— Ace Supposedly it can word-parse smart enough to figure out what question you're asking and find and present the answer, rather than just providing you with a list of websites that mention the keywords.
1, I kinda don't believe them, and 2, this only saves a small amount of time as the human brain is pretty adept at finding the answer once an array of websites are presented to it.

— Open Blog So I guess we all went to a lottaÂ’ trouble over nothing this morning about Paul AllenÂ’s biggest toy. Somebody else had already converted the Powerpoint slideshow into a PDF and posted it online. Thanks to “poconojoe” for the original suggestion and “goy” for tech. wisdom along with also hunting down the link. Thanks to everyone else for all the other suggestions and offers of help as well. ItÂ’s up to you if it was worth all the effort.
A couple of other odds n’ ends on a fine spring Sunday evening”
This is kind of old, but since PeTA’s been popping up everywhere lately, “Jubal Anderson Early” sends along a CNN tale of PeTA’s efforts to convince the band “Pet Shop Boys” to rename the band the Rescue Shelter Boys. Ummm-kay. They refused the request by PeTA, but the most silly part of this already silly story is the following from the CNN article:
"West End Girls" is one of the many hits the group has had in its long career.”
IÂ’d list them all, but weÂ’re kindaÂ’ limited on space here. And by the wayÂ…has it ever occurred to anyone at PeTA that that their own organizationÂ’s acronym contains a derogatory (and perhaps even species-ist) term for our animal companions?
And one other, though I think it’s been covered elsewhere if not here. “Matt” sends along an article from The American Thinker which further links to an article at The Hill in which our fine friends at PeTA want to set up a temporary hog farm on the steps of the U.S. Capitol building. According to their statement:
”In a statement, PETA says it hopes to replicate the conditions that led to the spread of swine flu and convince Americans to become vegetarians.”“The potential exhibit would include three pigs, 3500 gallons of pig manure and urine and large fans. The group will also show undercover footage of hog farm conditions and distribute information on becoming a vegetarian.”
I thought the typical PeTA member was supposed to be something of a hipster (albeit a pale, undernourished and sortaÂ’ sickly hipster), but still skilled in the methods of irony-fu. Sadly, I guess not. Lack of protein perhaps.

— Ace Pulitzer them for this hard-hitting expose from AP:
Obamas take a walk, holding hands in the eveningWASHINGTON — The first couple took full advantage of the cool spring night.
After a date night out on Saturday evening, President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama decided to take a stroll when their motorcade arrived back at the White House. So they began walking on the driveway of the White House South Lawn while holding hands. First they passed the West Wing, then their childrenÂ’s swing set. They kept walking, swinging their hands together.
As the Obamas walked behind shrubbery and out of sight, the unscripted moment left reporters guessing where they were going. To the vegetable garden? The basketball court? No final word, but they eventually came back the same way from where they started, rounding out their 8-minute walk.
Pulse-pounding suspense -- it's like reading the movie Chinatown.
More at the link.
And if you think the "slobbering love affair" can get no worse, you obviously haven't seen Michelle Obama's new sex-kitten pictures.

The word you're looking for but not finding is "Wow."
Nothin' But Rim: The press attempts to show Obama as an ordinary guy who is nevertheless extraordnarily gifted in all possible ways, but Obama blows the shot.
Oh, well. In a way it's comforting he's not perfect. That's why they gave Superman his vulnerability to Kryptonite, after all.

— Ace The National Enquirer reported this two or three weeks ago. AP's Johnny-on-the-Spot now, only now that Edwards actually confirms it himself.
That's some reportage. Writin' down an admission someone makes.
National Enquirer > AP. Plus, the AP actually lifts it from a local paper.
Failed presidential candidate John Edwards, whose political action committee paid more than $100,000 to his mistress' company, acknowledged Sunday that federal investigators were looking into how he handled his campaign funds. But the former North Carolina senator said he was confident no money was used improperly.
...
His political action committee paid Hunter's firm $100,000 for video production in a four-month span in 2006, and then paid an additional $14,086.50 on April 1, 2007. At the time, the PAC only had $7,932.95 in cash on hand, according to records filed with the Federal Election Commission.
That same day, according to the records, Edwards' presidential campaign paid the PAC $14,034.61 for what is listed as a "furniture purchase."
The Deceiver notes that Edwards treats his mistresses like furniture. Mattresses, I suppose.
More serious than any of this is the role Edwards confidant and financial backer Fred Barron played -- he paid Reille Hunter's living expenses during the hush-up phase (and may have paid money to Edwards aid Andrew Young, who was pretending to have had the affair with Rielle, rather than his boss).
It sure looks like an unreported contribution to the Edwards campaign. An in-kind donation in the form of hush-money.
Barron's explanation for this is that he just wanted to help some good kids out.
Of course, Fred Barron's dead now, so cross examining him on that claim will be difficult.
Thanks to EdwardR and XBradTC.

— Gabriel Malor Judge Sonia Sotomayor of the Second Circuit Court of Appeals is one of the likely candidates to replace Justice Souter. Chuck Schumer has been pushing her name and she meets Obama's stated interest in increasing diversity on the bench (she's Hispanic).
So, what kind of judge is she? Morgen, of the blog Verum Serum, found this:
"All of the legal defense funds out there-- they're looking for people with court of appeals experience. Because court of appeals is where policy is made. And I know, I know this is on tape and I should never say that because we don't make law. [Laughs] I know. I know. [Laughter] I'm not promoting it, I'm not advocating it, I'm...y'know."
Check out that hand wave at the end. She walks it back, sure, but there's no question what she believes. She thinks she gets to make policy and she knows that she's not supposed to say that out loud. This is what Obama is looking for on the bench.
Incidentally: This is probably a good time for a discussion about timing. Morgen, who found this, had a tough choice. He's found something juicy, but it may be even better to sit on it for a while (like, say, until Obama nominates Sotomayor for something). On the other hand, if he sits on it, someone else may find it and break it first.
There's a limit on the effectiveness of stuff like this. If the Reverend Wright stuff had come to light in October, the last election may have turned out differently. But by the time the election rolled around everybody had adapted to it, justified it in their own minds, and moved on. It was "old news" and not worth getting upset about.
Of course, once people started scrutinizing Wright it all came out. It was over and done. That's what news media (and blogs) are about. Getting the story and sharing it. The same can be true for Obama's likely choices to replace Souter.
Everybody's looking at Sotomayor, Kagan, and Wood now, but whoever Obama wants probably won't be nominated until mid-June at the earliest. The real deadline isn't until October, when the Court's next term begins, although the President is going to want to give his choice an opportunity to get settled and hire clerks. All this attention now might give the moderate Democrats, who might have a problem with Judge "I Make Policy" Sotomayor or the other likely nominees, time to adapt.
I'm not criticising Morgen. I'm just saying, sometimes it's a balancing act. Just like the legacy media, bloggers are advocates. We want certain outcomes and in this case Morgen and I want Obama to end up with pie on his face before the Souter seat is filled. But we also want to break big stories and scoop the rest of the blogs.

— Open Blog Pardon the absence of last nightÂ’s open thread. Looks like you overnight morons made yourself at home in DrewMÂ’s Perez Hilton post. Thanks for not infesting his Jack Kemp post and ruining the carpet. Anyway, hereÂ’s a sandbox to play in until somebody else wakes up and posts something actually interesting.
The May Day protests last Friday were quite the flop, but as always with these things you can find something to really piss you off (so donÂ’t visit the link if you were planning on having a relaxing Sunday morning which didnÂ’t involve your blood boiling). I found this at Dori MonsonÂ’s blog when I woke up this morning. It involves a particular sign held by one of the uberdickheads peaceful and hate-free protesters.
Now for the bleg: “Poconojoe” sent in a powerpoint presentation regarding Paul Allen’s megayacht “The Octopus.” Anyone know how to convert this from a PPS file format into something that can actually be posted here? I suppose that means creating a new web page which can be linked to since we can’t really just post files themselves. Would anyone like to volunteer to do this? No huge hurry, just something really cool to look at on a Sunday morning. If you’d like to take a crack at it, please send me an e-mail in the tips address below and I’ll send you the file. Thanks.

— DrewM Awful news.
Jack Kemp, the ex-quarterback, congressman, one-time vice-presidential nominee and self-described "bleeding-heart conservative" died Saturday. His spokeswoman Bona Park and longtime friend and former campaign adviser Edwin J. Feulner confirmed that Kemp died after a lengthy illness.
Kemp had announced in January 2009 that he had been diagnosed with cancer. He said he was undergoing tests but gave no other detail.
Some might just remember Kemp from the disastrous '96 Dole-Kemp campaign but there was a point in the early 80's when he was a conservative star. The Kemp-Roth tax cut was the center piece of the Reagan economic program. He was the main congressional advocate of supply-side economics before supply-side was cool.
Feulner of the Heritage Foundation remembers his longtime friend.
“Jack was a ‘bleeding-heart conservative.’ He wanted to make it possible for every American to succeed and eagerly worked with people of all races, colors and creeds toward that end.“Across-the-board tax cuts and ‘enterprise zones’ for blighted neighborhoods are now common economic prescriptions – especially during these hard times. But to make these ideas respectable, Jack had to fight for them constantly during his years in Congress, as Housing and Urban Development secretary, as chairman of a national tax reform commission, and during his presidential and vice presidential campaigns.
“He won those fights, and millions benefited. The tax cuts that Jack helped engineer in the 1980s gave Americans unprecedented prosperity for decades. His commission also boldly proposed a national flat tax. Those policies also helped spread freedom around the world.
RIP, Mr. Kemp

— DrewM Obnoxious little shit Mario Lavandeira (aka Perez Hilton) is trying to stifle debate (what a surprise) by having Youtube remove an ad from a pro-marriage group that includes a few seconds of his tantrum insulting Miss California for having the temerity to defend a definition of marriage which is only about 5,000 years old (+/-).
Patterico has had enough of these fools who don't understand the concept of fair use in a free society and uploaded the ad to his Youtube account.
If Hilton sends me a DMCA takedown notice, I’m going to fight it — and I may sue him. I have never seen a clearer example of fair use in my life.
Check out his post to see why the use of Lavandeira's words clearly falls under the umbrella of fair use.
Nice. Very nice.
You know what this post needs? A Miss California in a bikini picture. more...
