Shirley Jones In Playboy
— LauraW

Her husband is suggesting it. Ummm. Hrm.

"She's still drop-dead gorgeous, and at the age of 75, a natural beauty," Ingels told Page Six. "I'm her husband, and I think it would be sensational. Mature women are relevant."

Now, she doesn't look bad, for 75. Go to the link. She still cute. Granny-cute.

But you see that little peek of drapey wrinkly stuff under her chin?

Now imagine about five feet more of it. I think that's clear enough, don't you?

Need we go there? Do we have to get graphic about what happens to human beings as we age? Do we need to belabor the point in excruciating detail and in the crudest of terms?

I certainly hope so.

They'll have to do so much airbrushing she'll end up with a cartoon body anyway, so why bother.

Trump: Miss California On Gay Marriage? Yeah, She Agrees With Obama.
— DrewM

Donald Trump doing the job the American media won't.

Her answer was “the same answer that the president of the United States gave.”

Awesome.

And she keeps the crown.

Charlie Crist Is Running For US Senate
— DrewM

Oh joy.

Sen. John Cornyn, head of the National Republican Senatorial Committee, quickly endorsed Crist as "the best candidate in 2010 to ensure that we maintain the checks and balances that Floridians deserve in the United States Senate. "

The announcement, which had been expected, is also likely to stir up Florida politics as others scramble to replace the popular governor, who was considered a shoo-in had he sought a second term.

"Our country is facing the most profound public policy questions in our lifetime, questions relating to the economy, taxes, healthcare, the environment and national security," Crist said in a statement.

Crist said he intends to take to Washington his Florida approach, that "when we put people first and work together much can be accomplished."

Noticeably missing from his list of important questions is spending. That would be a bit tough to swallow coming from a guy who not only supported the stimulus but helped Obama sell it.

He also helped deliver Florida to McCain during the primaries which ensured McCain's eventual nomination.

Thankfully, Crist isn't the only candidate running. Former Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio is also in the race. His website is pretty basic at this point but you can check him out here.

Rubio is clearly the more conservative of the two (though that's not really a high bar to clear against Crist).

The fact that John "I need Arlen Specter" Cornyn is putting the weight of the RNSC behind Crist this early shows one important thing...the GOP leadership still doesn't get it.

Why are they even backing someone in a primary? This isn't a case of some Big Foot guy like Crist running against only token opposition from some local crank. This is a matter for Florida voters not people in Washington.

These "leaders" in Washington may wake up one day to find they don't have any followers. More crap like this and that day will be much sooner than later.

David Frum emails to say, "A Republican who holds no conservative values and works with Obama? My God, dreams do come true!"

Slublog sends along Rubino's video response to Crist's announcement. Short version...Bring it on. more...

Open Thread? [krakatoa]

Up way too late working and it looks like Genghis is derelict in his duties. Or he had an Epic Fail in his hobo-hunting and has been beaten down by a derelict.

Either way, here's a little sweet Open Thread imagery to calm the savage breast:

Pelosi Lies for Third Time on Torture
— Ace

Version 1: I knew nothing at all about waterboarding. So you can understand why I didn't object.

Version 2: Okay, maybe I was told something about waterboarding, but only as a hypothetical future technique. I was never told we'd already waterboarded Zubaydah. So you can understand why I didn't object.

Version 3: Okay, maybe I did know all about Zubaydah being waterboarded, but Jane Harman wrote a letter of protest which I could have co-signed but I didn't, because I needed to "respect appropriate channels." So you can understand why I didn't object.

Coming soon:

Version 4: Okay, maybe I personally took part in waterboarding Zubaydah, but I swear I only held his forehead back and didn't pour any of the water. So you can understand why I didn't object.

Does anyone remember the good old days when flagrant lies and ludicrous backpedaling by a Speaker of the House warranted serious media attention?

I do. I believe the period in question lasted from 1994 to 2006.

Allah Asks... "Has anyone asked yet why, if “torture” was such an epochal issue, Pelosi was sending staffers to CIA briefings in her place instead of going herself? "

Of course they haven't. But if, a hypothetical future interrogation technique called "asking the Speaker of the House a pointed question and a follow-up" were employed, I think the truth might start to emerge.

I strongly suspect the CIA and Pelosi worked something out -- she wanted plausible deniability, and the CIA, which frequently provides just that, granted it to her. They worked it out so that Nancy Pelosi would know which briefings it might be compromising for her to attend personally, so she sent her aide, who could always claim later "I failed to properly brief my superior."

But with Pelosi demanding investigations into anyone who approved of torture -- a class that includes herself -- the CIA is no longer interested in maintaining the fiction.

Oh... And among the dozens of ways Pelosi could have registered her objections -- she could have tossed the matter to her senior legal advisers, asking them to research whether these techniques were legal or not, rather than taking the White House Office of Legal Counsel's word for it (and then later claiming "I was assured it was legal, but I knew it was illegal all along. Secretly, in my heart."

She could have then sent the analysis to the CIA and the OLC, asking them to respond to their own analysis.

She didn't.

She sent a staffer so she could actually get a full and complete briefing, but would later on be able to claim "I didn't attend that meeting," and of course demand the heads of anyone who okayed waterboarding. Except for herself.

Hey, she wasn't even there, man.

Bob Graham Claims CIA Did Not Mention Waterboarding in Pelosi Briefing
— Ace

Okay, dude.

Graham said: “I do not have any recollection of being briefed on waterboarding or other forms of extraordinary interrogation techniques, or Abu Zubaydah being subjected to them,” Graham told me by phone moments ago, in a reference to the terror suspect who had been repeatedly waterboarded the month before.

Graham is the only other Dem aside from Pelosi to get briefed in 2002, so they are both in effect asserting that no Dem was briefed on EITs that year. The date of the next briefing was in February 2003.

Note he's claiming that not only was waterboarding unmentioned, but so were other sorts of EITs, including, of course, such shockers as "the belly slap." This is a lie, unless the CIA is simply inventing its minutes of this briefing wholesale.

In addition, regarding that 2003 briefing? Democrats admit waterboarding was discussed there, and Nancy Pelosi's top aide attended:

A top aide to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi attended a CIA briefing in early 2003 in which it was made clear that waterboarding and other harsh techniques were being used in the interrogation of an alleged al-Qaeda operative, according to documents the CIA released to Congress on Thursday.

Pelosi has insisted that she was not directly briefed by Bush administration officials that the practice was being actively employed. But Michael Sheehy, a top Pelosi aide, was present for a classified briefing that included Rep. Jane Harman (D-Calif.), then the ranking minority member of the House intelligence committee, at which agency officials discussed the use of waterboarding on terrorism suspect Abu Zubaida.

A Democratic source acknowledged yesterday that it is almost certain that Pelosi would have learned about the use of waterboarding from Sheehy. Pelosi herself acknowledged in a December 2007 statement that she was aware that Harman had learned of the waterboarding and had objected in a letter to the CIAÂ’s top counsel.

Pelosi may have intentionally avoided attending this briefing personally, sending instead her aide, when she was apprised of the topic. That way, she gets to pretend later she didn't know about it.

Thanks to AHFF Geoff.
