— Open Blog Sorry itÂ’s lateÂ…got ‘puter problems. Or is it pooter problems? Is there a difference? ThatÂ’s the last time I ever buy a pc from this company. I was promised a superior gaming experience but instead it seems to spend most of its time trying to take over various satellites and getting into pointless snits with DoD computers about who really controls what. Meanwhile I canÂ’t ever even get in a decent session of “Gears of War.” Plus it wonÂ’t let me leave the house anymore.
Nothing newsy, so as usual pretty much anything is fair game, particularly if it didnÂ’t get picked up by todayÂ’s earlier posts and youÂ’re in a sharing mood.
HereÂ’s a little something though: Time Magazine (via CNN) has provided us with their list of Top Ten List of Disastrous Letterman Interviews. At least in their opinion. Link has vids of all the interviews, but itÂ’s in that annoying slideshow format where you canÂ’t jump directly to one but have to click through to get there. The infamous clip of Andy Kaufman getting slapped by the pro wrestler is included.
So maybe something to keep you company as you patch and repair your inflatable companion tonight. I mean, after all, sheÂ’s done so much for you so maybe itÂ’s time to show her a little tlc for once.

— Gabriel Malor This sounds like a bundle of fun:
For the rest of the month, the White House agenda will focus on addressing the housing crisis, cleaning up the banking mess and laying the groundwork for reform of the health care system and entitlement programs like Medicare.
Wasn't there a war on or something? The President's minders won't let that get in the way of the campaign, though. He's taking his first trip to the west coast this week because "White House aides say they believe Obama himself is their best salesman on the big agenda items coming." Anything to keep him out of the big chair, right?

— Gabriel Malor GM and Chrysler face a Tuesday deadline for presenting a restructuring plan to the Treasury Department under the terms of the loans we (the taxpayer) already gave them. So, of course, yesterday the UAW chose to walk out of negotiations with GM about adjusting its pension regime.
Now GM is expected to tell Treasury that it needs another bailout like the last one or government debtor-in-possession financing for bankruptcy restructuring.
Treasury Department officials believe GM needs at least $5 billion more in loans to keep operating beyond the first quarter, according to the report. While filing for bankruptcy may be the best way for GM to cut costs and revitalize, if the company chooses that option it may include politically unpalatable moves to sell off assets and cut more jobs.
$5 billion to finish out the first quarter and then what?
In the meantime, Speaker Pelosi and Barney Frank sent the ailing Big Two automakers a letter demanding that they commit to expensive "green" reforms. Here is their list of priorities: "tougher fuel economy requirements set by California and other states, protect workers' health and pension benefits and assure taxpayers of a return on their loan." One of these is not like the others.

— Purple Avenger A story related in a comment (which may or may not be true, but it reads well and sounds plausible) over at Crittenden's joint really struck me as sweet. I'm not going to excerpt anything and spoil it.

— Gabriel Malor Yesterday the judges further limited the rejected absentee ballots that will be included in the recount. That number had been trimmed to 4,800 over a week ago and is reduced now to an estimated 3,500.
The judges ruled that they won't count any ballots that don't comply with state law. The order places the burden on the Coleman team to establish both that a ballot was legally cast and that it was improperly rejected before it will be included in the recount total.
Democracy at work:
"We are obviously very pleased with the court's decision ... there's a large chunk of ballots that have now been taken out of play," said Franken lawyer Marc Elias.
The Coleman folks say that they are still confident they can overtake Franken's 225-vote lead.

— Uncle Jimbo I have a new favorite t-shirt. If you don't get the reference, the chimp who designed Obama's HOPE socialist posters got famous for stencils with Andre the Giant's image saying OBEY. He just got arrested for graffiti, HEH. The other reference should be mandatory. I dabbled in pacifism myself, actually still do.

— Gabriel Malor "Softened", supposedly, because it also gives discretion to waive the protectionist provision if a waiver is in the "public interest" or if necessary to preserve international trade agreements.
The dispute has put Obama in a difficult position. While campaigning last year, he raised questions whether U.S. trade agreements contained sufficient protection for labor and environmental standards. He has warned recently, however, about antagonizing trading partners and has made clear that passage of the overall stimulus bill is needed urgently to mend the U.S. economy. In several television interviews last week, he said the stimulus package should not include protectionist language that could trigger a trade war. But now that it does, he is likely to sign it anyway. The measures appear, however, to give the administration discretion about how to implement spending decisions, given the requirement of meeting trade obligations.
The EU, Canada, and Mexico have trade deals that allow their companies to bid on U.S. government contracts with the exception of transportation and infrastructure projects. So everything is awesome, right!
Thanks to Dave in Texas.

— Open Blog and in Saudi Arabia that means putting them in a sack and beating them like pinatas.
King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia has sacked two powerful religious officials in a wide ranging shake-up of the cabinet and other government posts. One of the dismissed men was the head of the controversial religious police force. The other was the country's most senior judge.
...
The sacked head judge, Sheikh Salih Ibn al-Luhaydan, caused controversy last September when he said it was permissible to kill the owners of satellite TV channels which broadcast immoral programmes.
Sheikh Salih Ibn al-Luhaydan said some "evil" entertainment programmes aired by the channels promoted debauchery.
Our correspondent says the sheikh may well be paying the price for airing his opinions.

— LauraW Remember this woman?

Yeah. Don't do that. It's not healthy to walk around angry all the time, or even just an hour a day. All these lefties that were on a daily freakout for eight years will be shivering wrecks when they get older.
They mistakenly thought that their constant fulminating and ranting was catharsis; it is the precise opposite. They've actually heaped a lot of stress and abuse upon their minds and bodies by engaging in this behavior.
We still have to make our living, we still have to make a pleasant life for our families, and that includes being a pleasant person to be around.
We here at AOSHQ, while overtly in the business of rage and hobo-killin', do care about you and your families. When you feel your blood pressure hitting the red line, stand down for a bit, collect yourself.
Go for a walk, read a book, visit someone you care about and talk about anything but politics.
