the cultural or sporting events with those gun owners.

In short, the fear factor works because of the psychology of the fear of the unknown.

Sarah Palin may have single handedly changed the course of the second amendment's history... more...

The Real War Will Be In Washington After the Election (Kat-Mo)
— Open Blog

Not to put a damper on all the fun, but the real war is yet to come. If McCain/Palin win this election, they will have won it on a reform platform. The power to do that will be in the power of the electorate. If McCain blows Obama out of the water, he will have the public behind him and a bully pulpit. Palin will also have a bully pulpit.

But, the real power to sink or float this reform is in congress.

McCain has essentially declared war on congress in the clearest terms possible. In his acceptance speech and his stump speeches he has repeatedly said that he will end earmarks and, to quote, he "will make them famous."

The concern for the McCain presidency and a potential Palin presidency in 2012 must be whether McCain's "no earmarks" will become a George H. W. Bush "read my lips" moment.

Bush Promises Quick Response in Ike's Wake
— Ace

Lesson learned. It helps he isn't working with incompetent layabout governors and mayors, too.

A big news and blog round-up on the hurricane at Instapundit.

I'm sorry I haven't said much about this. I just never post anything about hurricanes or storms generally. (Except for Katrina, of course.) No disrespect intended for Gulf State readers. My hopes are with you.

Lib Photographer Gleefully Springs at Chance to Make McCain Appear "Sinister" for Atlantic Cover; Proudly Admits Her Bias
— Ace

The picture that gay gossip site and antisemitic conspiracy newsletter The Atlantic chose was horrid enough, but check out the noir-heavy shot she had wanted to use.

mccain1.jpg

A Touch of Evil, much?

And seriously, the picture they ran deliberately makes him look ancient and, thanks to the prominent lumps in his face, ridden with melanomas. And the photographer admits that was no happy accident.

Newsbusters shows that The Atlantic knew all about her hardcore bias, but apparently she was just what they were looking for.

Meanwhile, it's actually difficult to find an Obama picture in which liberal photographers haven't managed to shoot him with a halo around his head.

Thanks to CJ.

Well Slap My Face and Call Me Susan: Wife of Atlantic's owner a huge donor to Obama.

From Vanderleun, who notes Obama campaign staffers may have discovered the key to beating Palin: writing, producing, and filming campy parodies of Les Miserables.

As Fark says: You're doing it wrong.

PS, Obama's staffers are, um, not diverse. I haven't seen so many white people outside a KKK White Pride Olympics. (The KKK White Pride Olympics consists of four sports: golf, lacrosse, yacht racing, and Greco-Roman wife-beating.)

Palinized Conserevatives "Far More" Enthusiastic Than in 2004?
— Ace

The Night of the Living Dead, liberals and media analysts (but I repeat myself) said as tens of thousands of conservative voters they didn't even know existed poured into rural and suburban voting places to cast votes for Bush in 2004. Kerry had thought, based on polls and likely GOTV models, he'd win Ohio. It was not to be. In fact, in the end, it wasn't even especially close.

Time for a Dawn of the Dead sequel? And bear in mind, Dawn of the Dead was better than the original.

Canada Free Press writes of a "poll" of conservative enthusiasm, but the thing is, it's conducted by an advocacy organization (Grassfire.org) and the high number of people "polled" -- 16,000 -- makes me strongly suspect (well-nigh conclude, actually) that this isn't really a random poll, but a survey of the self-selected members of grassfire.org. So the actual results are not really remotely scientific.

However, if its own members are very enthused, it's a pretty good (if not rigorous) proxy for the likely enthusiasm of the Conservative Zombie Hordes needed to flood into polling booths on election day. Grassfire.org, after all, is all about reflecting that demographic.

Actually, it's largely about fighting amnesty and urging security first, so if this somewhat-hostile organization's membership is enthusiastic, it bodes well for McCain-Palin. Turning out the base at 2004 levels -- or better -- is a necessary but not sufficient precondition for a Republican victory.

Because James Brown's roadies are putting the cape on me and telling me I can't do any more show.

But honestly, I sort of need to get away from the computer.
